  1. Is he food motivated? I'd be aiming to have lots of good things happening while he is on lead. Clip the lead on, don't make any fuss about it or pick it up. Call him for his dinner. Gradually introduce more good things happening while the lead is attached. Play games, do some training - not training picking up the lead though - things like sit and drop and come. When he is happily managing all this let him get used to you picking up the lead and walking with you. Maybe get his dinner ready, have someone else put it down a little way away from you and walk beside him holding the leash. It will take him a while to get used to it but he's not going to improve unless you do some training with him.
  2. This has to be the BEST three lines I have read on DOL this year. Absolutely gold, but so true. Yes indeedy!!! I would think that the OP could use some help in the form of talking to someone in a professional manner to help her overcome the grief and move on with her life with her new dog :)
  3. Ah that may have been me  If you pop into the Spitz thread in the breed sub forum there are a lot more people to talk too :) http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/137956-spitz-breeds/
  4. Love some of the names  My first pet mice were Royal Shah and Gentys Pride - I got their names out of the race guide!! My son named a couple of our pups when he was little. We had Boot and Gerty. I didn't ask him to name any more after that.... My most unusual one now would be Ingrid. She came with the name. I wasn't really too fussed with it but she really is Ingrid so I couldn't change it. Jersey was named Jersey cause she was born brown with a white stripe like a jersey caramel :D
  5. Have you thought about a Finnish Lapphund? Not quite as much grooming. Some are much more active than others but I find my Vienna wonderful to live with and very calm with kids. She's lovely to train and enjoys a walk but if we don't get out for a walk she's fine with that too. :)
  6. I'm reading this with interest too as I've just handed in my resignation.
  7. No don't feel bad! OH was behind someone who hit two dogs in their car last night. Dogs should not be out loose.
  8. Are the pups warm enough? Or too warm?
  9. Cavaliers are sociable doglets so I can't see a problem with them getting on :)
  10. If someone cannot have children and decides to get a dog and treat it with as much importance as they would have done with a child, what is so bad about that? It's when they treat the dog as a person. A dog is a dog and treating them as a child does no one any good. I have a friend who treats her dogs as children and they behave like spoilt bratty children
  11. Yes. Even long before children came into my life my dog was, my dog. My friend, companion, confidant, but my dog. :) The cat of course was the supreme commander and overlord. ;) Well said :D
  12. My mum has never liked kids. It's a bit sad cause she didn't have much to do with my kids when they were growing up and now they are adults she wants to see them but they are not at all close. She wouldn't let me have a dog when I was a kid cause, "Dogs are children and cats are adults". So I could have cats but not dogs. It never stopped me trying though  I work in childcare and have 5 dogs and my Mum thinks I'm crazy... Ah but then she could be right!
  13. You're lucky they have only just started! Yep - cat poop is a delicacy
  14. I'd been ordering from Pookinuk and very happy with them until the last time. They were out of stock but didn't let me know so I was waiting on the order. It took a while to get them to reply to my messages and then I still had to chase it up when they only sent part of it
  15. I don't understand how you can clip the dog if you want to show it?
  16. <but he just keeps challenging in different ways. Walking in front of us, jumping up, leaning on us, not listening, barking ect.> He is a spitz. I don't know Kees but have you talked to other owners about typical behaviours of the breed?

    Rip Sarah

    I am sorry. Bye Sarah
  18. Was it you that had Cavalier pups stolen some time ago? I hope you find your pups but I can't understand why you would have left them out.
  19. That is very sad - I hope someone comes along to love him!
  20. I am so sorry for you. I had my lovely Dobe girl PTS as she had Wobblers. It's heartbreaking losing them so young
