Squishy
Guys, Just a quick question, do you notice that your dog seems to throw up more often then other breeds? My shih tzu seems to throw up every now and again and I notice that there's quite abit of fur when she does. Is this normal? My brother mentioned that his dog is the same and was wondering if this is a Shih Tzu thing or dogs with alot of fur. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. LENI
Leni hasnt done this but i have been todl by other shihtzu owners that this can happen. It was suggested that in the event this happens to give them a little parafin oil.
staffshih
Ive never had a problem with mine throwing up for no reason. What hair is your dog eating i would be concerned about. Is it her coat? If so could be a problem with flea's or a skin irritation.
Squishy
Leni - Thanks for your reply. I will look into this Paraffin oil and do a google search Staffshih - I have searched and searched for fleas and it's not a problem. Even the vet said she deosnt have fleas or skin irritations. As for the fur, I'm quite sure it's hers, we have another dog but she's more of a darker brown so i'm sure it's not the other dogs fur. Must be her coat, she seems to umm...lick herself abit..... LENI
Squishy, is she a pure shih tzu?
Squishy
Leni - Yes she's a pure bred Shih-Tzu. Comes fully equipped with a squished up face and underbite hehe Edited June 13, 2007 by Squishy
Shihzoo
All the shih tzu fosters I've had through here and and my own shih tzu - none have ever thrown up regularly. Only if they were sick. I am concerned about her licking herself so much though, that can be a sign of allergies... could be to a food?

Shihzoo - I thought that she was sick too....but the vet gave her a clean bill of health. She's playing, eating etc like normal. As for the allergies...now i'm thinking that that might be it. But i'm guessing it's normal as she licks "her nether regions" not anywhere else. Might have to double check. I'm guessing that she vomits about say 1-2 times a week. Hard to monitor it properly when i'm at work I'm only feeding her Pro Plan at the moment. Maybe i'll change back to Science Diet and se how we go. Leni - Are the pics for diagnostic purposes? haha

Poodle wrangler
No skin irritation, no fleas, then why is she eating her fur in quantities enough to make her vomit? Flea treated (Frontline, Advantix, Advantage etc.), wormed fortnightly, all the basics done? Boredom, or a nervous habit? My MIL ShihTzuX developed this as a habit, but chewed rather than ate the fur. Does she have chew toys or raw bones?

All basics have been carried out. Might be a boredom thing......not too sure. She's got chew toys. Might have to introduce raw bones now that she's older. staffshih
My frenchie X has allergies. She licks and licks her feet and with the face she has ghee she makes an awful noice. ATM we are doing the elimination process. She is currently on Anti inflams and antibiotic's we have to see how she goes with that and if she stops. If not then it comes down to her diet. For 8 weeks she has to be on a diet of Kangaroo or rabbit mince with either mash pumpkin of sweet potato, thats it. No dry food, no treats just a plain bland diet and see what that does. If that doesnt help then its............ 8 weeks confined to concrete only, no carpet no grass which is really going to kill her as she live's inside on the couch and the bed.
