Sheep Available For Training

Recommended Posts

Any one wishing to use the sheep at Durack the week before the border Collie Club of Queensland Inc Trial the Week of 9th - 12th July.

Times by appointment only I am hoping to be there between 9am-12am mon-thursday I will be there on the friday but sheep can't be worked by dogs entered at the trial so will be a day off for them.

But if you are interested let me know and I can be there to unlock gates etc, I wont turn up on any day where no one is interested in going over so I will need to know if you are interested. Cost will be $10 a day

Tracey, would you encourage a dog to have some contact with sheep before trying out for HIC?

Candice, the rules say that the dog must have had some training & exposure to livestock before being allowed to compete in a HIC  .

Tracey, Id be interested in coming along (as you know, I'll take just about any chance I can get :rofl: ). I can fit in with other people, so I'll talk to you about it next time I see you (Im off camping tomorrow for a week, I'll see you when I get back  ).

Actually I was thinking about this again & the rules actually say that the dog must have had training & exposure to livestock before it being entered in any tests & trials. HIC is a certificate rather than a test, I wonder if it applies to it or only from HT upwards? Tracey will probably be able tell us.

Not Tracy but my friend here is a Herding judge and I am pretty sure from our discussions that the dogs must have had prior exposure before entering an instinct certificate - like I said I could be wrong but that is what I thought.

Ness, yep that's what I thought too, but when I read it again last night I did wonder cos technically it's not a test or trial, that's why I asked.

Similary it says the dog must have had training - doesnt actually say its to be herding training, wonder if training the dog to bring your slippers would count? . (yeah yeah I know Im being a smart-arse - it's what I do best! :D  )

These was brought up in the rules review and the wording has been changed but yes Prior exposure and training on stock is a must before entering for HIC.
