Red Cattle Dog Does Any One Know
tianakaesha replied to mgeyer's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would NOT reccomend a 17 year old dog to be put under anaesthetic to be desexed... then again, I am not a vet... -
The dog I am caring for at the moment has this pink oil stuff to go on top of the actual sores, and neocort to go on the shaved area, as well as tablets twice a day - not sure if the tablets are for the hot spots or not. He does have lots of skin problems (not to mention weight problems) so the allergy makes sense
-
Can someone give me information on the causes of Hot Spots? Do they strike some breeds more than others (I hear of them more in retrievers and labs - but I really have no idea) Thanks

Axel... my heart is with you... these tears are for you and your family... May Buddy find my Xander cat at the bridge and chase him as he did yours.. Sleep Sweetly Buddy.

Karen Pryor Clicker Training Seminar
tianakaesha replied to Axel's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'd be interested in doing all three courses - but am the same as the others - not accredited... but think it might help with the walking of the dogs/training them... -
All of the premium dog foods are guarenteed by the manufactuers (so I was told by a pet store person)- so you can return them for a full refund. Even though you are getting a refund, I would call their customer service line and just let them know what you think...

Karen Pryor Clicker Training Seminar

I'd be interested! Make sure when advertising that you explicitly say that KP will not be attending herself... or people might get confused. -
Karen, I just saw this now.. my thoughts are with you and your family. love and wishes, kristie

Mika is predominantly an inside dog and only has exposure to outside when she goes on our walks - but her itching is mainly, I think, due to the cats! Though she does react more when she touches grass as well. Thanks for all the help... the injection has done some good - she has not scratched for 24 hours! (almost)... the girl did not know what to do LOL
-
the barf patties are the billinghurst ones - and there is a thread on that from the other day...? I am not adding anything to them...

Actually, going to ask for this topic to be moved to Health/Nutrition... "Megaderm" (?) was one of the products recommended to put mika on, except the tablets are too big (according to vet) so I said we would do some research. She said "Cold Marine Fish Oil" 1 1/2 ml (for mika's body weight) daily for 12 weeks" as that is what the study she'd seen had recommended. Does anyone have hints on where to get this stuff? She said to also soak mika for 15 mins in aloveen shampoo... will have to get more as I have run out, but the conditioner I have will do for now - as well as the natural soap for sensitive dogs... If these tips and such do not help, then we are to either try Z/d ultra for 6 weeks exclusively - or to seek an allergy specialist to see if we can have a desenitising vaccine made for her... ????? Mika has had this since she was a puppy, but we were told that it could have just been the summer grasses (it is predominately on her bare belly)... but it could be anything either diet or contact... We were told (by another vet earlier on) that she might grow out of it - but as it has now gotten worse we have had her to the vet. anyways, now that I am rambling... any comments on the above is gladly recommended. Last night in desperation to cool her itching I resorted to the only thing I had - nappy rash cream! and it worked a treat LOL!! Pity it stunk (know that blobbet will not have THAT brand LOL!) Edited to add: Haven (or anyone else) what is the increased vit e for... I understand if you increase one thing, you increase something else, but I like being able to understand why
-
Mika has a constant itch. We thought maybe it was fleas initially, but we got rid of them, and so we changed her diet to natural (Barf Patties) Anyways, she's been chewing herself quite a bit recently so we went to the vet tonight... It seems she has some sort of allergy. She was given a steroid shot, and tablets to take, some ear drops for her ears (which are clean, but could be a bit better).. and some neocort cream for later if needed. vet thinks it is a contact allergy, but is not sure (could be food). we have a variety of things to try - but vet suggested increasing omega oils - fish oils and such, flax seed.. etc. has anyone had experience with things like this?
-
Jeanne, it was not one of his suppliers... it was a different store where I mentioned the dogs diets... Gilbert is doing so well on them (was never able to really keep weight on him on bickies) but he is filling out some more now And mika's coat is looking great (and is growing - though not sure if the diet has much to do with that)
-
The BARF patties I am referring to are linked with Dr Billinghurst. Mika and gilbert also get necks and bones as well... the patties also have chunks of chicken frames in them... The "Roll" is the name of the packaging... it is not a pet roll like the supermarket. There are twelve individual patties in each roll - and the food is raw with the veggies and the meat and bone contents. Thanks for the replies.
-
Can someone tell me if the BARF Patties you buy in the big rolls (12 to a roll) are a complete diet? a guy in the pet store yesterday told me that it needs to be supplimented as it does not contain everything... he suggested missing link. now I have no qualms giving Missing Link to gilbert - it's going to be good for him - but Mika is only 1... will the suppliments be detrimental to her?

Allergic Reaction Nightmare!

I was told never to use Drontal on my Siamese cats -
The course sounds really interesting and something I would one day love to look further at.. well done

http://www.paws4fun.org.au/club/index.html this is the latest version of their website. I visited a couple of weekends ago... and was really impressed. Mika is one next week and so we can join at the next intake but I am going to get heavily pregnant sooner LOL so Ally might have to take over LOL I loved the fun atmosphere and the comraderie and encouragement rather than competition between the members.

I am looking at going to paws 4 fun at their next intake..
-
I got mine ;)

I have been thinking of you today. Be brave and strong, your girl is free.
-
It certainly does belong here. sleep sweetly tyson.

black and blue ones for me please (did I ask for three or four?)

For a vet to debark, it must have written complaints from people, behaviourists recommendation, council reccomendations and all other methods tried previous.... or something like that. Jack is more up to date with that info...
