  1. To totally throw people off the track, has anyone considered a trailer?? :D I drive a Falcon with a Classic dog trailer behind and LOVE it. Tows well, simple to garage & move around. Camping? It's a kennel and storage space. Shows and trials? Attach crate rack, load with crates, dogs and go. I can leave the dogs locked away even in warm weather - no worries about heat or cold or rain for them. They have matteresses, doonas and water bowls and are totally comfy - in fact, they sleep in it when we're at home! Another bonus is that there's no dog hair in my car, so if I use it to go out or transport non-doggy passengers, I don't have to vacc first! Just an idea... edit for spelling
  2. Next run is the 30th - Staffy Club Racing Day. After that, if we get a group together we can do the 6th of November 9 - 10:30. Need to give Trevor 7 days notice so he closes the track and then call the day before. Cancelled if the weather is forecasted to be 30+. Sonia
  3. Tokey, It was good to meet you guys and Apex, too, but Gazellehound wasn't there today. Inshallah took those pix, and Robb took more (he had the pair of Salukis Saffie & Layla). Robb will post some and send a link to his FB page when he gets around to it later today (when he gets back from the Hound Club show). Sonia
  4. There's a gate off Tozer Road which is always open, and a gate off Park Road, which is open when the shooting club is open. You'll drive past the Park Road gate - if it's not open continue down to Tozer Road. You can see the track from Park Road, so you won't have any issues figuring it out - assuming you can find Park Road!! bahahhahaha edit cos eye carnt spel
  5. and mine will want to sniff butts, but not have theirs sniffed!!! Pfffty - doggy politics, huh!? edit because I can't "grammar"
  6. hehehe - and a 6am LEAVE THE HOUSE for me!! See you there!!
  7. That's my point... Adults being THERE does NOT always = constant & vigilant supervision... and honestly, from the description given in the media article, we can't tell an awful lot, can we? So it's a bit silly to make assumptions.
  8. I feed raw, sometimes known as BARF (Bones And Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food). Check out these sites: http://www.rawlearning.com/ http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ The book :Work Wonders - Feed your dog raw meaty bones: by Tom Lonsdale is an easy read and not expensive.
  9. clockwise from black & white dog: Zoom, Sally, Abby (red collar) & Tom My pack a few years ago (2004) consisted of 5 dogs: l-r Salukis Moss & Arella l-r Terriers Sally, Tom & Zoom At that stage we also had Jess the Kelpie - more than likely outside working sheep!! Pack now consists of Zoom, Tom, Moss, Arella & Meg (Jess's daughter and arch-enemy of Arella!). No pix of this lot together - would be bedlam! Abby lives with my m.i.l. and we lost Sally aged 16yrs 9 mths almost 3 months ago. Miss her like crazy! She was the matriarch and the pack dynamics have only just settled down again.
  10. I like these... just randoms, no reason, except they all denote some kind of strength. Dyna : DIGH-nah : greek "powerful" Magan : MAH-gen : teutonic "power" Taima : tah-EE-mah : native american "crash of thunder" Zeva : ZEE-vah : greek "sword" Try the "Zoope": http://www.zoope.com/about/about_names.html
  11. My old girl Sally would cock her leg to pee as entire bitches sometimes do, but she took it to extremes when we walked by lamp posts. She backed right on up in a "handstand". Mr Hafhafa refused to take her for walks!! Sally was also very demanding. She would demand to go out - a cross between a bark, squeal and shriek - and then to come in again. We just humoured her as she was old. But unfortunately before she left us for the Bridge, Tom our rescued JRT-X managed to learn this behaviour. He's been with us for 10 years, but only started the demanding business relatively recently (last few months that Sally was with us). Thanks v. much for that little legacy Sal!! Zoom used to "bury" his Kong under his blanket, in my bedding, in the clothes (clean or dirty!) and then take great delight in digging it out again. He rarely does it now since he's old & blind, but every now and then we hide it for him and he noses it out. Seems to give him a bit of pleasure.
  12. old geezers: Tenterfield Terrier (16), Jack Russell Terrier X (13-ish, rescue) teenagers: Saluki (9), Saluki (8) terrible threes: Kelpie (3) edit to add: that's their ages in brackets, not how many!! :D
  13. I have two small terriers (JRT & Tenterfield) living harmoniously with two Salukis. I don't leave my 16 yr old blind TT guy outside with the Salukis without supervison (because Saluki-zoomies could impact negatively on an old frail blind dog!!), but he can move them off the couch if he wants to get up there - no problems!! And the blind guy - his name is Zoomie!! ;) edit to add pix: Moss & Tom Moss & Sally (RIP) Zoomie Sonia
  14. Can't answer any of your questions, Ness, because I don't use any of those products that you're asking about.... BUT happy days are here again for you, huh!? Enjoy!!
  15. Oooh, yes!! I loved the Diggingest Dog too. Also "Go, Dog, Go!!" Also, the Harry books - Harry the Dirtiest Dog, Harry and Rose etc etc... Sonia
  16. Best wishes to Earl. I was pleased to meet him recently at Virginina and had hoped to see him again there soon. Hang in there. Sonia
  17. I don't think that's the ONLY thing breeders are concerned about, but it has certainly had a lot of press lately. With so many looking to cash in on popular DD and rare breeds, of course it's wise for breeders to protect their puppies from falling into "those" hands. And you can't always tell... some people are too good at lying. I don't for one second believe that Saffionaire was only concerned about this, but it's part of the whole deal. EVERY breeder worth their weight is concerned not only for this reason above, but all of what you said TheCoat - the entire LIFE of the puppy. I think you made a very provocative statement TheCoat.
  18. My Jack & Tenterfield vote for ANY!! They always try to steal kibble from any visitors we have. My Salukis vote for NONE - they don't see it as food, having never been fed it. I have offered it several times and they simply turn their heads away!!
  19. Dusty by Frank Dalby Davison a working dog roaming free in the bush has a hard life - need tissues for this one Great Working Dog Stories by Angela Goode & Mike Hayes a compilation of short stories about working dogs, some happy, some sad Dog Stories by James Herriot a compilation of his chapters about dogs made into short stories and for Saluki Lovers: Living with Infidels The Diary of a Saluki - A Hound's Tail by Karen Ibbotson written in the style of a diary, penned by "Stella" the Saluki, captured and enduring life with the infidels (her family) and their Kelb (Weimaraner)
  20. I have used Murray Bridge Boarding kennels a number of times. Very impressed with their set up and they catered to me - a very nervous first time boarding mummy!! The dogs were very relaxed when they came home and they never once baulked when I walked them into their kennels the next time around. Very happy with Wendy & Rick's service. They are both active in the dog show world with their Dallies & Griffons and judging. http://www.mbbk.com.au/
  21. So very very sorry for your loss. Fly free, Bracken. RIP
  22. There are no words bad enough to describe people like that, nor any words kind enough to say what the author of the letter did. Sleep peacefully, dear unknown dog.
  23. I don't think there'd be time. Plus, if they have an event booked, it will mean the track is closed to others for the morning. That's the feeling I got when Trevor (the lure operator) told us that we could book the track and he'd close it to others for the morning. He also said the track "closes" for racing because of summer after the last race for the season - which is on the 9th (this weekend) I think. I guess he means for the training greys. Sonia
