Show Grooming For Boxer

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm a newbie here and have spent most of my saturday reading through all the very interesting stuff on this forum, often getting side tracked and forgetting where I started. This is a fantasic site loaded with info and very helpful people

I'm hoping to be lucky enough to get a boxer puppy soon and I am looking to show him/her.

One thing I didn't know (among other things  ) is that boxers have to be clipped for the show ring? Can anyone please tell me what exactly needs to be clipped?

Also, are their whites still chalked, I did hear that this was no longer allowed?

Apart from general bathing and grooming is there anything else I should know about?

I know I can ask the breeder when I come to buy my special baby, but at the moment I am busy getting as much info as I can.

Thank you

Hi & welcome

we normally

shave the face whiskers

trim the hair along the loin area

trim under the tail area

shave the underbelly to tidy up lose areas

you can still chalk, just make sure you crush all lose/excess chalk out before going in the ring

a quick buff over before going in the ring helps as well

otehr things you should know -

to show you will need to be a member of your state CC

the puppy will need to be on Main Register

You need to make sure you buy from a good reputable breeder who would be able to help you along the way & guide you as well in chosing the best puppy to suit you & what you want to do.

If you have never owned a Boxer before also get your breeder to help you out with training, diet etc

Have fun.

Thanks bommy,

Thought it must be something simple like that as they are such neat and tidy looking dogs.

Yes, I understand about becoming a member of the state cc, as I used to show many years ago
