New Dog From Breeder.. Something Not Right......
Gretel replied to mel121's topic in General Dog Discussion
She is obviously most unhappy. If I'd sent a dog to someone and they were in that state I'd want them back ASAP. But with the breeder out of contact it makes it difficult! I'm afraid I'd be thinking bad thoughts if I couldn't contact them. But then there is the chance something has happened to them to put them out of contact. Perhaps try other avenues to find out if someone else is in contact with the breeder without letting on there is a problem... Good luck! -
Cavalier? Many years ago I did obedience with one of mine and she did very well (despite me  ). I have a couple now who are great to train and if I could be bothered would do well competing I think. And a couple I bred have done brilliantly in agility. There are some couch potato Cavs but I find that most are more active and really enjoy pleasing their owner :D

My dogs diet is way better than mine! I know what I should eat but actually eating it doesn't seem to happen. -
Some Photos From Our Holiday Down The Coast

Great pics :D anywhere down the coast you recommend? Just planning a holiday! -
Mine were done with c3 at 6/7 weeks and due again at 12 weeks but one of my puppy buyers had him done at 9 weeks too on their vets advice.

Yes I'd agree with the others. I have a girl staying with me whose owner has been feeding her weight control kibble for 6 months without the poor girl losing a thing. Mind you I have no doubt she has been fed lots of other non diet stuff (and plenty of it ). I've had her just over 2 weeks and got 2 kilos off feeding her a very tiny amount of normal dry food for breakfast. Just about 6 pieces to make me feel better cause I give her something when the others eat. And then for tea she has pumpkin and a chicken neck. Not a long term solution but she was in pain with a back problem so needs the weight off. She is moving so much better and is smiling again :) We still have quite a way to go yet.

My Finnish Lapphund is wonderful with kids :)

Yes we are working on the weight. Her owner reckons she's been on a diet for 6 months and lost nothing. That's why she's here at 'fat camp'
-
Thanks :) yes she's had a scan.
-
She was on Metacam and Vallium but the owner said the vet told her she could go off them.

I have a Cavalier back at the moment to get some weight off her. She is very overweight and has been diagnosed as having a collapsed disc. I am keeping her fairly quiet and dieting her. Would any of the supplements be helpful for her back? TIA :)
-
Yes she is massively overweight. I was shocked as she walked in the front door when they came to stay. Unfortunately it was only for a few days so I wasn't able to get much weight off in that time. I've put many many Cavaliers on diets over the years. They love their food and for some reason many owners can't seem to see what they are doing to them!

She is in Sydney. I looked after her a couple of weeks ago and really got stuck into the owner about the poor dogs weight. She was on a very strict diet here! Her mum and sister weigh around 7.5 k and she weighs 14 she is a bigger dog but not that big!
-
I just noticed she has posted on Face Book that it is a collapsed disc? She told me vertabrae?
-
Thanks - I have just messaged her and will hopefully find out more.
-
I don't know. She rang me yesterday while I was away and I was so shocked I didn't think to ask much. I did suggest she get another opinion. Maybe visit the specialist centre? I'm after advice so I can have more idea what to tell her.
-
Hi, I've had a phone call to let me know that a Cavalier I bred has a collapsed vertabrae. She is 3 1/2 years old and very overweight. The vet has done X-rays and told the owner there is no treatment. We are devestated!

Someone gave me a kennel years ago. It sat near the back door for a long time and it stayed there, completely ignored, for months until I gave it away
-
Yes I'd definitely see a specialist. Sometimes the Optimune can stimulate enough tear production so the dog doesn't need further treatment. I had a very young pup with virtually no tear production from either eye. After being on it for a while she started producing enough tears in one eye that it no longer needs treatment. The other eye improved a little but not enough and she still needs it in that eye. And I had an older dog who responded well to it and after about a year no longer needed any treatment. :)
