How Often Do You Worm Your Dogs?

Just wondering how often people worm their dogs here.

I'm talking about all types of worms.

I have created the poll after reading this website.

I worm every 3 months for intestinal worms and yearly for heartworm

I only use flea treatment IF there are fleas present. Can't remember last time.

I only worm adults when worms present in a faeces test. Seldom. Pups wormed to 6mths.

Vaccinate to the 12 months booster only.

Need another option, 6 -12mths at most which is what I do. Personally I am not a fan of pumping my dogs full of chemicals for no need. I tend to worm the pups quite reguarly until at least 18mths but then drop it down to about every 12mths.

So you would give a 3 monthly wormer every 12 months approx?

We use advocate, monthly pipette thingy which does fleas & worms.

Once a month with Sentinel Spectrum as it covers the dogs for heartworm.

Cowanbree is in NZ where they do not have heartworm. When we lived there we used to worm every three months.

Dronsit for tape & Hydatids worms every 3 months because I feed some meat raw. Hydatids & Sheep measels are still around and Hydatids can kill you, dogs are intermediate hosts.

I went to a talk recently from a vet who suggested what Pebbles said - for adult dogs, pups need their regular worming.

I don't worm every three months but do a couple of times a year. My dog ate some cow pat on a track so I have just wormed my dogs.

I also don't use flea treatment unless my dogs scratch.

I do vaccinate annually, I don't have a choice due to training clubs etc but will often delay a month or so after the due date.

I worm my dogs every month , the life cycle of many worms vary greatly the round worm life cycle is 28-35 days round worms in severe cases in children can cause retinal problems which I worry about , hookworm life cycle is from 15-18 days and tape worm 14-21 days , Im not sure that 3 monthly worming is sufficient these days , but the drontal packet says 3 monthly is fine , so many conflicting opinions .

With rescues coming and going I feel I have no choice but to continually worm regularly. If there weren't any rescues I would only worm every 6 months or so.

I worm once every 3 months and we use the daily heartworm tablets
