Tilly Posted July 9, 2007 Share Posted July 9, 2007 Lately we have noticed our GSD is drinking a lot of water and has strong smelling urine ... my brother thinks it smells salty. The urine test has shown no sign of infection. We have another appointment later in the week but has anyone got any ideas what is causing this? The problem is our dog is working most days so I haven't been able to get him to the vet just yet. I have taken a sample of urine to the vet for testing and they have ruled out an infection. Given that we lost our rottie on the 18th of June ... our GSD has just started to return to "normal" ... in fact he is even being a bit naughty by stealing items (such as opening the back door and steal a new shoe and taking other items from the garage) and hiding them in the garden. He has a healthy appetite and appears to be normal in every way. What tests are required to check his kidneys? Does it require a urine sample or is there more involved?
