laffi
Sat went to swimming, at the doggy pool! Sunday normal obed training and vegging (and Ed did a CCD run through which would have def been a pass)Mon 3.7km on grass and pavement mixed up Last night 4.6km on grass pavement and a gravelly sandy bike track The dogs paws are looking and feeling fine, and they are way fitter than I am! But I'm proud of myself for giving this a go, as I can be very very lazy lol Congrats and keep it up. If you want you can PM me and we can chat about the traning some more (my husband knows heaps about running and training) I am thinking about traning for a marathon again so we can become a distant long distance training buddies

But I'm proud of myself for giving this a go, as I can be very very lazy lol You should be proud of yourself, Shoemonster. Sounds like the training is coming along well - just upping the distance gradually is good for you and the dogs. We found, gradually upping the speed was good too, so that the dogs learn to gait comfortably at about 12 or 13kph (didn't work for Fergus, but he was comfortable at 10kph. Most training rides we would do about 6-8 km once we got that distance up. I took my Border Collies for a nice bike ride along a pretty foreshore track on Tuesday - it was a sunny day, but a bit sindy - they really enjoyed riding again, I think, and I did. So what you're doing is not only setting up for ET, but could become a nice way of keeping everyone in good condition.
shoemonster
Thanks The dogs seem pretty comfy as we increase it, and I'm not doing too bad, which has been the biggest surprise!
Ittybitty_
Id love to do ET with one of my Sheppies in particular. However, as he is used to sledding on the bike, I am really struggling to get him to 'slow down' and not pull.. He is fit, He can go 10km pulling me on the bike or scooter and doesnt get knocked up at all. But I hear they arent allowed to pull on the ET course?? shoemonster
No they arent allowed to pull! And they can't lag either, has to be by your side Man, it would be an easy 20km being pulled, I like that idea! lol
alanglen
Hi there, Was wondering how everybody was going?! Have my girl entered for GSD endurance on the 23rd of june, providing she doesn't come into season! She is very ready for the distance but I'm not so sure I'm ready for the ride in the early morning over the dirt and grass!! ha ha! I have looked after her very well, probably too well, and yet my knees are not liking the training! For those that pull, the best trick is to use a different collar or lead to that which encourages pulling (ie harness for pulling). The dogs work it out very quickly. Dogs need to compete on a flat collar only with a 2metre lead. Just wanted to see how everyone was going! Regards Alanglen
shoemonster
I've been showing all weekend, but will get back into the trainign tomorrow after my legs start working again!
DagBoy
Busy at a herding clinic on Saturday and at the BARK Frisbee thing yesterday, so I was planning to go out with Ebony today (since we have not been since last weekend). Instead I managed to find other things to do, so no training for us At this rate I might have to start getting up early to go in the mornings :D Cheers, SlackBoy

And they can't lag either, has to be by your sideMan, it would be an easy 20km being pulled, I like that idea! lol It depends on the judge Shoey. My dogs pulled the whole 20kms, the judge just didn't want them lagging or looking tired.
PAX
Forgot to say, When I did it I also was riding 20kms (without the dogs) five nights a week for my own fitness and I found it quite easy to do the ET, a lot of people did not and changed handlers. When I rode with the dogs I wasn't getting much fitness as it was quite slow riding and I was only doing 8kms sessions.

My dog also pulled - not the whole 20 km, but the 18, he actually run next to the bike on the last lap. The first 8km I dont think I peddaled once, and I pressed the breaks heaps of times. the danger is that the dog can overheat and fail.

alanglen
My girls passed their endurance trial yesterday! yeah! In hind sight I will train my next dog to 22 or 24 km. Maddie (labrador) had done a few 20km runs but found the last 2 km difficult with the gravel underfoot and the slight hill. She very much enjoyed the sprint home and overall had a great time. Our shephard also passed and she had had a lot less work and she really did it with style. Great day and had lots of fun, would be great to have them more often! Also the team came in several minutes under time with lots of variation in speed, don't get too set on the 10km/hr! Have fun! We did! and will be back next year with the younger two dogs! Yarrowfell
We had the Canberra Endurance Test today and all 4 of our dogs passed: Ch Lukius Razin Mayhem ET – Dalmatian Ch Yarrowfell Gold Sovereign CCD ET CGC – Dalmatian Yarrowfell Déjà vu ET – Dalmatian Brialey Catwalk Queen ET - Beagle With the two today that makes over 20 Yarrrowfell Dalmatians with ET titles. To say I am pleased would be an understatement!! Edited June 24, 2007 by Yarrowfell
t(AD)pole
Well done to those who passed the test and those who are training for it. I would like to do it one day but I just need to get out the bike and teach Abbie to run along side me with a lead. I can do the 20kms fine and with a bit of training Abbie could too just gotta get motivated!
