laffi
I am slowly discovering the training world and would like to hear more personal opinions about the target sticks. Are you using them? How useful are they? When do you use them/ they work the best?
Arya
I have used a target stick to train tricks like spinning with my dog. I know its also supposed to be good for teaching stuff like marching. I personally found that the dog targets my hand easily so don't really use a stick much for her. HOWEVER, I know some trainers love them and also, I am using it for my cat where it has worked brilliantly. I notice the vetshed where you can online order stuff has some nice retractable target sticks if you don't want to make your own. I think you'll find target sticks are mainly used for tricks, doggy dancing. But others may know more. In agility for instance?
leopuppy04
Use it and love it - Shall I add that to your list Laffi ! I love it for teaching a whole array of tricks.... although - it was useful until K got it one day when I was at work and CHEWED it!!! Arya is right though - the hand works well - it is good for agility too ;)

Even when I try just a little harder they give me back so much more it's just too encouraging. Nothing else works out with such high benefits. squeak
If you want to try out a target stick without spending too much money, try the sparkly wands from the $2 shops - fantastic
KitKat
Yup...target sticks are handy Another cheap way of doing them is get an old retractable car arial (sp?) and stick either a ping pong ball or hollow indoor golf ball/cat toy thingy on it

TigerJack
The Callicoma Kelpie website here sells them. They are fold up like the tent poles with an elastic bungee cord through the centre. Very light and very purple. Jo
