  1. Undershot can come right but it can take time and there are no guarantees that it will Ingrid was undershot till about a year old and then eventually changed to level and then scissor. It's not uncommon in Cavs for an undershot mouth to crop up. Some come good and some don't. I guess you need to decide whether you are happy to wait and see if it will come good.
  2. Another good idea Thanks!
  3. Excellent! Thank you - I shall pass it on
  4. A friend has been asked to care for a very elderly Cavalier in her home. While she is quite happy to do it we both feel the dog would be a lot more comfortable in his own home with someone staying with him. Does anyone know of anyone who does this? It would be for two or three weeks I think. I can find out more info. TIA
  5. <So then why is everyone saying to take the dog only if she wants a pet but to wait for one with out the dab of white on the chest if she wants to show?> If it was a stunning dog and didn't have too much white I'd still show it but a new person coming into the breed would be better off getting a pup that is well marked to start with. Some judges are tougher than other's on mismarkings. <Also can you explain why the tri (why the standard says so and everyone seems to think so) has to have a lot of white? What is the reasons that a small abount of white on a tri is 'not good'. How does more white on a tri affect the breed in a positive way and less white in a negative way?> It doesn't have to have a lot of white but the white breaks up the colour and is pleasing to the eye. A tricolour that doesn't have a blaze doesn't usually look as pretty as a tri with a blaze. I did show a tri without a blaze and she did title. She was pretty but she would have done better with a blaze.
  6. <Black white and tan (tri) is acceptable and black and tan is acceptable. But as I read the standard to be tri the dog have to have enough white, and to be black and tan it can not have any white. So a tri dog can not be tri if it has a little bit of white and can not be black and tan either. So is not registered on main and is eliminated from breeding. This flaw that makes it a dog that should never be breed from is not enough white to be tri and too much white to be a black and tan. Can anyone explain why this matters to the breed, why is so important to the breed that a tri have enough white and just a little white is very bad and that would eliminate these dogs from breeding? What is the negative affect, that would happen to the breed if a tri had less white than the desired amount of white? > Shortstep the standard is what we aim for in the show ring and when breeding. A lot of black and tans are born with some white on them. Colour is just cosmetic. When assessing a dog for the show ring or for breeding conformation and health are more important (IMO). There are many dogs who have done well in the show ring despite having a little white or not as much white as is desirable. For example if there are two dogs in the ring which are identical in every aspect (yeah I know that doesn't happen . If they really are equal the dog with the better markings should win. If the dogs are not of equal quality but the better put together dog is not as well marked it should really beat the better marked one. I've often kept a ruby with some white rather than a sibling from a litter if the one with white is the better pup. And wholecolours with white and particolours that are heavily marked can and are used for breeding if they are lovely, well put together dogs with good health. I know I've rambled - hope it makes sense!
  7. It is not as big a problem as some people seem to think. MVD is still the major cause of early death in the breed SM can only be diagnosed definitely by having an MRI.
  8. They are lovely Millie-Moo Why don't you pop into the Spitz thread where we all chat?
  9. Oh no not the man flu!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Gretel had it several times and she didn't respond to antibiotics the last bout so her tonsils were removed and she was fine afterwards. She got very sick the first time she had it.
  11. I'd use the same bedding in both crates. So you'd just carry the bedding upstairs with you at night. He'll soon get used to the routine.
  12. Generally Cavaliers all get on well together. I only have girls cause it's easier when they are in season. It's been like that for many years and no problems. I have boarders come too and they just fit in.
  13. <Melstar, if this pup is for a pet home only, comes from a responsible registered breeder and has health tested parents what you need to know is that its a mismark and the mark may or may not disappear. It's a cosmetic fault and will have no impact whatsoever on the dog's ability to become a great pet. If you liked the pup's temperament and its a sound healthy pup then I'd not be concerned if I were a pet buyer.> Very well said PF! It does depend on how large the area of white is. It will certainly lessen as the pup grows. Jersey (the ruby in my siggie) was born with a white stripe down her face and quite a large patch of white on her chest. She does still have some white hairs on her head (she's 20 months old now) but there are less and less and eventually she will have none on her face. The white on her chest has decreased but she will always have some. It's not as noticable on a ruby and tends to disappear to some extent in her bib. I kept her for showing over her sister as she was the better pup. Her sister had no white. Jersey was placed at our recent club show from a large class under an English judge. I would be a lot more concerned that the breeder is specialist health testing then a patch of white. Some breeders will tell you they are health tested but have only been checked by the vet.
  14. Ozpetshop had the best price that I could find online, so I ordered it from there. Yes I haven't found any cheaper but thought I'd check first.
  15. He certainly looks happy with it Where did you buy it?
  16. How often she comes in season depends on the bitch. I had one who came in every 3 months! I've had others who went 9 months between seasons. About 6 months is usual.
  17. My guinea pigs had herb names. I had Basil, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme.
  18. They are beautiful!!! That one of Charlie is so sweet
  19. I have the insides of a few beds Vienna has decided to kill. I'll make some new covers when I get around to it. We have one of those round cheapie ones from KMart and no one has ever chewed it.
  20. A lot of people would disagree about Cavaliers not moulting much. I love them but I do end up with hair through the house.
  21. Many people don't realise that the King Charles Spaniel is a totally different breed. They are a bit smaller and have a shorter muzzle and a domed head. They differ in temperament too. There are not many King Charles Spaniels about. These are 'Charlies' Thanks Gretel. So I'd be correct if I referred to Dallas as either a Cavalier or a CKCS but not as just a 'King Charles' - correct? Yes indeed
  22. Years ago I had someone behind me in the group line up continually squeaking a toy at her dog.

  24. Phoebe was quite a princess. She knew she was gorgeous She was very, very sweet and loving though. She wasn't a great fan of children. Never would have hurt them but didn't think much of small, noisy people. My current girls are all quite different. Ingrid is very affectionate to her chosen people but never happy when someone new comes into the house. I didn't get her until 18 months old so I don't know if something happened before that. She is a hunter and at 9 still is out after lizards a lot of the day. Bree is a bit of a scatterbrain but not a mean bone in her body and she loves everybody. Her daughter, Jersey, is very calm and sensible and I'm doing a bit of obedience with her. She also loves everybody.
