They were taken from the owners home....that is all I know. Whether they were inside or out, one would hope our dogs would be safe if they are contained within our own properties....It now leaves me worried every time I walk out my front door,... do I take all my dogs with me evey time I go out just so they are safe from these people? yes it is a bit of a worry thats why i asked what the story was. whereever i move to, i always hide my dogs actually and don't let on to the neighbors about them really. when they do discover them by my dogs ofcourse barking, one day they did, they asked what breed and i said oh just cross breeds. they go they are really attractive dogs, i thought damn it i got caught out, so i happened to be moving so then started fresh somewhere else. we tell all our puppy buyers don't leave your dogs out inthe backyard unattended, better to leave in the house our breed, they aren't a yappy breed so dn't alert too many people their presence. we had one couple tell us that their Cav got stolen out of the backyard a few years ago, actually recovered the dog, then he was taken again. now they want a dog smaller, a chi to have inside. but really if people want your dogs they can easily break windows and get in, although it helps when you have a whopping big dog roaming the house that doesn't like strangers lurking about. also nosey neighbors that are home all day does help too.

German Shepherd Died In Tragic Accident
toy dog replied to Riley'n'Mia's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Kynan Yes it was the kong with the hole in it tennis ball sized everyone said it was a 1 in a million chance of this happening and Riley had played with it at the park at least 4 days a week for at least 2½ years but I will NEVER let any dog Mia now or other dogs I may have in the future play with one of these again they get so slippery with the dogs spit. I couldn't get a grip on it I tried putting my fingers in the hole, rolling it around so he could breath through the hole anything I could think of but we just ran out of time and of course he was biting me whilst gasping for air through the whole ordeal. Thank you to everyone for their thoughts and prayers I will explain to Audrey that Riley has died and is not asleep hopefully that will make things a little easier for us all. His ashes came home yesterday and I can't even bring myself to look at them yet Mat has put them in the spare room until I am ready to let him go. ;) you poor poor lady. thats is awful. it sounds like these kong things are a dangerous toy to have. what do they look like? i have a kong for my pointer cross but i am seriously thinking of ditching it now. -
they shed mainly twice a year, for their summer and winter coats. i don't know about badboyz but we find that the little hairs do stick into the clothes and if they are blonde chis they tend to stand out too particularly on my office clothes and only notice it when i am in the office on my black skirts and black cardigans and tops. lol just like normal dogs really no difference there.

Thanks I will have to look into getting him some glucosamine as he gets older I'd start now, also Fish Oil,don't wait until there is cartiledge damage/loss & bone, look into shark capsules also. You may find that some Glucosamine could have Chondrotin sulphate(shark cartiledge)I read where the Sulphate helps their body absorb the Glucosomine.I have spent days this week looking at what this all means & how it all works. Most good pet stores will sell the Glucosamine,Fish oil most likely supermarkets.I also found that AUS prices were much more expensive than my having them sent from USA.I found a very good site called Lucky Vit.com prices excellent plus very informative as to exactly what ingredients were in any-thing,and its use etc It would be great if there was a tab or capsule that had everything in one of all the above plus a product called Zeel and or Traumeel for osteoarthritis which our darlings can get from Patella & Hipdysplasia problems.I posted in the open discussion a few weeks ago about my 18 month old Chi Bindie who has H.D. I hope this has been of help to you & perhaps others who may read this,I wish I'd known about all the above before my vet attempted H.D. operation. If some-one else is using the medications above I would like to hear that there is some good news for me to look forward to with Bindie.I also have my lot on the BARF diet & I am thrilled that they ALL love it. having written an article on PL and getting data from various breeders around the country for several years now, i have not heard of a chi having HD it is not very common in our breed. is this a pure chi we are talking about? im sorry i have to ask this question for clarification. i had an 11 month old chihuahua given the all clear on his PL grading but a bit loose, and then from 11 months to about 14 months he was graded again after being put on glucosomine and calcium liquid every day and exercised daily also, he went from half grading in one leg to zero again. I thought i was home and hosed so took him back at 18 months of age he developed grade 3 PL in one leg. was still on the glucosomine so it sort of slowed the process down and helped. talking to the MFCOA (mini foxie club of Australia) they have said that they notice the dogs that get heaps of exercise and allowed to build up muscele in the legs as opposed to the ones that get penned al lthe time, their legs seem more sounder, so exercise, diet does help these affected dogs in some way.

