  1. Sorta A bit off topic but if it can help Jed then its ok (in my eyes!) I mentioned in another thread to Cockerlover maybe a JED Lead design could be made to help raise a few $$ for JED, Dog breeds are usually featured on the leads, has anyone any ideas in a JED lead ( sort of along the lines of strength and healing for Jed?) Her Favourite place? Words of strength ? Jeds Favourite Standard The Lithuaninan Goat Catcher! lol Just a few ideas, the money raised CL said could get a portion to the Jed Fund? Any ideas please let Cocker lover know, her leads are devine,
  2. Yep.. you're so right there! Can someone tell me why a bitch can compete in the showring when its in season? I would have thought this was unfair to fellow competers? Because bitches shouldn't be penalised for being bitches and coming into season. You can train and correct your males to ignore bitches in season , to a certain degree for the show ring. Mine don't really give a stuff about the girls being in season. The ring is supposed to be about conformation and it's a couple of minutes at a time. Running a triangle and out and back and stacking for 30 odd seconds , doesn't really compare to what you do in the obedience ring, in terms of exercises and time. It's not fair for dogs competing in other dog sports and obedience to have the added distraction, the playing field would not be even if a bitch in season was competing. Thanks CBR and SBT. I will have to see as my bitch is coming into season and nearing her first show, I dont mind upsetting my dog but I would not like to upset anyone elses, mmm a good one to think about. I used to take mine if she was coming into or out of season, but I did not show her if she was in obvious standing heat as I didn't think it was fair, but I also had horror visions of someones dog getting loose and do naughty things to my little girl! Not to mention it's hardly pretty with the short coated dogs Yep can't hide much there! Well thats answers it then I have no way of hiding anything lol Could add a whole new meaning for some to the name Xolo itz cuint le !

  6. Jed will be so teary when she reads all this soon, what a lovely bunch you are, if not for all your prayers and warmth I am sure Jed would not be as content as she is today, come on Jed not far now, feeeeel the love and strength. ;)
  7. When my girl caught a rat I called the Animal Hospital to check if she would be okay if the rat had been poisoned. They said that if she had ingested it, I wouldn't know within the first day or so. It can cause hemmoeraging (sp all wrong I know...) and if she showed signs of this (which could include blood coming out of her nose or eyes) to get her to emergency ASAP. She would need shots and then a 6 week course of meds. ETA: She said if they had eaten snail pellets they would be violently ill and possibly dead by the time I saw the rat and called :-( I was told once the animal had ingested a poisened rat/mouse it was too late after 12 hours once the warfarin had started to act. I would rather be safe than sorry and risk waiting.
  8. Because my dog was bought for herself, not a breeding machine to pump out puppies, or recover her "cost" - as so many people do. I bought her for her and the things we could do togther. If she was good at what she did and people wanted one like her, then I suggest they try to get one from the same lines, or the same bitch or dog as my bitch. YOu are more like to get the same from a repeat mating than from one of her babies. Many mnay people are not into breeding, or have the time and resources to breed. Ooh Ohh tell me where I can get a dog that will recover its cost! I bet anyone on DOL has never recvered their cost! lol Dogs are a never ending hand in pocket expense! lol Well mine always have been! ;)
  9. I have a vets bill from the dogs eating poisoned rats, better to be safe than sorry I say. A while back I had a Doberman that ate a 1080 bait and when it was induced to vomit another dog ate its vomit, that too was dead within 10 mins. ( I know its different bait) but just a story to sahre. ;)
  10. I will try & be polite ;) Why did you do this? The mice will have probably died from exposure/predation... and stress. Not a good way to go. and if they didn't.... National parks do not need any more feral animals competing with small natives for food/shelter. ;) oh I hope you desexed them before rehoming They were still alive - none died. The house backs onto the National park - they came from there in the first place. You can put them in the freezer and they go to sleep
  11. YES I can vouch after being at the vets last week with my dogs all five had the emetic and the three who fiddled with the dead rat got Vit K That will be $800 thank you very much! Even if you have mice YOU can bet anything they visit the neighbours and they may have baits out, so a dead mouse wherever it dies may be picked up by a dog. The Warfarin they use to kill them is very slow and painful and kills them after 12 hours( the process starts then) so it can take a few days for the mouse, dog whatever to die. BE careful havin just gone through this experience it is not a nice one.
  12. The breed I have ic commonly desexed at 8 - 14 weeks in the USA and I shall be doing the same, been done in the USA for many years. You will always get the against and the fors, really its the breeders own choice as what they want to do with their dogs, before they see or rehome them.
  13. I can only state my opionons and what I do. I desex all at 10 - 14 weeks before they are rehomes, the studies I ahve looked into and researched have shown no adverse effects. Obviously the dogs I show are not desexed.
  14. lol Ozjen sorry I am not laughing at you BUT what dogs do! Jelly belliesthat they are someone else is getting more attention! They are still great creations! Hope fully it wont be raining on the weekend as I am supposed to take my dog to see a handler at the K9 centre, DOL meet on same day so may have to for go meet as I promised I would head to K9 centre. Hope to see some of you who may be there.
  15. Here you go Wazza Butteries wow thank you for the link, how interesting I have never heard of them. they sound delicious. I will ask my scots friends
  16. Please tell I doubt it would be outside in this weather! Surely not!
  17. I have one ( two testes) of my dogs testes on top of the fridge ( in a jar) as a display for people who want to see dogs testes!! OR a threat to anyone else who pisses me off in the house! lol
  18. You are correct Wazzat. What are your thoughts on testicular cancer in dog's, have you experienced it???. Having no testicles myself No ( Although my old boss thinks I have em!) I personally desex all dogs if they are not being used for breeding by myslef, although I have heard That most malignant prostatic tumors in dogs occur in desexed dogs and desexing your dog puts him at risk for one of the worst cancers they can get. You can remove the very slight risk of testicular cancer in desexed dogs, that's a small matter; the incidence of testicular cancer is so minimal. I have read a large number of testicular cancers in dogs are benign. But this is only what i have read on the net, I myself am a desex em if your not using them person and will continue this as I have had no problems in the past with my choices. It will be an ongoing debate and there are both good and not so good for both realms of thought
  19. I just had too reply !! Mastectomy may reduce the risk of Breast cancer BUT silicone implants then up it again lol
  20. This is how I feel.. But then why does a vet say 6 months. its confusing!!!! Because they don't look outside the square and most would never research anything in that nature beyond what they were taught at vet school. Ask for a vasectomy and see how cleaver your vet is BB did you mean cleaver! I have coffee everywhere YOU made my night very clever! lol a vasectomy with a cleaver! lol Its like the scrotum and the sternum always muddled them up too!
  21. Two schools of thought and two sets of data and research on this subject and one will say one way and the other will swear by their way! I personally desex all my dogs and puppies before rehome at 10 weeks to 14 weeks ( have done some at 8 weeks) My puppies, my choice and my business. Each to their own, no wrong or right, just different schools of thought for different paths and dogs in life.
  22. Can I ask what a Butterie ? is ? a lolly ? Sorry I dont know ?
