It's also great for my golden retriever but it hardly works on my aussie shep. It really depends on the type of coat they have (soft and staight, cat like, would be the best I think). I've heard good things about the Furminator, but I now have a Mars Coat King thanks to Samadii here on DOL who was selling hers. And it's awesome for my dog's double coat. It really can depend on the breed and their fur type -- what sort of coat(s) are you thinking of using it on? The cats dont really shed, but they love to be brushed, am using a mars coat king on the dogs at the moment, but have been looking at the furminator site, WOW! do you really get that much of the undercoat out.. I use one and they are great, but I think they work best on labs, kelpies etc that are the longer hair length of the short hair breeds if that makes sense. They also work well on Malamutes and Huskies. I have no idea how it would go on a Wolfhound, but I would definately quickly try one first. See if a nice groomer would let you have a go. That is advice by a show handler friend whose breeder told him to do so....its tedious though, was commented other types just comb excess coat out! Have tried the pin brush, two of my guys - are fine, but the pup runs a mile when he sees it but handles the other brushes though, which are'nt doing a lot. This pup we have just rescued and he, naturally not used to brushing thinks Im the worst in the world for even attempting such an act and stresses out at this stage if I attempt to spend any longer than 2mins with him, and was wondering if the furminator would seem less invasive to him? or any other suggestions.. Gomez the Norfolk Posted May 25, 2007 Share Posted May 25, 2007 I just got one, $39 on Clipperworls - and it gets a lot of hair out, but I'm not sure I should be using it on Gomez's coat, he usually gets stripped, never clipped and has a double coat - It does get a lot of extra hair out.... but he's not crazy about it! It does strip the undercoat and you can be left with bald patches if you go over one spot too often. I only use it in summer 'cause he gets so hot. Its also good for the grey when she is molting Yeah I know what you mean. 1 of the cats is not bad but the other one spends most days shedding her coat. they were fine till they were desexed then their coats became thick and wavy and they now shed every where?
