BC
Does anyone else have this problem. Occasionally my BC will not sit/drop etc on certain parts of a ground and it's getting a bit frustrating. I know he hates being anywhere near other dogs poo, which is understandable, but sometimes I really need to enforce the sit command, which I should not have to do, as he looks at the ground and then looks at me realkly worried as if to say "I dont like that bit mum". I can never see anything there and have no idea what is on the ground that he does not want anything to do with. Occasionally in heel work he also does a quick step to the side aswell and then jumps back in close to me as if there is something he is stepping around ?? How do I get around this as when trailling you are always on differnt ground obviously, and I dont want him to continue doing this in the ring. J...
Occasionally in heel work he also does a quick step to the side aswell and then jumps back in close to me as if there is something he is stepping around ?? Darcy does the same thing, mostly in off-lead heeling but also on-lead. In our case I know whats causing it though - our training ground is quite often left too long and then mowed, creating big wind rows of grass. She's not a fan - I think sometimes the grass flicks around your feet and if its windy I'd say she occasionally cops a face-full of grass
Sayreovi
Occasionally in heel work he also does a quick step to the side aswell and then jumps back in close to me as if there is something he is stepping around ?? One of mine does this as well. He will be heeling close and perfect then go wide while looking down and then come back and heel again. Will not sit or drop in that spot either. Ive tried holding him close with the lead, but he will either kick up a fuss and behave like a bronco or just become a "dead" dog when we get close. There seem to be a few spots everywhere we go, ive gotten out my other dog who will sniff and pee on anything remotely weird and he doesnt smell anything interesting. BC
Occasionally in heel work he also does a quick step to the side aswell and then jumps back in close to me as if there is something he is stepping around ?? Will not sit or drop in that spot either. Ive tried holding him close with the lead, but he will either kick up a fuss and behave like a bronco :D or just become a "dead" dog when we get close. OMG, same here. What is going on If I try and push the issue mine become a bit of a Bronco too or he walks backwards and then drops. I now discretely just move to the side a bit if I know there is something there he hates, but the heeling gets me
Staranais
What a weird problem! On the bright side, if your dog's nose is really that sensitive, he might be a great candidate for tracking. When reading your post I wondered if your dog is acting scared or tense when he does this, or whether he look perfectly relaxed but just does not want to sit there for some reason. Because if it's the second, I wonder if his heel just needs to be proofed futher (by whatever method you normally use to proof an exercise)? skip
Sorry I have no ideas to change the behaviour cause mine to it too! They skip round an invisible patch and return to me. Some days they do it more so. Mostly at obedience training. Although one dog was prancing off and not wanting to go thru the weave poles the other day. Acting really undecided? So I did something else and changed dogs. But I was a bit disappointed thinking maybe he doesn't enjoy it all of a sudden. When the next dog started smelling near the poles I realised there was a squashed poo there! So now I check more carefully. How about my dogs won't go thru the tunnel when at agility training cause it has a little bit of water in it? And they do sits in the wet with their bums about 1/2 cm off the ground if they can. ???
