Jules you can also try this

karma.jpg

open a photo(i pinched one of Karma sorry :D )

then make a copy, when the copy pops up click Ctrl+U (this should make the pic black and white). The to the copy add a mask (the little box with a dot in it on the layers)

select a brush and black paint and paint what you want shown in colour.

Simple

Freckles , i'm sort of attempting it now

when i pressed the ctl+u , it didn't automatically go black and white but brought up a box with hues, saturation etc, so i played around with those settings till it went black and white but obliviously (sp?) i still need to get the 'right' shade of black and white ..(im just doing it quickly atm, so i can understand what you mean:) )

now where you say 'black' paint, what does that actually mean? do i just use the brush tool and go click over the eyes with it to bring the colour out?

Do i need to do anything else to make them brighter (eyes) ? or do i leave it how it shows up?

thanks for your help ! it seems heaps easier than the way my husband has been showing me !!! :D

opps sorry forgot you have to still change the saturation setting. I simple slide the saturation level all the way left to take out all colour.

The black paint, see the two colour boxs on the left side of the pic, one black and one's white. Make sure the black box is on top and as you paint the picture the colour underneath will apear. If you are happy with the colour in your original picture that is how it will show up in the B/W pic

Thanks Freckles

I had it worked out, but i went to try it again and something has gone wrong with the settings, it looks different now (must have clicked on something else in the process)

I will try it again after, and if i have any more problems i will pm you, so i don't clutter up this thread too much LOL

very nice Vickie  merging 2 pics is a load of funny isn't it :D

Jules you must post your finished work once its done and asking question is not cluttering up this thread, it is how we all learn something new.

ok i will, it will probably be just karmas eyes, same as the one u did (unless i can find another easy pic to practice on at some stage) ;)

next question then LOL

what's an easy way to get rid of stuff on a image eg twigs, that are covering up a good view of a bird? or is that too difficult? :)

Thanks again

Did this for leopuppy04!

I won't even ask you how you did that?

:D Good, because I couldn't possibly tell you :) I applied so many filters & tools, I can't even remember which ones

Thats not how I did it with Leopups photos, I just cloned so much easier and quicker!

Here are the original photos:
