I love that Roxy is awesomely loveable towards humans and any dog/cat even chooks LOL! It surprises and impresses so many people. People always ask if she is aggressive and when i laugh a reply that shes quiet as a lamb everybody wants a pat and she just laps it up, most kneel to pat her and she puts one paw up and rests her head in their lap/knee LOL. Sucks them right in ! To change someones mind about a breed because your dog is such a great exampleof the good side of the breed is an awesome feeling!!! Makes you very proud :D ! She is just so subissive too, she lies down and rolls on her back so puppies can stand over her LOL. So i think its hilarious when little dogs rush up and their owners freak, and i can be like all "get that vicious dog away!" LOL, i don't but i could ! But i love the fact i can completely trust her with people and animals, her only problem is she can be over excited and jump around and get in the faces of other dogs but its something i'm aware of and keep an eye on. But i also love the fact when shes on the lead she can also be very ignorant of the reactions of other dogs, and has the ability to ignore an aggressive dog. Testament to her, me as her owner and trainer and her breeder

I just wanted to clarify, although i am not prejudice toward any one breed, i am cautious of any dog off lead as well as on, unless i have spoken with the owner. And even then still cautious, due to Roxys usual bouncy excitement as you can't expect any dog to like a bouncy unknown bully in their face LOL. We don't have any dog parks here or anywhere i have lived so i haven't had the experience of mulitple dogs offlead in one area. And i think i would be very cautious in that situation!! Usually i spot a stray dog on our walk before they get too close and i've always been able to send the dog on its way. On the topics of staffys, i have never had a problem with them and Roxy has gotten on well with all the staffys she has met. We were walking in the main street the other day and a gorgeous big brindle male staffy followed us all the way up the main street, they had a ball!! I had stopped to look at some kids clothes on a rack outside a shop and the two rough and tumbled (Roxy on lead) on the ground next to me. We even had a little crowd oohing and ahhing over them LOL. He was a beautiful dog, i could have taken him home!

I have a bully that shows absolutly no interest in another dog, except to play. We walk past yards where dogs are going off tap and she does either one of 2 things. Ignore or wag her tail and want to make friends LOL. I don't have predjudice on any breed, although i don't like dogs off leash, i still take into account the body language first. Most of the time i'm pretty confident there won't be an attack even if the dog is staturing up to us, due to Roxys indifference and i will usually tell the dog to "get" before it gets anywhere close and IMO 'most' dogs that stature up at a bit of a distance are putting up a bluff to see the other dogs reaction. I'm lucky we haven't had a dog rush at us with intent to attack yet. Although the SWF across the road the other day as we walked in our driveway snuck up onus and rushed us from behind poor Roxy shat herself and didn't know where to run and nearly tripped me over LOL, but the little dog ran back across the road as soon as she'd finished scaring us LOL. It does make me laugh though when we get little foxies/dashies/SWFs and chi's rush at us going off their head. Roxy would bounce all over them if they tried to attack, tiny tuff dogs on a dopey bouncing bully, i could just picture it

The lady who owns the paddock where i keep my horse has a border collie, which has full run of her house and she keeps shoes on her so not to scratch her nice polished wood floors. Looks hilarious!! But Tillie keeps them on perfectly! There is a brand name on the front, but can't think of it right now, and they look like fairly soft suedey type material that velcro around the leg.
-
Their 4yo went in kicking and hitting the 'attacking' dog off her older brother?!?! They are lucky it wasn't BOTH of their children hurt Silly, silly people! Hopefully they've learnt a valuable lesson. They are very lucky the situation wasn't any worse .

I asked the vet to do a prog test, but he said if she is in, she would need to be at the stud before the results got back in anyway, so he just said its probably better to just keep an eye on her or take her down and try, it'll either happen or it won't. But i have just kept an eye on her and it seems it wasn't a season as her swelling has gone down and the discharge has dried up and disappeared, so the anitbiotics have made a difference. I spoke with Roxys breeder he said hopefully with the infection cleared up, she might come into season in a few weeks. Bit disappointed, but oh well, what can ya do??? Fingers crossed for a season soon!
-
Took Roxy to the vet today, he is just as confused as we are. She hasn't got a temp, he did an ultrasound and said there was nothing on that to indicate anything. He said he could take a swab but by the time we got results back it would be too late and she would miss. So hes given he a high dose of antibiotics and has said to try mating her, it'll either happen or it won't, but you don't want miss out. So i will discuss this with Roxys breeders and see what they think.
-
I told my breeders she had the injection and they didn't say anything about waiting, and i asked the vet when she had it whether i should skip a season before mating but he said there was no reason not to I think i'll decide fully what to do after i see the vet tomorrow. The dog i have planned the mating with normally lives in QLD but is currently at Roxys breeders but unsure for how long, so i would be disappointed to miss out on him while he is there IYKWIM. Will let you know how she goes tomorrow

