Sheep Herding?

Recommended Posts

Regarding Eatons Hill I have Eric and Cath's e-mail and phone no. I have it on a flyer so I assume it's OK to post

[email protected]. (The flyer has a . after the com which is unusual!)

It's at the South Pine Sporting Complex which is on South Pine Rd, directly opposite Eatons Crossing Rd. I'm assuming they're using the dog training area which is fenced. It is the first area on the left when you enter the complex.

I'm thinking of going to have a look. I imagine herding would be more expensive than most dog sports considering you have to cart sheep around and I assume fairly time intensive with each dog.

Thanx Scarlet, you beat me, apparently you go around to the left past the dog agility section & its just on the other side of it. The only other thing I know is that it's run under the PADS club, so I think you have to become a member to be able to be involved (Im not definite on that, but that's what I was told, you'd best check with Eric).

Thanks MrsD & Scarlet

I think I know where it is... I might pop out on Tuesday night (is it every Tues night?) and have a sticky beak before I join & take a dog!

Yep as far as I know it's every Tues night Ane - if you want to check just send Eric an email or give him a quick call  .

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wanted to add some info about Eaton's Hill if anyone is interested and doesn't have the details.

Its held at Eaton's Hill "PADS" Ground off South Pine Road (you really can't miss it) every Tuesday night.

They do a rolling start from 4.30pm to 7.00pm and go right through to 9pm (provided there are people there).

The cost is $50.00 for your first night with Eric but you also have to join PADS (for insurance purposes) at a cost of $25/year.

That $25 covers your whole family (people & dogs) to participate in anything there (www.pads.org.au).

After your first night the cost is then $25 for the first dog and $15 for every other dog per week/visit.

It doesn't cost anything to go and look - I took my 2 year old BC last night and he did surprisingly well - I also took my 9 week old BC pup for socialisation and she enjoyed the smells (and eating sheep poop) which will be good for when she is old enough to start.

On a side note, if you are going to go (even if its just for a look) take a seat, jacket/beanie & maybe a flask of coffee because it gets COLD!

Eric and all the other people there are wonderful and very encouraging.

:D

Working Dog Lover,

What breeder is your pup from. I have two working kelpies and they are great to live with, I put manners on them at any early age. They are chalk and cheese when working as they are from different studs. I intend to trial both very shortly. They both saw sheep as soon as 8 weeks and then regularly. They are 9 & 10 months old and have had regular sheep exposure and training.

Have fun with your pup.
