Isabel964 Posted May 8, 2007 Share Posted May 8, 2007 OK, I love dogs. We all do. But I am not very good with them. I guess I treat the more like people than dogs and just confuse them. I have a kelpie and a Westie. The kelpie is a naturally obedient dog. I had Ausdogs out for one hour when she was young and they showed me how to get her to heel, sit, stay and Ijust practised those exercises for 10 minutes a day and she pretty much straight away could walk without a leash. I have enjoyed so many years with her, and she is just so obedient. She is amazing. My young Westie is 2. She too is just wonderful she is in fact so adorabel I could eat her all up. okok you know what I mean! LOL But she is willful and her recall is not so good. She has this big problem where she goes deaf and loses all hearing when I call her if she can see a bird, another dog or a bird. So anyway, I got the Karen Pryror Clicker training and its like magic. I swear, it is easy and so amazing. Yo have to experience it to believe it. I got a book and a DVD and clicker. I also got with the pack a set of quick hits - Brief laminated cards with about 10 things to teach on them in a few easy steps. Sit, come, find my keys, High Five... so much fun. My dogs love it. Its fun we have together. And they learn so fast. Jindi can not come fast enough! And she is learning to drop down on all fours. You have to see the dvd. She even shows a bit with a donkey that had been abused and rescused...and had issues. And she shoes a fish she trained too! If you think you are hopeless, if you think you're dog is too stupid - clicker training will make you feel so much better. Its awesome! I know may of you realise this, but if someone reads this, and get the clicker training stuff and it makes a positive difference to your life (nand that of your dog), then my post is very worthwhile! anthony mazzeri Posted July 28, 2007 Share Posted July 28, 2007 Hi, I'm picking up my new baby Cocker Spaniel next week and have been researching clicker training. It's been 14 years since I've had a puppy (my beautiful Weimaraner and best friend passed away two months ago at age 14.5, I miss you so much good friend), so I've basically forgotten everything I learned back then on how to train a pup. Clicker training wasn't around back then that I was aware of, so it's new to me. So I bought a couple of clicker training DVDs from Karen Pryor's http://clickertraining.com/ (you can buy them as downloadable videos if you want to watch them straight away instead of waiting for the DVDs in the mail) and I have to agree 1000% on how impressive the training method is just to watch. I am truly amazed by what I am seeing achieved on these videos using this method. The speed they learn, from 8 week old puppies to a 9 year old rescue, dogs of all breeds, sizes, age and experience is astonishing! And how happy they look wagging their tails like mad while they're training! As I mentioned, my new puppy Alfred hasn't arrived yet, but I already have my clicker all ready and waiting for his first training session (learning the clicker and his name) on his very first day home next week. So I don't have any direct experience with it yet, but will soon hopefully. If he learns only half as fast and enjoys his training half as much as the pups on the videos, I'll be more than happy! PS. For those who have new puppies like me, they have three puppy-specific DVDs/downloadable videos - Puppy Love, Clicker Puppy and Puppy Kindergarten. The last one is the best I think as it's like having your own personal trainer to show you what to do, training real pups step by step in real time from the first introductory click to more advanced like sit, down etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The dogs school I worked at back in Germany solely worked with clicker training and both of my dogs are trained with it. I bought most of my stuff back there (in german) but order new books at dogwise. They seem to be very reliable with the delivery. Here are another clicker page I really love: Clicker Solutions They even have a mailing list about clicker training. :D My doggies love to learn new tricks and are nice "service dogs" by now.