No, she is an only dog. In thought it could be just the start of her season, as she was very hormonal at the start which i thought was due to the Alixer from last season. But she is back to normal except for this whitish discharge. I'm waiting for it with fingers crossed to brown up and turn bloody by this afternoon ! I have squeezed in an appointment for her at the vets tomorrow, so hopefully we will figure this out and shes ready to be mated in a few days!!! I am able to use the dog i was talking about in my last thread (stud advice), so i'm dying for her to come in. Its around her due time too, thats why i first thought she was starting but the whitish discharge has me a bit confused .
-
It would be her 3rd, her last season she had to get the Aliver injection to abort. That was back in April. She is 2 1/2. There is no smell or anything.

Ok, so i came home from a funeral on the 2nd and Roxy was withdrawn, not eating and weirdly burying her chicken necks that i tried handfeeding her, she was a bit swollen with a clear discharge. I assumed she must be coming into season as she had been fine before i left 2 days before. I rang my breeders to let them know that she may be coming into season etc. Anyway we had to leave again on the 4th so my sister watched her, and she went back to being her usual self, we got back yesterday and swelling has gone down slightly and now the discharge is whitish. If it is a season its her 7th-8th day in. But i'm wondering if it is a season?? She has had no blood?? Has anyone had a bitch have this before? I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow for tests, so will know for sure whats going on, but i thought i'd just ask.

Cool, i need a dremmel too. I saw the ad for the pedi paws and said to OH thats what i need for Roxy but i wasn't paying the ridiculous price and i don't particularly want a talking collar tag I'm going to Bunning this weekend and i shall purchase a dremmel  .

Yeah i think its awesome!! The majority of his pack are pitbulls he has rescued from illegal fighting and it just goes to show what you put into the dog is what the dog will become and his dogs are truly excellent ambassadors for the APBT (I love Daddy too :D how can you not?!?!) He is honest in saying they are not a dog for everyone, but he also explains that with every breed as well. I just think it is so awesome how he shows people that its the owner that makes the dog and it works for all breeds. He opens a lot of peoples eyes. I love him and his pack and am a humungous fan

I have all my male dogs names picked out . I have: Tank Mowgli Ziggy Pancho Malakye (if i was ever gonna own a malalute or sibe, i would use this name )

Ooh nice dogs!! Ya can tell the black ones a staffy...look at her kooky staffy ears! Hope your red girl recovers quickly!!

How Do You Teach Appropriate Off Leash Behaviour
Roxy Lady replied to Roxy Lady's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Can understand what you're saying in a way, but to say that my dog doesn't need the interaction or socialisation is crazy. How am i meant to teach her how to behave around other dogs if she doesn't see them? Keeping her seperated from other dogs would probably only make her worse and more excitable. I am always aware of her and other dogs reactions around her, (ability to read a dogs body language is a big preventative!) and i know things can escalate very quickly, but i want a dog that is a well behaved social dog, just because shes a bully shouldn't make any difference, just means i need to be aware of whats going on around us, but so should anyone that has a dog off lead. She still needs to be taught manners IMO. With all this crap going on about off lead parks i'd have thought a thread about how to teach correct social doggie behaviour would be a good ideas for others with dogs wanting to go to off leash parks. I don't even live in an area with off leash parks but, there are times when i catch up with friends and their dogs and i want to let Roxy off to have a play but i know how excited she gets and don't, shes stuck to socialising on lead. I don't think theres anything wrong with wanting a dog that is well behaved off lead with other dogs. I plan on getting another pup sometime this year and will be able to do alot more in socialising and teaching them how to behave, when i have 2 of my own dogs. But i still think its very important that your dog knows how to behave off lead and around other dogs, what happens if accidently they slip a collar or are accidently let out of my yard. I'd prefer to know that my dog is half trained than not at all. -
After reading a few threads in the BSL section regarding off leash parks, i was wondering how do you teach your dog appropriate off leash play behaviour?? As an adult i have never let any of my dogs off leash because then at least i KNOW my dog is under my control....BUT i would like to know how you know your dog is ok to go to an offlead park or anywhere off lead for that matter or how to make sure they are ok to go anywhere off leash. Roxy is an only dog (bull terrier), she has no aggrssion for anything at all, but i don't allow her off lead with other dogs as i know she gets very excited and jumpy and this can be a turn off for other dogs. She is also very submissive but she does not really know how to back off or calm down. She always just wants to have a good run and play. Her routine would be to lay on her belly while other dog sniffs then when other dog lets her up she would get all excited and jump into the other dog and then want to zoomie and rough house. I have had her in the backyard with my BIL fat staffy and he just sat in his kennel while Roxy layed right in his doorway with her head halfway in his kennel, she got told off a few times, but it didn't really stop her, she was just more careful. I would also be scared that she'll get injured with too much rough and tumble play. How do you know what dogs to let your dogs play with and how do you know its all going to go well?? Shes is pretty well behaved on leash and has fairly good recall off leash, but i'm not sure if that really solves the problem?? Is it as easy as supervision and telling your dog off for bad behaviour and then leashing for continuous bad behaviour? How do you teach your dog, doggy manners/etiquette??

