  1. I think the MDBA should name an award after Jed as in a Courage Award for what they have been through and accomplished. Ok I know who will win the first award but I believe it should be ongoing as this woman ( Sorry Jed not talking about you lol ) Is amazing in ALL that she has accomplished and her spirit!
  2. ok well I was very lucky then as mine came in at some ungodly time lol Thanks Ptolomy
  3. I assume and I know with MY BREED that they cant be left alone and ITS NOT the fault of anyone its just the way the breed is. One day when you meet one you may understand! and for the record I would never ever sell to someone who cant confrom to what I require, which includes not working full time, or having alernative arrangements in place as I mentioned earlier. Anyone who wants my breed can assume all they like I can only state the facts with this particular breed as I KNOW to be fully correct!! lol Anyhow it would never happen as only people who had done homework on the breed would ever be able to own one ( from my kennel anyhow)
  4. Yes I know lol it wasin reply to a qoute I made and someone mis read it, maybe I shpould have PMed it sorry for the confusion! carry on !! Very good thread by the way!
  5. I am very pleased you have an ethical breeder and you are pleased!! Co ownership is a wonderful invention!!
  6. I'm sorry then, what type of "drive" were you talking about if you don't mean prey drive, and don't mean aggression? It's interesting to hear different people's views on what working dogs "should" be like. But when it comes down to it, and no offence intended to anyone here, I agree it does make sense to take the word of people with real life experience in handling police & security dogs. And the ones I have talked to appear to have no hesitation in decribing their dogs as having "aggression". Staranias this is the reply to the question I asked in what the WA Police look for in a WAPOL Dog Base Criteria German Shepherd or Rottweiler, ( will look at cross breds) males preferred 12 months to 24 months very active retriever sound temperament not overly aggressive but will stand their ground when challenged; physically fit with good conformation ( not show standard but healthy) very alert Some of their dogs have been family pets, rescued from shelters and from breeders. G emphasised the main point they look at is the drive for the article ( be it ball, sleeve etc) and the non overly aggressive dog but able to satnd their ground. I poersonally donot like the word aggressive as I think its been done to death by the BSL people and the general community has a new meaning for this word when associaetd with dogs.
  7. Like? I dont know I can only comment on the breeds I know, possibly others on DOL that are experienced in their breed may care to comment!!
  8. An example of some breeds require constant companionship and a lot of socialisation is the Xolo All breeds are different have a read up on the Xolo ( NO XOLO breeder worth their salt anywhere in the world would sell a Xolo to a home where someone is not home for the most part of the day or have a creche/ day care in place) The pupies need people contact for at least six/eight months, this is not the temperament produced by a breeder this is the breeds critical socialisation period. My breeder has been in the game for 30 years and I am sure ( being regarded as the best in the world ) her breeding practices with this breed are sound and well ahead of any other Xolo breeder in the world, but then again the Xolo breed is primitive and unless you have experience and research with this breed there is no need to worry as very few people would be suited to the breed and thankfully very few people will be. Not everyones cup of tea for so many reasons, this post is related to the Xolo breed itself, but I am sure there may be other breeds that may be similar.
  9. Thanks Ellz but they told me last year as its gone up to $40 a day fees that was all inclusive of everything, I gather it would be hard to get all landins esecially over seas ones to all coincide with their opening hours lol
  10. Have they changed the rules Ptolomy? I am bringing over a new dog and I wanst aware new rules they must arrive during work hours? The Qtine staff advised me they will pick them up ?
  11. Yes I can tell you twice mine came from USA ( both 11 months old ) and stopped in NZ then on to Aus, they were cared for very well and arrived in tip top condition, I even got onthe way photos that I requested from the pet carrier1 Ask for photos just to ease your mind, besides remember its in their best interests to look after your dog, they dont need bad publicity
  12. Just for teh recod My breeder asked If I worked full time and with good reason as the Xolos could not be left alone for any great lengths of time and needed 6 hours of social and training per day, this is the breed so I would assume not all are the same.. I have had to take a year off work to get this breed settled and socialised in order to be able to show them here in Australia, as they are a breed that requires a lot of hands on work due to the breed being primitive in nature and so many other ways lol Not sure on other breeds but maybe thats why breeders ask the question, I was aksed it and I will ask it of every puppy buyer! J
  13. Yes beautiful photo what a great photo for the breed and seminars etc! Well done on the litters and all your hard work and as SBT said look out for lotsa poops!
  14. Read all the replies as everyone is different in what they require, best to contact the breeder and take it from there, some have questionaires, all will interview you on certain topics but I am sure ALL only want whats best for their puppies

And the ones I have talked to appear to have no hesitation in decribing their dogs as having "aggression". I will email the Poilce Dog handler and post his reply! I do hope that will suffice as experience! I have no interest in this breed just wanted to correct the notion of all Police Dogs must have agression ( Which is not how they are trained!)
  16. This is where it goes off track IMO because dogs that genetically light up fast are nervy dogs that lack confidence coupled with defence drive is a nasty dog with the potential to be uncontrollable. Half of the dogs like this won't "out" and are not clear headed enough to take the command. Fast light up's and over sharpness although it looks tough and is workable in defence doesn't equate to nerve strength and is usually the opposite. Dog's renowned for hard nerve and fighting drive are nothing like that, calm and uneffected until commanded or triggered to attack. It's a total misconception IMHO that unprovoked displays of aggression is the result of a hard nerved dog. There's more to dog temperament than just prey, defence, & nerve, though. It's not like being nervous is the only characteristic that can make a dog a poor pet. How about social aggression/rank aggression, for example - the dog that would love to be top of the heap and says "oh yeah? Gonna make me?" when someone tells it do so something it would prefer not to do. This type of temperament can make a dog far "too much dog" for a novice/pet home, without making it a nervous dog or a poor working candidate. As for the poster who said that police dogs are assessed only on prey drive and not aggression - if that were true then we could use solid nerved greyhounds as patrol dogs! It was I WAZZATXOLO and I said No Police dogs are NOT asessed on their agression its the drive In fact overly agressive dogs dont make good Police Dogs ! I said drive which is a different kettle of fish to prey drive too ( research that as well! ) :D Anyhow what would I know !!!!! Gee whizz there are so many experts and a few spurts lol. My comments were made from personal experience from a Senior Police Dog Trainer, but what would he know anyhow ! I stand by my initial comments and I am sure if you research YOU will find they are spot on!! Good luck with your mass debate
  17. No Police dogs are NOT asessed on their agression its the drive ! In fact overly agressive dogs dont make good Police Dogs

  20. The Chinese Crested actually came from the breeding of the xolos and many other breeds to eventaully get the Crested . I did a You tube clip of Rach and me in the City That Day The Xolo City Wander
  21. They get looks wherever they go funnily enough! I tell you if you had a complex or were a bit funny about being seen then they would be not a breed for you! Its why I had the word Xoloitzcuintle embroidered on all their coats ! lol
  22. Rach you got the fat side of me !! where is the one where i look like Elle mcpherson ? Dont worry I cant find it either! lol I loove your face, the laugh was because we were told to look up and DO NOT look down, its hard to walk and just look up with two dogs who were a bit unsure of a few Perthitesand skateboarders, odd people and all sorts to dodge!! It was a great day and THANK YOU to Rach we all raised a fair bit of dosh for animal rescue ( APS)
