  3. No, but they can be very, very inhumane. I have a friend serving in Afghanistan at the moment, he asked a local why none of the dogs have ears, apparently it makes them more aggresive having their ears cut off. The dog fighting problem s endemic in many muslim countries and in Afghanistan it is a public holiday for the biggest dog fighting day of the year, apparently by the end of the day 100,s of dogs are killed and maimed. Religiously sanctioned animal abuse is stil abuse. When the taliban came to power in Afghanistan, the pets were rounded up and taken from peoples houses and burned on a large pyre by the religious zeolots. I read a book about a family who managed to smuggle their dogs out just before the dog killings began. The koran however has a subclause about dogs, it says about all dogs being unclean except Salukis, who are classed as the hound of Allah and not really dogs but something very special and quite okay to share a tent with. Err, no. You're friend is putting the cart before the horse. The dogs'ears are cropped off because (as your friend would have noticed) there are no vets within cooee; cropping the ears prevents injury and infection. NB: There has always been dog fighting in Afghanistan. From the time there were shepherds with sheep there were fights between dogs. Common sense would indicate that severing a dog's ears is most definitely not to prevent infection esp. dogs with prick ears. Feeble excuse I'm afraid. Common sense and research could also prove that circumcision of little boys does nothing but it still goes ion in "civilised" countries! ;) there is not a lot of common sense in the world wherever you go!~ I would love to know what kind of research has taken place to prove that circumcision of little boys does nothing? I think it goes a long way towards cleanliness - that is my experience, not on a personal basis as I don't have anything hanging between my legs but via....well, you know what I mean am not debating this topic read it on the net!! lol Been researched as much as the anti and pro tail docking! lol

  5. I have some GOOD NEWS ON the British Bulldog I was trying to rehome after a family tragedy. The dog has been rehomed to a family who are immigrating to Australia in the next few weeks, who have to leave the BB at home as the arlines wont transport the dog due to breathing problems and age. The family are excited and ideal as having experience with the BB will make great parents, what a happy ending to a very sad story. J
  6. Thats absolutely disgusting I do hope Karma intervenes and acts, and people wonder why some "breeders" get a bad name no better than puppy farmers ( as in money farmers!)
  7. and YOU know WHAT they say when U ASS U ME!!
  8. Very sad to us but to them as its part of their culture they cannot see it was wrong or sad. When I workde the Passive Alert Narcotic Dog I had to be mindful of Muslims as if the dog touched any part of them or their clothing they were bound by tradition and religion to wash 7 times and perform a ritula thingymajig! Different cultures have certainly interesting views, imagine what they must think of us when we dress up little dogs and put them in handbags, or poof and spray up hair and march around a grass ring with a bejewelled lead! Lol J
  9. Yay Gidgegannup, my old hunting ground and where I grew up! Well not far away in Mt helena! lovely spot the hills j
  10. I saw a maremadoodle in the paper on the weekend for $1500 now that is Bloody expensive and thats a cross breed!! I am sure the Bulldog prices ( as would most Pure Bred Prices) reflect the hard work and time some breeders have put into their lines and no doubt their blood sweat and tears as well.

  12. A bit off topic but if anyone here is looking for a BB female I have one available 2 years old vacc sterilised etc. Please email me [email protected] if intersted in providing a home for this terrific dog who needs a home due to tragic circumstaces ( No rescue groups) just a great home.
  13. Dogmad I am so sorry for your loss of Sally, but remember she had a great last few years and I bet they were the best of her life, people like yourself that take on the wonky wobbly old fatties that nobody wants, are granted so much love from them others that overlook them really miss out BIG TIME because they never share that rare love that they so freely give. Hugs to you and run free all day and every day Sally at that great big bridge in the dog Sky xoxoxox

  17. Thats a BIG BRAG ( well I think it should be ) well done Kizzy and Nic and Myzchev, that agility is awesome and the people who compete are amazing. Well done
  18. Congrats Emmy and Lisa great effort Drumbeat as I said talk to Sylvia she is the Manager
  19. Please dont be put off I would give Sylvia a call and ask to speak to her personally, I have done so in the past on a few different issues, they are very genuine, just a group of ladies who have been doing this kind of work for an awfully long time ( I KNOW its no excuse for rudeness) but when I used to deal with them in the eighties they were old they must be in the eighties by now lol! I am happy to make an anonymous call on your behalf if you like ? J
  20. Yes I have adopted from there, believe it or not they are very nice people, uts just the initial "hump" please go again with anything you need, or speak to Silvia ( the manager) explain your circumstances and they are very reasonable, they are just extra fussy where there dogs go ( in a nice way) That Haven has been around for many many years ( I adopted a dog from there in 1984 ) and it had been there for ages then! lol There customer service could be better I agree but really they are a great bunch. J
  21. Thats the old JED writing again, your spirits have lifted and the whole thread is teary again! Keep up the great work Jed, your friends and yourself are doing a great job in the recovery process.
  22. SK maybe PM Artur he has the Dutch Sheps and I believe he was heavily involved in their recognition here in Australia.
  23. Suggest what you think to the owner of the SWFs , its a hrad one, at least the owner of the attacking dog was out looking for it ( accidents happen) they obviously are thoughtful people in asking if the SWFs were ok ( They didnt hace to). maybe its a lesson they have learned maybe not. I personally would leave it up to the owners, some people dont want to get involved etc ( and really without knowing all the circumstances its a hard decision to make. Great work in helping the lady and the dogs. Without you kbnowing all the facts there is little the Rangers can do anyhow, they need factual evidence to persue, maybe chat to the owners again ?? and encourage them ?
  24. Naw, nothing I did was newsworthy, my dogs, my responsibilty, and I loved them so there was no choice to be made. Its not about news worthy Jed its about courage and doing whats right and YOU did all that! and gave so much, you will never know how many people you have cheering you on because to many you are a bloody hero in the whole sage ( Kissindra need your help to put what I am trying to say into words!) You have fought back and made remarkable progress and probably single handedly made DOL a closer knit family and me for one take a good hard look at all that I have and all that I do, so I am very thankful for your courage. Sorry to hear you are being released and hope in a way its a step closer to recovery xoxoxo
