Found it! It is called 'Tasty treats for demanding dogs' by Gregg R Gillespie, published 10 years ago. It really is a fantastic book if you can get a copy! I recently made some for the club to sell at our obedience trial and got some bone shaped cookie cutters - very cute!! Good luck!!

Hi Everyone! Would a pap make a good buddy for an acd?? I am thinking that one of these is my next dog, as I was wanting something small but smart so I can do obedience and agility - and after reading a bit about these guys, I think this will be the way to go! He does like small dogs and had a malt x as a buddy at one stage (was my friends dog that was staying here). What do you think?? DO breeders sell older dogs on main reg? or even ltd register would be fine, as my ACD is associate register, I need one on either main or ltd to be able to compete as Im in QLD! thanks!

ha ha! I got her from a couple that have just started breeding near Bundaberg. Their prefix is 'Alvic'. Lovely people and all their pups were lovely too! They show a bit, and have a lovely male there that is their stud prospect! As of today she is 7 1/2 months and 11.4 kg!!
-
very cute! Although I am addicted to ACD's I am very tempted to get a goldie or flat coat for my next dog! :D
-
I have a book that I picked up from an op shop for $2! Can't think of the name - I will have to go and have a look for it if you want to know, but its a book with tonnes of dog biscuit, muffin and mini bread recipes! The author has basically made a book of treats that could be used as a sole diet, but I just deleted the stuff I didn't want in it - like kelp - and made them for the club to sell at our obedience trial! The best part about them, they use preservative free ingredients and are all fir for human consumption!!
-
LBD I just had a look at their site - what a great idea!! I will be watching this thread closely as I am also interested in any feedback!

the knitting club... love it

ha ha funny stories! I dont know if this counts but heres mine! I went to the shopping centre the other night, and I wore my dog club jumper that has my name on it.... went into Gloria Jeans and they automatically knew my name - then realised it was on my jumper! Then went into one of those Millers type shops to get some work shirts and signed up for their club card and again she just entered my first name from my jumper! Good publicity or crazy dog lady????
-
ha ha yeah don't let those designer dog breeders hear you say that!! I am going to get her weighed for her heartworm tablet tomorrow so I will post her new weight! Yes I am aiming to do agility at the least with her. Not sure that I will trial obedience, as I also have a non pedigree but fairly pure (I think) red boy who hates obedience, and now that we have our ccd title Im not going to continue - he does however LOVE agility and I hope to trial him very soon!
-
ha ha thanks! can't feel ribs, she does look a bit thin in those pics but isn't actually! It is dinner time too! I think she is destined to be small forever

thanks Persephone, the pics may be a little dodgy, as I just went and got some then and she was way to excited to stand still so here goes anyway!!
-
Hi inevitablue! attached are two photos. She was about 10kg at 6 months, will take her to be weighed again during the week! She is fairly stocky but not overweight! I think I may end up with a minature! She is pedigree but was the runt and was always a little developmentally behind the others!
-
Hi Everyone, Just wondering if anyone can give me the average weight for a female ACD puppy at 6 months old. She is a small girl, and was the runt, so not expecting her to be too big, but just curious! Apparently her brother is about half her size again!
-
dont know if this can go here but here goes!! I was wondering if anyone on here is from Gladstone, as I am moving up there for work, and don't know a soul! Wondering what the obedience club there is like? And is it a very 'dog friendly' place? any info greatly appreciated Melissa

I know this has been done before on other threads but I just wanted to inform Puddles that a 'proper' hunting or pigging dog is not "trained to kill' anything. They are required to hold the pig or bail it up until the hunter shoots it or stabs it. A good hunting dog is not usually dog aggressive as it works with other dogs regularly and should be used to mixing with dogs outside it usual pack. These dogs are taken onto farms and properties that also have valuable livestock and there is no way the farmers would alow that if these dogs were killing or maiming their stock. Unfortunately there are a lot of bogan idiots who get themselves a 'pig dog' or 2 and like to play at being 'hunters'. It is those people who create the misconception that you have brought into. dobesrock - i realise this but unfortunately all the people that I seem to have come across are these bogan idiots you speak of! well, the ones around here are anyway!

thank goodness Honey is ok! Same cannot be said about my friends cattle dog who hasnt had the most pleasent start to life anyway. He is nearly three and was only JUST getting good with other dogs who had play dates with him. The other day my friend took them up the back to feed the ponies - as she always does, and he walked over to the fence where two MONSTER pigging dogs grabbed him through the fence and tried to drag him through the bigger holes in the dog wire the vet said that he had NEVER seen such injuries on a LIVE animal!! They pretty much had to reconstruct his whole throat and there were many times when it looked like he was not going to pull through he is on the mend but the next 10 days are critical! My friends hubby told the neighbours they had one week to get rid of them or he was going over with the gun! what do people expect when they TRAIN these dogs to KILL?!?! why are people so stupid

HELP! am wanting to do a trial in Laidley end August but am struggling to find anywhere to stay that is dog friendly! anyone assist??
-
I use malaseb and do leave it on... problem is it is also best done in cold water! I soap her up, then take her for a short walk, just up the street so she doesnt roll, then once I wash it off I cross tie her on the back of the ute in the sun as its nice and warm! I was also told not to towel dry her so I make sure I do it in the morning and on sunny days as she has such a thick coat adn takes half a day to dry off! Sometimes condition with aloveen, as it is meant to be good for sensitive skin, but I just love the smell

Susan Garrett Method Of Teaching Heeling
puddles posted a topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ok So I am going to get a book of course, but can someone tell me how I can reteach my dog to heel well using Susan Garrett methods. Does she use drive training? I am just trying to get my head around all this, as it is not something I am overly familiar with! Does clicker training come into this anywhere? Thanks!
