Sorry I've no advice for you but I just wanted to send some good wishes for Fred. He looks a lovely, happy boy. Fingers crossed all goes well and he lives a long and happy life with you ;)

I don't have a bin. I put all kitchen rubbish into a bag in the sink and take it out each evening. That way I don't need to worry about the dogs getting into it and I don't have to clean a bin A rellies dogs got into her bin the other day and ate a chicken carcass, cooked rib bones and corn cobs so she is watching and worrying over them. They can be to quick to get into mischief! The last problem I had was my seven year old Cav eating a full bar of soap and she did get ill.

Dogs Eaten Corn Cobs And Chicken Bones
Gretel replied to Gretel's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thank you She is very worried. -
A rellie has just told me her dogs got into the bin yesterday and have eaten a chicken carcass (cooked remains), some cooked rib bones and one and a half corn cobs. They were fresh corn not frozen (not sure if that makes any difference). All are small dogs. She is watching them closely and is about to give them parafin oil. I know corn cobs are a particular concern. She is checking poos and wanted to know will she be able to see the cobs if they pass them? Any advice gratefully received!

Peibe_Baby many people on here feel very passionate about things and sometimes we can come across a little judgemental but it really is cause we feel so strongly about issues.... For a start you bought from a backyard breeder. Lucky for you they have offered to help out financially but people who know nothing about a breed and their health issues can do a lot of harm if they go into breeding. As you have found out You love your pup and you are getting the right treatment for him which is wonderful. From what I gather Sharpeis can be a bit of a handful so the recommendation to desex your boy is probably an excellent one. An entire male of many breeds can be rather dominant and a desexed boy makes a nicer pet. Some men do have major issues with desexing as they seem to look at it differently to woman Your boy looks a cutie - I hope he brings you lots of joy.

I have a spare copy of Give Your Dog a Bone if you want to buy it? Edited to add I can't find it I'm guessing I've lent it to someone and it's not come home.....

When I've had a dog here who needs to lose weight the dry food was always what I got rid of. I've had a few boarders over the years who needed to lose some weight. I wish I was as good at getting weight off me as I am getting weight off dogs I find feeding necks or wings and veggies soon gets them back into shape. Do you have a pic of your boy? There is a Cavalier thread in the General section too. We're quite a chatty bunch http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...p;#entry3644626

Please tell me your Cav doesn't weigh 15 kilos?! When I was feeding BARF I added flax seed oil, kelp, vit e and B every now and then. I don't think you need to worry too much about the extras though.

I noticed someone is selling Wahl clippers in the classifieds.

The Value Of A Second Opinion
Gretel replied to Garden Girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a Dobe girl years ago who had a bit of a skin problem. I took her to the vet but my usual one wasn't on. She checked her over and told me mange mites and I'd have to treat her with rinses. She then checked her over and told me she was pregnant  and that the treatment would affect the puppies. Threw me into a bit of a tizz since she'd not been mated as far as I knew! I rang her breeder in a right state and she calmed me down and asked me to bring her out to show her. She took a look and a feel and said no way is she pregnant and who told you she was?! When I told her which vet she said 'oh the horse vet - she wouldn't have a clue' -
That sounds like an excellent outcome

Yes off to the vet.

Reccomend Me A Better Grooming Regime?
Gretel replied to Rorschach's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A good chance this is her coat now. Desexing and clipping can cause quite a change. What is her diet? Sometimes adding some good oils can help a bit. -
;) Are you doing some training with him? Might need to get that brain working in a good way
-
<tell me they grow out of this???> As Huski said, no. You need to lay down the ground rules and get him to follow them or you will end up with a horror
-
First thing I would do is keep a lead on him. That way you can grab the lead and pull him down without getting close enough to get bitten. This needs to be stopped straight away.
-
He'll be fine. Mine eat raw chicken in one form or another nearly every day
-
At that age I wouldn't buy him.
-
How old is the pup?
-
Probably best not - Cavaliers are supposed to be completely untrimmed for the showring
-
Yes with a tricolour Cav the white does disappear a bit as they grow. If they have a narrow blaze as a baby they will usually lose it. No idea about poodles though sorry except to ask where is the photo?

OH yuk - Solvol Ingrid ate some nice fruity stuff with no ill effects. She has also enjoyed tailors chalk