in the gazette every month i read about some breeders getting fines from the VCA or having their m/ship suspended because they've bred a bitch too many times or under age. they name and shame the people and its been many that i've known for lots of years too.
-
thats why the VCA were calling on members to put forth ideas on how to deal with puppy farmers within our ranks. thats why they have this forum coming up at Bulla on the 24th of Oct? so it looks like they are trying to manage this issue and need members input. i believe that many wrote in to CEO and others and asked VCA to do something about farmers in the registered circle and this is their response to it all. it would be good if the VCA also put in why they have chosen to not participate in the rally to its members instead of just saying, we have chosen not to participate and no explanation, :D i totally agree

oh gees poor lady! you'd think with a horse someone would have seen something in a paddock, its not like a horse can be hidden away......these days i think its the case of people not wanting to get involved so don't bother to inform anyone really.

i really think it wasn't fair that the steward wouldn't let me in, when the class wasn't on yet, i paid 20 something dollars like everyone else to be there, and he didn't let me in the line up to go into the bloody ring. i should have written them a letter complaining about that. there was still enough time for me to get inbetween the other ladies but he just wouldn't let me in!!! thats put me off entering again after that experience it was soooo badly run

dont give up, remember my two puppies that were stolen a few years ago? some three months later one was found wandering beside a 3 lane highway 30 k's away. luckily the finder took her to their vet and i was phoned within minutes of them scanning her. that night i couldnt sleep wondering where her sister was and went onto trading post. n what do i see??? her sister in a full colour add. not only got her back but her purchaser, led us to the people who stole her and their arrest and conviction. turned out they were professional house breakers (ie already and three pages of charges n convictions, n at the time think it was 6 arrest warrants out for the hubbby) who decided the puppies looked a quick and easier target. they had come all the way from campbelltown to "work" n sold em at their local market. when i took them to my vet for a checkup he told me of the lady whose stolen champion that had dissappeared from her home 3 years before, had turned up at a vets for stitches, the vet was one who routinely scanns all incomming patients, n discovered the dog was listed as stolen and called the police. pity more vets dont do that eh? from what i read on another thread, the police don't take stealing dogs as serious :D even with all the media coverage they are still no closer to retreiving the dog by the sound of it. no one has said anything to any possible leads.

where were the dogs taken from? the owners house? backyard? always makes me worry when i hear things like this.
-
was that shown nationally or just in SA? can't seem to find it online.

