Yes rear dewclaws seem to cause more a problem than front ones. I'd have them removed.

Mumoftwo have you read the breed standard and read books and seen some lovely Cavaliers in the ring? It might be worthwhile for you to come along to the breed specialty in Sydney.

What is the point of an "acceptable weight"if its still not acceptable when they are in within that range ?? Maybe they look overweight because they need a haircut ? Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not clipped! <When you say "knowing how to care for their coats" what exactly do you mean. > I mean knowing enough to know they are not clipped! You can't seriously look at yours and think they are how a Cavalier should look if you were going to show it? Have the ears been cut off? It's not that difficult to understand that some are bigger than others so some will weigh more than others. It's all about what is the correct weight for the particular dog.

<I thought I would take some photos of my cavaliers that I intend to breed just to get everyones opinion of them........> Yes by that I took it that you wanted opinions. Cavaliers King Charles Spaniels are shown unclipped so please don't get them clipped. Please learn some more about the breed and if you girl is worthwhile breeding. There are already way too many puppies being bred. If you learn everything you can by going to shows, talking with knowledgeable breeders, reading etc then you would be in a much better position as far as breeding. At this time you don't have some of the basics - such as knowing how to care for their coats. A decent breeder should at least be able to give their puppy buyers basic care information.

If you don't want opinions why put up the photos? To me they look like cuddly pet dogs. I can see why you aren't interested in showing.

I am with you Gretel. Vet nurse or not you should know the breed correctly. Common name is Cavs the others are Charlies. Oh wow remind me never to make an error on this forum ever again, you must be the only few that have never made a mistake. You and people like you are the reason I thought long and hard whether to ask for advice, but no longer will I do so. There are much friendlier and helpful forums elsewhere :) I know for a fact I have made mistakes but I can't speak for others  The one mistake I do not make is knowing the name of my breed.

Unbelievable,if you had bothered to read my earlier comment, I accidentally typed the words the wrong way around !! I dont particularly care if you doubt my ability to judge whether she's a good example of the breed, I shouldve known better than to ask people on this forum for their opinions - while most people are willing to help there are quite a few that go out of their way to be judgemental and nasty. I have read all the replies including the one I was commenting on in which you call your dog a King Charles. There are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and there are King Charles Spaniels. Do you know which one yours is? Or is that a nasty question?

<My question was if it was common for King Charles to go longer than 6 months !!! > Please try to get the breed right! She is not a King Charles - they are a totally different breed. I am in serious doubt about how you know she is such a great example of the breed...

This probably isn't what you want to read but he's a Cavalier and the thing is Cavaliers really want to be with you.... Mine spend most of thier time inside. They do go out to play at times and will sometimes lie out in the sun but they'd prefer if I was out there with them

I guess I'm just lucky that none of mine seem to enjoy wallowing  Lacey used to but she seems to have grown out of it. We have a lovely big pool of mud and water down the back lately with all the rain but no one has been near it.

 No white or creams here

The Cavaliers are in the kitchen and the Lappie is in her crate. (she ate the last kitchen  )

Thanks Pers :D Though I am a little disappointed to learn that good photos depend on the user too! :p

Hi all you good people who are clever about these things :D At the moment I have a Canon Ixus. I want to buy a new camera to take good pics of the dogs. I had toyed with the idea of a DSLR but basically I am rather lazy and don't want all the hassle of learning how to use it properly. A man at Harvey Norman suggested the new Nikon J model (I think it was the J?). He told me I'd be able to get pretty good photos without having to learn and that it is really fast so would be good for what I'm after. Any thoughts please? TIA :)

As much as it hurts it really is the best thing you can do in the circumstances. I do feel for you

It's very easy to jump to conclusions and get worried! Glad it's nothing nasty. :)

I sold a lovely little black and tan puppy many years ago. Not long after I was reading the lost and founds in the paper and there was an ad in there for a lost black and tan pup. Yes it was the one I'd sold - they hadn't even rung to let me know. They think he was stolen from their yard and they never did get him back.
-
I guess the ideal would be to have a really safe yard that can't be seen into with access to the house through a doggy door :) My dogs are always locked inside when I'm not home. I don't have a particularly great yard as far as protection from the elements and I would worry if they were outside. Years ago my Newfie and my Dobe got into nextdoor's yard and ate a box of snail pellets. My Newfie died and my Dobe nearly did. I have good solid fences now but I'd still worry!

I just had a call letting me know they were waiting on more stock.

Hi, I put in an order with Pookinuk last week. According to the site it is still 'processing'. I've tried ringing to see when I can expect it and left a message but not had a call back. I haven't bought anything from them for a while now but always found them very prompt. Anyone had any dealings with them lately? TIA :)

I am so happy for you!!!
