Trisven13
I had all my vegies etc chopped up ready for processing for tonight's food and the processor has died. Just for one night will it matter if I cook the vegies and stir them through the raw mince & heart? I figured that was better than nothing. Next question is that I will now need to buy a new implement for making dog food - suggestions please everyone!!!
Tibbiemax71
Wow, that's weird mine died on Friday!!! Well it didnt die completely, something went in the switch and it wouldn't turn off and only went "Flat out" even if I put it on a lower setting, mine was a Sunbeam that I got at Target, I only got it 3 months ago so took it back yesterday and they replaced it. I was very happy with it otherwise, it has a huge bowl and all other blades for grating, slicing etc, haven't tested the other blades out as I have only used mine to make the BARF They are on special for $107 instead of $119 at the moment, the special ends on Wednesday. J...
I have a food processor but it was a bit of a slow process given I do about a months raw at a time and freeze it, so I bought a breville 1200W juicer instead. Highly recommend it - so much quicker and easier Used to take me most of the afternoon with the food processor, my first lot of raw through the juicer took 90 mins from start to finish! Hazz
How long does it take to clean a juicer god I hope it's not an epidemic, I hope my processor doesn't die
Wyhldher
Don't know how many dogs you have, but my $45 Mistral Gourmet Wizard seems to do the trick for 1! I think I got it at BigW..
bark
I have a 2100 (small one for 2 people) Magimix processor which is very easy to clean and comes with different blades, a spatula and a case to store them in. It was around $360 3 years ago and it's a very good brand. It's still going strong and now I only use it for the dog once a week to cut up the vegetables. If you have a large dog or mutliple dogs you'd probably want to go for a bigger machine (there are 3 models) if you have the budget.
Jed
Cooking the veges and mushing them through the meat wont hurt at all. I bought a Kambrook combination blender/processor for about $70 - $80 a year or so ago, and it's great. I use the processor to basically mince the veges together, and it slashes everything up. Decent sized bowl, and easy to clean. I don't use the blender, as it needs too much liquid to make it go properly, and then the dogs' dinners are too watery. I add oil etc to the meat and mush mix at the end.

NaturallyWild
Cooking and then mushing will not be a problem - you will obviously loose some nutrition but not all. Remember they can get by without the "complete nutrition" in every single meal, it doesn't need to be like the commercial dog food. If you get stuck not being able to make the veggies edible by processing or juicing then just feed raw meaty bones, organ meat and other foods like fruit, eggs etc.
ashan
I am a newbie so this may sound silly and please tell me if i am doing the right thing but I just give my puppy frozen veg (obvilosly cooked and cooled). Appraently they have more nutrients this way as they are frozen on site rather than taking days to get to the store then to my house. My puppy hasn't had a problem as I have found one that is little cubes. He eats them all
Sayreovi
Not really, the best way too feed vegies is raw and pulped (sp?). Cut up frozen veggies have lost heaps of nutritional value through processing and cooking them loses even more. From what i can see people are saying cooking will do no harm as a short term solution but it isnt ideal, raw unprocessed food is best. If you want to learn more on BARF do a search through the forum you will come up with alot of topics
ashan
Thanks heaps for the usful info. I will make sure it is raw all the way now. It is 15 yrs since I had my last dog and only got this one 3 weeks ago. I am trying really hard to feed him all the right things. Will search for other posts now.
