<Snot likes his Nyla bone ribbed, for extra pleasure> Hmmm that may have been out of order, Disorder!!!! Love the pic - he really is gorgeous My pups tend to like things on ropes that they can drag around.

Sorry I can't offer any advice but just wanted to say I hope all goes well. Scary for you both and very upsetting.

Yes as Jed said pups undergo stress changing homes. Something else that is good to try to help firm up his poos is mixing some cornflour in with his food. There will be heaps of different suggestions on the ideal diet for him

<if she grabs the lead, grab the back of her collar and yell "no" or "uh" at her in a very loud and intimidating voice. you need to do this like you really mean it and chewing on the lead is the worst thing in the world she can do.....this will also help establish your leadership.> Missymoo, just my opinion, but that seems a little extreme for a baby pup. If I did that to my bubs they'd end up fearing the lead. I like to keep it all positive and the lead a good experience.

<Ruby is in my sig. She is a cavalier and has a white muzzle and white/tan cheeks. I did discuss this with my breeder and she said the black should fill in within the next couple of weeks.> Aimee I would expect it to take longer than a couple of weeks.

Yes definitely look into the health testing of the parents. Mitral Valve Disease is a big worry in the breed. Are the parents checked by specialists? Be aware that because Cavaliers are cute and cuddly that many people cash in on them being easy to sell and breed just for the sake of pups to sell and not with any intention of maintaining or improving the breed. Ask lots of questions! Have the breeders been asking you questions? A good breeder will want to know their pups are going to good homes. I have never taken a deposit. I have spoken to people and sent photos etc before the pups were ready to see. Do the breeders show their dogs? How are the pups raised? If I was buying from someone I didn't know I would much prefer to go and meet them and their dogs to see how the dogs live and temperaments. This is a good site for info on what to look for when buying a Cavalier pup http://www.geocities.com/ozcavaliers2/index.htm

Aimee looking at her pics quite a bit of the black will fill in. She may end up with a tiny bit still pink at the top.

I don't buy any tinned foods. A good dry food is far better than any tinned. If you want to add something to make it more appealing to her use a tiny bit of mince. I'm talking smaller than a teaspoonful and squish the dry into it so she doesn't seperate it. I use human grade mince. Edited to add Cavalier babies only eat very small meals at that age.

Hi Aimee. I would keep her on the Advance for a while at least till she settles in well. If you chop and change with her food she will end up a picky eater. People quite often tell me that their new pup won't eat the food they were eating with the breeder. Remember at the breeders she probably had siblings to compete with at meal times and that does tend to make them eat better A healthy pup won't starve themself so put down her meal and if she doesn't eat it all pick it up after 15 minutes. Weetbix are good for people but not for pups when there is so much better food. I'd give the milk a miss too. She doesn't need it. Water is all she needs to drink. At her age I'd be feeding Advance puppy and maybe a tiny ball of mince mooshed through it so she can't just pick out the meat. The puppy food is balanced and she can grow quite well on that You can start to introduce other things such as chicken necks, pulped veggies, sardines, yogurt etc. You will get lots of advice on feeding! My dogs are never left outside when I'm not home. They are in the kitchen with toys and beds and are comfy and I know they can't get up to mischief!

Aimee just be careful about how the class is run. We've heard a few awful tales of puppy preschools! You have a very young and small pup and being rough housed by bigger pups will not help her socialisation. Some classes are run very well and the pups can get great benefits. A friend of mine holds classes and she is careful to try to take smaller ones together and she never allows it to get rough. Have fun!

<Where is the best place for her to sleep initially? We have a bed set up in the laundry but will she need to be closer to us in the first few weeks? I imagine she will cry alot when she first comes home. > Hi Aimee, Congratulations on your puppy! You must come in to the Cavalier thread and give us pics when you can  Yes the laundry is not ideal for sleeping a baby pup. I'd get a crate and snuggle her down in that. Ignore the cries. Where do you want her to end up sleeping? I have found that having a crate near my bed suits me with a pup. I can hear if they wake and need to go to the toilet and being close to me they don't feel so alone. Good luck!

My dobe girl had a similar operation after part of her gut telescoped after she was poisoned. She was very sore and sorry for quite some time. But then she also managed to get an infection of some sort with a snotty nose etc and she was depressed as her buddy died from the poison. It was probably weeks before she was back to okay but still quite depressed. That improved a lot with a the arrival of a friend for her.

<QUOTE (badboyz @ 4th Aug 2008 - 06:39 PM) Now I remember why I usually avoid the puppy forum! How rude to insult me and the very sad event that I and my babies experienced! Good luck whoever you are - you'll need it! Huh > CavNrott, Badboyz posted about 2 beagle pups they placed together that didn't end well.

She is a pretty whippet Mine love lemon grass.

Yes I am amazed at how many Labs end up at the pounds Lovely looking dogs and I know they can be wonderful but a lot of work goes in to help them be good citizens!

Have you had a Labrador before? I'm just thinking of Marley and imagining two......

<Rover went up stairs and came down carrying a 1.5kg weight in his mouth>

Yes I've had a potato go walk about too :D And the other night Ingrid came into bed with something in her mouth. It was a cake of soap. Mind you she is 6 years old so well past the puppy stage!
-
Yes another vote for Aloveen :D And we need to see a photo of your baby!
-
I've started pups at 12 weeks for as long as I can remember. I thought that was when you were supposed to
-
This might sound silly but have you tried putting Aerogard on so she won't like the taste and it may help curb the biting.
-
Yep talk to his breeder. Have a look at his papers and you will see he is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Does anyone know of any dogs who have had the three year vaccination and had a reaction? A friend recently had her boy done (I tried to talk her out of any vaccination as he is 7 and has been done every year). He started having seizures yesterday. He's at the vet today and they've taken blood so we are awaiting results.

Yes I've always brought mine home the evening of desexing. I keep them warm and crated and I think they are much more relaxed at home. Aren't animals amazing how they cope after an op?!
