  1. .What worrys you about GSD's???? Have you had a previous bad experience with one? Im not beening nasty. Its just one thing that really gets my goat up.. I have a 13 month GSD (small size wise by breed standards) and I really get frustrated with people assuming she is nasty just because she is a GSD.... Just wanting to understand what makes people sacred.. I also have a 13 month Great Dane and get frustrated when people assume that it is my dog that has the bad manners. It would be lovely to be able to pick my girl up and walk away when a small breed dog gives her a hard time but considering she weighs more then me it is a little tricky . I believe a thread was started about small and large breeds acting the same not to long ago.. I get that the larger breeds can do damage purely because of the size but smaller breed owners have to realise its not always a big breeds fault..Some of the smaller dogs suffer from "small man syndrome" and just dont give up.. A perfect example was my girl was playing at the beach with some other dogs (who she new) and a small x breed came up and kept sniffy/ licking my girls privates.. I obviously tried to pull my girl away but the little dog kept going and going, even when we were walking away.. Eventually Bella had enough and growled and showed teeth (yes a scary thing in its self when coming from a 67kilo dog) the other owner finnaly realised that my dog had had enough and said my dog had temper issues and I should control it better.. Im not condoning everything big dogs do... I think all dogs should have manners and owners should be able to see if there dogs is doing something wrong instead of blaming the other sized dog... Sorry Rant over I can bet its nothing to do with the breed, its peoples perceptions and what they are taught/used too. An example is I worked two Narcotic Detection dogs, both Labradors both Passive Alert Dogs one was Black one was gold, nobody fussed about the BIG male gold one but the wiry small female black one had people a bit scared! People and their perceptions! lol I myself favour large dogs ( any breed) but take a dislike to small fluffies ( any breed acutrally any small dog!) as they always seem to want to bark, snarl and carry on whats worse is the owners think its funny!
  2. I have looked and at home I only have my scent detection manuals I will over the weekend get the Man work Manulas from the workshop they are stored at. I will scan a few basic parts and post them here for the gist of how the dog works.
  3. We actually did check before we cut them down that Synergy overrides the Shire :D And the trees will be replaced with bushes that can't grow tall enough to impact on the powerlines ;) Although why the silly people that we bought the property off planted Eucalypts under powerlines I will never know (and yes they are planted not natural) Mundaring don't want any trees cut down. FESA recommends a 20m buffer around houses but in Mundaring Shire you can get pinged if you cut down trees more than 4m away from a house Even if the tree is dead and dangerous you have to fight to get permission to get rid of it I have lots of interesting stories about the Shire and "red tape" that is just a waste of time and money (like what does it matter exactly what my horses are fed if I have said they are being hard fed in an application that we didn't even need to put in according to their written rules, but were told to put in anyway?) ETA: I love whinging about the Shire They have been uselss for a while, they b arged into my parents property and insisted they hand over the "aggressive pit bull type dog" there that had been seen to have wanderd in there, my mum sia d and pointed "That one" its not mine go and get it! The ranger asked her to get it and put it in the car! My mum is over 70 years old, I told her she should have told them to do there job themselves! She said the rangers TWO big burly men were scared of the dog! The council has never been very helpful in many ways, my parents are always having no luck with getting anything moved through their archaic rules and regs! Nice to know somethings havent changed in the 40 years they have been there!
  4. Lol Toby and Lincoln are registered under my name and Lilly under thiers so could I apply for the permit? (Without them knowing ) Nah I think I want a 5 year break from new puppies, having 2 under 2 is a bit too much right now. The dog registration actually goes on the premise they are kept at not on who it is reg to. The only way around it is to either a)apply for the number of dogs up front b) reg all dogs and if anyone comes say "your mothers reg dog" is just temp visiting! Lots of people try to sneak the system but it usually gets caught out somewhere. ;)
  5. Ahh good someone that understands how the Police dogs actually work! Its hard to explain but thanks Cramet YOU have done it perfectly. I have man work notes somewhere here if I find them I can post them if anyone is interested in the manuals used to train for man work and General purpose work. :D
  6. This is how the Police GP dogs are trained they are used as Crowd dispersants, there was no control issues that i could see, its how they all worked when I have seen them and worked with them. My ex was a PDH and a Police Dog Trainer, trust me the handlers are in control! The two situations were different thats why the dogs reacted they way they did, a dog as a weapon is an unknown and most people are unsure of the dog hence why the dogs are trainied to bark on command, even if another police officer roams to near the dog will bite, unfortunate but generally the police only get bitten once! lol :D
  7. Glad to hear you are both ok, sounds like a dominance thing to me, if the other dog had wanted to he would have hurt your pup. :D
  8. Jed!! I bet the demand for LGR will be even more after this article!! Goats
  9. I am reasonably sure City of Swan allows 3 dogs on 5+ acres. Mundaring Shire allows 4 on 5+ acres. That is without a permit City of Swan Number of Dogs Allowed You can keep a maximum of two dogs on your property without City approval. If you wish to keep more than two dogs on your property you will need to apply for either a 3-6 Dog Permit or a Kennel Licence. 3-6 Dog Permit A permit may be required if an owner wishes to keep more than two dogs on their property and up to a maximum of six. The intending applicant must lodge an application with the City with the relevant application fees. This application pack is available by contacting the City on 9267 9267. An application fee of $110.00 applies. Pensioners are entitled to a 50% concession. A Kennel Licence is required for anyone who wishes to breed dogs as a business and/or keep more than six dogs on their property on a permanent or extended basis (eg. more than 3 months). For a Kennel Licence you will need to seek Planning Approval. Click here to download the application form for Planning Approvals. MUNDARING Shire ( My parents are here and can only have 4 dogs on 5 acres!) How many dogs can be kept at home? This depends on your property size. If your property size is less than: 10,000 square metres (2 1/2 acres) the maximum number permitted is two (2) dogs. 10,000 square metres (2 1/2 acres) but less than 20,000 square metres (5 acres) is three (3) dogs. 20,000 square metres (5 acres) or more is four (4) dogs. If you have more than the permitted number of dogs on your property, you must apply for approval for a Multiple Dog license unless they are under the age of three months
  10. DSorry to HJ thread but Thanks to all, I have some new ideas!! Xolos despi\te having no hair can get awful feet, with permission may I pass this on to Xolo breeders ? Thanks again I shall try some of these.