THE pet shop industry has countered calls for the Queensland government to ban stores from selling kittens and puppies. A petition tabled in state parliament on today and signed by 2597 people outlined what it called the "cruel practice" of selling cats and dogs in pet shops. It says unwanted pets were often put down after spur-of-the-moment purchases and Queensland should follow the lead of other countries that have banned pet shops from selling cats and dogs. "Animals are often purchased by ill-informed people who later discard their pet when they realise that pet ownership is not as easy or cheap as they thought," the petition says. "... Your petitioners request the House to ban all pet shops from selling cats and dogs." In 2008, the Government introduced a code of conduct designed to lower the numbers of unloved pets. The code encouraged pet shops to ensure animals went only to suitable homes. Under it, prospective owners were to be talked through the responsibilities of pet ownership and whether a pet matched that person's lifestyle. It was also aimed at ensuring all cats and dogs were microchipped and desexed before they reached breeding age. Spokesman for the Pet Industry Association (PIAA) Roger Perkins said a ban on pet stores selling puppies and kittens would be short-sighted. "Of the total number of dogs sold in Australia, only 10 per cent are sold in pet shops," he said. "If we want to cut out unethical and inhuman practices we need to look at how breeders are selling illegally over the internet and in newspaper ads. "There's some rogue operators in the industry and we want to get rid of them." Mr Perkins said PIAA represented about 40 per cent of the 1200 pet shops in Australia and its members followed a strict code of practice. "Our members buy responsibly and sell responsibly," he said. "The average time (animals) are kept in shops is two weeks. "We strive very hard to make sure puppies are given the right home ... Our members offer a cooling-off period. It may be ... a week. Under our code of conduct they must offer a return policy." Mr Perkins said it was an inaccurate perception that puppies bought in pet stores were labelled impulse purchases. "I don't know how many things you buy that cost $800, that you go into a store and just walk out with," he said. "It's a very considered decision. Often a family will come back two or three times and they will be given very detailed instructions." He said it was in the pet shop owner's interest to match families to the right dog or cat. "They want repeat business. The supplies that flow from the purchase of an animal, whether it be food or other items, are an important source of income for the pet shop." He said introducing compulsory microchipping in all states would help crack down on illegal puppy trading and reduce the number of abandoned animals. WA, SA and NT do not have compulsory microchipping laws. Tasmania has recently brought in mandatory microchipping laws which come into effect next July. actually saw this with a guy down carrum station with his SWF down thompson road one of the busiest roads. i was pretty angry to see him do it, poor little dog. he put a lead on the dog when he went across the pedestrian crossing though but then took it off. i feel like going up to people like that and saying "excuse me, do you realise its a $200 or more fine for having your dog off lead like that?"
-
my brother walks one of his goldens off lead and despite me telling him not to do it he still does it, i can't convince him otherwise. one day we were walking along a street and out of nowhere a young driver hoons around the corner, my brothers dog was on the road so he called her back. i've cut and pasted this thread to try and convince him, it only takes a second and pru could have been further on the road! he says the same thing, she is great at recall and is perfectly trained, all my dogs no matter what breed have always been on a lead they never come off it when they are out and about. safety first!!

the melbourne royal last year was complete and utter chaos. yes they said that we had to have them on display at all times but they also did not have adequate caging for the dogs in our area. there was just bays nothing else. when it came time to go to the area to show, everyone took their trolleys and then we sat in the assembly area with wall to wall people, when it came time for my dog to go into the ring i missed my call due to not being able to get through the wall to wall traffic, i missed it by 30 seconds the steward would not allow me to go in even though my class was not being judged yet. on the way there i got abused by two old ladies i was politely trying to get to the assembly area but did not make it. in my opinion badly organised and no security whatsoever, open bays so we didn't know this was going to be the case, it had just been done up after we all got the arse out of there (dogsvictoria) the year before and for years, they'd always had cages for the dogs to be put in. we don't really like entering royals, when we do, we always make sure the two of us are there (my mother and me) so we can cover each other when we want to go to the loo or whatever, not for even a second do we take our eye of our dogs and on occasion, having a tiny breed i've even taken my dog to the loo with me. lol i know you aren't supposed to do it.......but there is no one there to tell you otherwise.

poor little dog! they are the innocents in all this....

this is just what i got sent to my private email address just a few minutes ago about the rally, i think it clarifies alot ? we have some exciting updates for you on our close puppy factories campaign, including we now have almost 30,000 signatures! But that's not all... Melbourne has a rally this weekend and your support will help us put an end to puppy factories. Puppy Factory Awareness Day Rally - this weekend! This weekend on the steps of Parliament House, the RSPCA will be joining other animal welfare organisations at a public community rally to show our government that Victorians will not allow puppy farming to continue. PLEASE JOIN US and thousands of other like minded people, so we can be a collective voice for the dogs and puppies in these mass-producing factories.