Can Cat Poo Make A Dog Sick?
Roxy Lady replied to Roxy Lady's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Weird. I have no idea whether she ate it or not. The vomit looks just like dried sand, i wonder why else she would eat sand?? I'm assuming thats what made her sick?? -
Can cat poo make a dog sick?? I think Roxy may have eaten catpoo with a fair bit of sand. Last Friday arvo i had a huge scare where i thought Roxy had been baited. She was shaking really badly, she had vomited about 8-10 times, and was freaking out and trying to hide. I had a vet on stand by as they weren't too worried about her as she was fully vaccinated, and he'd ruled out most baits and suggested just keep an eye on her. She was still crook the next day but by that night was back to her normal bouncy self. Since then i have found a bit of vomit which hadn't been washed away and it looks like sand?? Theonly reason i can think she may have eaten sand is if a cat had shat in the sandpit and she'd tried to eat it?? Has anyone elses dog ever eaten sand or catpoo and been sick from it??

Ok. I've got Roxy going well with her stacking etc. But am now having a problem with her grabbing at the kids whenever they're running or moving around. I've tried a few different things, yelling NO, growling at her and growling No, Pinning her to the ground and growling at her No, smacking and telling her No, getting the kids to yell No at her, ignoring her and going inside, leaving her outside! None of this works, after you yell at her she bolts around the yard like its all a big game, for some reason shes just not getting it! The other night, i was doing a bit of practise with her, and having a bit of play with fetching the ball, anway Lana went to run around the back Roxy ran after her and next thing Lanas just screaming and had a bruise straight away on her arm from where Roxy grabbed her. Its not in aggression, shes definitly playing. She was already bolting around the backyard by the time i got there and wouldn't come to me, i eventually got her over with a few stern Get Heres, and i smakced her about 5 times really hard on her rump while i had her pinned on the ground and was growling at her, and she still got up raced around stupid! Trust me it hurt me alot more than it hurt her to do that to her, and when i went around to the front, OH went off saying i should flog the crap outta her, look at the bruise etc etc. I explained i smacked her, it wasn't in aggression and what more could i do? Shes still a pup, (7 months) and IMO shes still learning, and that smacking her wasn't gonna help the problem but i really need something that is going to put a stop to this behaviour, everything i've tried isn't working and i don't know what else to do? I don't want to smack her at all, (afterwards i took her for a walk and she wouldn't even walk properly coz she crouched whenever i went near her ) Any Advice will be really really appreciated.

Supplements For Stronger Nails?
Roxy Lady replied to Roxy Lady's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Am pretty confident its not a nail clipping prob, i have a good trimmer, and it happens regardless who trims. I stopped trimming them for awhile thinking maybe that was the prob but they just split worse. I have no idea about the immune deficency, but will get vet to check. Her nails, (mainly on front paws) split right down the centre and right up to the skin, sometimes they bleed and the quick is exposed, othertimes when theres no bleeding and just a split, it seems as though there is another nail underneath growing in its place forcing the old one to split and break off. Will try the epsom salt and alpha keri oil, see how it goes. Thanks for the advice :D -

Supercoat dryfood and either chicken necks or wings. :D -
Roxys nails/claws are always splitting, and right back to the ends too. It doesn't worry her as much as it worries me, she still clowns around and whatever, they don't seem to cause her any pain. And i have absolutly what she'd be doing to cause them to split?? What can i do to make her nails a bit stronger, besides keeping them trimmed (even trimmed ones are splitting)??
-
Thanks guys, will check out the triangle! Yeah she is a Bull Terrier and i know they are all about themselves thats for sure I've just been doing basic obedience mainly to get her used to being around other dogs and just having some manners while on lead. I will be showing her early next year, and was using food treats to start with but wanted to get her used to stacking etc without the treat as she would look on the ground for more. With treats i know i have her attention, but without, she does what i say but doesn't really seem to be paying attention, off in her own little world .