  11. No nothing is wrong there are two trains of thoughts and two lots of research, the pro will put there research forward and the againist will state their research facts. Really its up to each to research what is best for them and their dog. I desex early for my reasons as have other breeders in my breed, others have their objectives. there are many threads on DOL re for and against.
  12. I have posted this in General but thought a few here may miss it, too good not to share with everyone! http://www.bewareanimalradicals.com/index.html ;)
  13. Through a USA chat list but none the less very powerful IMHO! ;) Billboard adverts click here
  14. You might like to contemplate why CW. I totally understand why they won't, and I respect that :D It's all good. I know and understand everyone view on desexing puppies at young age :D If I decide to get a puppy this weekend, it's part of the agreement I have with the breeder to have the pup desex before 6 months. 5 months the latest. I respect her wishes and understand where she is coming from. This pup's mum came into season earlier then some too. Also, I don't feel comfortable in my new area with a lot of dogs around to have a pup in heat. Although my house and yard is as secure as they come, I've seen dogs do incredible things to get to a bitch in heat!! I also have a desexed male dog at home who also goes funny over a female dog in heat.. and he is DESEXED!!! I seriously do not want accidents. I'm just planning ahead and working things out Thats great you have this attitude and the breeder is desexing. I will desex ALL my Xolos before they leave me at 12 weeks, others will be owned or on co ownership. My breeder desexes all of hers that are not for breeding at 8 weeks and has had no problems.
  15. an example of other canine controls in very rare breeds like the Xoloitzcuintle has allowed the follwing to preserve the breed, A hairless Xolo that has never been registered can be inspected and given an initial registration through FCM by visiting the FCM facility in Monterey, Guadalajara or Mexico City. Xoloitzcuintle are given this special opportunity to receive a registration upon inspection in Mexico because of their rarity and their importance to the people of their country of origin. This practice of visual inspection and registration is also a very real necessity because there are many undocumented Xolo bloodlines. It is common practice for Xolo breeders in Mexico to seek out new breeding stock in the isolated villages of the Mexican countryside. The larger cities of Mexico are vary modern but many small villages remain extremely isolated. There are many Xolo bloodlines that remain undocumented because of this, perhaps some of the best. . A Xolo registered in Mexico with FCM can be shown in any FCI country of the world. I am fortunate enough to have two wild Xolos in my bitches pedigree 3 generations behind.
  16. Unfortunately they are no longer imported into Australia and havent been for quiet a while now. Any idea as to why? MM Email lexie the rep at Eagle Pack and she can tell you why they are discontinued here and possibly what products are in there place! Tell her you are a WA DOLer she looks after us extra special!! lol customer [email protected]
  17. I'd try ringing because they don't always get back to you when you email. My class starts at 7.30 but I might get there earlier to watch the UD class. I'll bring the dvds on Thursday :D . ValleyCBR I have my multi dog application I submitted ( although not Shire of Swan all under Dog Act) a few off DOL have used mine to get theirs. Let me know if you want me to email it to you, no hassles if you word and prepare the document right! lol :D
  18. Thanks for that Willow. It will be intersting to see how it compares to the real world of working a dog, I do hope they show all the angles of a working dog..
  19. Well my breed is totally stuffed if anyone wants to oodleise it a xoloitzcpoo would be pronounced show low eats poo! :D

  21. The costs of Vet Bills if something goes wrong ( the cost even if it doesnt is good too) what can happen with dogs that are not health tested, the costs and heartbreak to owners of their beloeved pet when faced with thousands in vet bills or Euthansia. The costs that are not thought of generally give people a wake up call, Tell me a breeder who has made money from dogs and I will eat my hat. ( I mean a real breeder not a cross bred breeder of SWFs) Good luck and I am sure they will take on board what you say to them. DOL link
  22. Anchovy is the best for skin and itching, I have my dogs on that and the improvement is amazing, I occ use a duck one for variety but I can swear by the Anchovy EP ( I can swear well without it too by the way! )
  23. Rufus yes exactly being questiones is good but being interrogated can be a bit daunting, my breeder had a 52 question paper I had to fill in and it was all done very amicably, I have narrowed my puppy q down to 50 questions, lol Thanks for the thread I am enjoying the posts.
  24. If you call Murdoch Vet they have a great print out of all the pet insurance companies in a side by side comparison, I got one the other day, maybe they clould email the document to you. :D