Hmm... I'm not so sure this is accurate. I can only speak for the UK, but shops weren't 'banned' from selling puppies & kittens, it was just that the public backlash was such that it was never fashionable to sell them: This place is in outer London... www.coulsdonpets.co.uk and Harrods is famous for its live animals sales... Because of this cultural difference, they don't have less puppy farms, they simply have a bigger 'direct-to-consumer' market. Google uk puppy farms, and I think you'll find references to huge problems with imported puppies coming from overseas, brokering and Internet sales. http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/the_p_wo...000/7500521.stm Why do they kill less? I'd suspect there's much fewer pets generally (I don't have the figures, but Australians keep a LOT of pets) and more people probably keep 'apartment friendly' pets, like cats. Also, if you've ever watched 'it's me or the dog' - dogs live inside, in terraced houses & flats with little or no backyard. Having to 'walk' the dog without fail, leads to better socialised dogs, who are more included in daily life, more acceptance of dogs in public places and a strengthened bond between pet and owner. Here's one I saw in a pub! http://yfrog.com/n872gzj Finally, the big orgs - Dogs Trust and the RSPCA have no kill policies. Some BSL and the like, but an overall commitment that healthy pets get homes. wasn't talking about the UK was talking about norway, my friend was a well known judge in that country many years back, haven't spoken to her for about 12/13 years now, this was when i first went online back in 1997.

I agree with all this, too. Some stupid, ignorant people and their stupid, ignorant comments! Many of us in the dog-show world take better care of, and give more time to, our dogs, than some people do their children! As for comments on leaving the dog alone, all of us ask someone to mind our dogs for a short time whilst we go to the toilet, take our dogs to the toilet, or go for food. I have never left my own without trying to leave a trusted friend watching them, but sometimes, no-one that we know is available, so we are left to trust fellow exhibitors. This is just how it is when you are exhibiting all day. You can take your own food, but unless you are going to pee in a bottle or let your dogs mess where they lay, you will have to leave them at some stage. We don't always have a family member interested enough to help us out all day, either. I hope that if someone was asked to watch this little dog, that they feel terrible now, and I hope fervently that Harry is found safe and well. So sorry, Kylie. well you see, to me its not making much sense, they tell me that there were exhibitors opposite, and the dog would have been writhing around in his cage trying to get away from this guy, so anyone with enough sense would realise its not his dog, so why didn't the people opposite say or do something? apparently too the gates were closed by security as soon as they'd be notified the dog was missing but they never still caught the guy he must of slipped through somewhere. apparently he was going through the crowd the dog biting him and he was yelling at people who wanted to pat the poor mite, No!! and then running away. i mean if you saw a dog biting a person you would know its not their dog??? the guy sounds like he's not all there to do this. surely someone has seen something in their neighbors backyard though in Adelaide area? all quiet on the western front. all they would have to do is ring crimestoppers if they see anything unusual no matter now small as stated on the DogsVic website.

what did you have in mind?
-
it sure did work when they banned live pet sales in shops in europe many years ago. had a friend tell me that as a consequence there were no shelters as the only way you could buy a dog was from a registered breeder of purebred dogs in the KC. shelters and dogs in need were not heard of over there in that country. so banning certainly did work. some people just don't want to be educated no matter how much information you tell them either, some people think they know better.
-
I heard the same thing, it only affects those in the wrong doing and if you are an ethical responsible registered breeder they make provisions? thats my understanding anyway. it just sounds like no one from the RSPCA has gone into the dogworld with eyes open, it looks like they have gleaned all information from the UK doco when it has been stated many times that here in this country we do things alot differently to UK. i just think it is incredibly uneducated of them to state about inbreeding and exagerated breed standards when RSPCA people aren't in that area of expertise at all.
-
oh ok thats alright then yes it was very quiet you could almost hear a pin drop! the way the sign was worded "intensive dog breeding" i honestly thought that could mean only one group of dog breeding people i.e. puppy farms. thats a sigh of relief thanks for clearing that up.
