  4. In metro SA most council districts are OFF LEASH under effective control, only areas designated/sign posted ON LEASH require your dog to be so. Different rules apply to each state so dont be so quick to judge people by your own state laws. Well done Poochy
  5. Monah, Chris G referred Gracie to Penny Tisdall for a spiral fracture re-repair and also a knee reconstruction. She definitely does ortho on large breeds and she does an excellent job. Mark Tonzing is the other Ortho at the clinic also quite capable, he did Gracie's other knee ETA: With regards to the stewing steak, I can top that They hand fed Gracie BBQ chicken from the local chicken shop because I told them she is allergic to red meat . She wouldn't eat the dry food they were trying to feed her, she kept pushing the bowl back under the cage at them.
  6. http://www.vetreferrals.com.au/index.html Open 24hrs for emergency and has the added bonus of specialists throughout the day. Very nice people to deal with. I have used Anzac Hwy and Golden Grove emergency clinics and wouldn't recommend them for a pet rock.
  7. When looking for ETHICAL registered breeders these are the first things I look for: Don't advertise entire litters on main reg. Usually have some form of desexing contract for limited reg puppies. Happily discuss and show results of relevant health tests. There are other things I also consider but those three are my starting point.

  10. Gracie was in for 4 days with the fracture, she came home with morphine patches on, pain killers and valium to keep her quiet. After care was just to make sure the wound looked nice and healthy, no swelling etc. We were given a 2 page essay on what had been done and a list of do's and don'ts. Feeding was just what we normally fed her but I cut it back a bit to allow for the chew things.
  11. Crate and lots of chew things. We used a towel to make a sling and placed it under Gracies chest to take the weight off her front legs. She is a big girl so it took two of us to hold her up for toilet breaks. I kept the crate in my bedroom away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Most of the time she spent sleeping due to the pain meds (first 2 wks).
  12. Yep my DDB does the same. She wont drink if its shallow and when she comes up for air, water squirts all over the place. She also keeps a mouthful for spitting across the floor as she walks. We were using a bucket but we now use those plastic camping sinks.
  13. They use Phenol formaldehyde, Melamine fortified urea formaldehyde and Urea formaldehyde to make plywood. Hopefully its the plywood and Grover is now on the mend
  14. There are also "the many others" you wont see as they no longer go there. I merely told of one of my experiences with this practice not those of my family, friends or neighbours who no longer go there due to their own experiences.
  15. Have to agree with Fevah in regards to Fulham. They diagnosed Gracie with cherry eye ( nothing wrong with her eyes ), I was there because she had an ear infection. They told me nothing wrong with her ears but insisted they needed to treat the cherry eye, cut a long story short, few choice words and off to Chris Girling to get some drops for her ears. Thought I'd save on fuel and the half hour drive, but never again, not even for the simple things.
  16. http://www.snopes.com/glurge/abbey.asp It's a true story and it's nice to know that there are still people who take the time to prove it.
  17. I pay $36 p/m for $15k per year, my excess is a $100 per accident/illness, lifetime cover for the illness/accident so I never pay any excess again and no exclusions for a select breed, which is what I own. A small price to pay when you consider that a fracture repair cost $4,800, the plate snapped and had to be re-repaired by a specialist using both pins and a plate costing a further $4,600. Is it worth it? for me yes. There's no way I could have forked out $9,000 in less than 2wks. I ummed and ahhed over continuing the insurance because I knew I could cover the basics, thank Dog I followed my breeders advice ;)
  18. Back to back litters from a bitch you were going to desex? unfknblvbl If your that worried about your puppy machine's milk drying up, try looking in the breeders forum
  19. There are a couple of vets in Adelaide that don't charge a consult fee unless treatment is provided. My mother (she's a worry wart) takes her cocker to them. Not a bad idea, gives people peace of mind. I think they charge around $50 for the consult if treatment is provided.
