Nah, I haven't read it. I don't have very high opinions of Frawley, he is one of my least favourite trainers on the web. I wish I could send back everything I bought from him and get refunds

Failing To Comply With Known Command
Just Midol replied to CoffeeChoc's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah, that's a better way to put it. I just shorten it down to this: But then that offers no real explanation as to why it is important to do it in multiple environments under different distractions. -
Errr, I got distracted last night. Promise I'll finish tonight

Yeah Erny, my views pretty much align with yours. I just wanted to see if anyone actually knew of him and what he does but it appears as though he is a bit of a nobody trying to be somebody, and failing.

Who the hell is Steve Leigh? I keep coming across him bagging out other trainers yet he doesn't actually give any information as to who he is, his experience or anything really! I mean, he has a site dedicated to attacking other trainers & there is a site dedicated to attacking him. So, does anyone know who he actually is and whether he has ever actually accomplished anything? From what I can gather, he attacks anyone who disagrees with table training.

Can someone explain how you teach your dog agility and speed when doing lure coursing or is it something the dog naturally learns by themselves?

Our instructors were great. It did get a bit muddled due to missing half a day but everything still made sense.

Failing To Comply With Known Command

I really think that idea that every time you take your dog somewhere you are back to basics is highly misleading, and if anything, damaging. My dogs have only learnt in 3-4 environments, yet they have generalised that across everything. I guess working up the distractions in my main training environment (at home) then went to 3 others under low distractions and they've generalised. They might not generalise from one environment, but they do generalise. You shouldn't need to proof it in every new environment you enter. -

Dogs can shut down from anything, it isn't limited to a prong collar. Not targeting this at you Nekh, I know you'd know this but just making it clear to others who might come away thinking prongs are evil. -
I still have to type it up. Luckily it was at the back of my notebook and not the front as Gizmo ate the front. I guess I can type it up over night Herr Rottweiler, the unbias view is probably the best thing about the course (excluding all the knowledge we gain of course). It's the reason I chose the NDTF over the Delta course.

Great idea. I'd rather do this first. -
I'm not a behaviourist, but if it was seperation anxiety I would have suspected that he would have had symptoms when you leave even if he is in the main yard. Try posting in the training forum, but imo, this is not sep anxiety. I believe he is attention seeking. Have you ever let him out of the run while he is whimpering or given any attention? I don't mind if my dog jumps around and vocalises as I approach the run but if he is barking or whining and I am inside, I won't even move to where he can see me till he has settled down (so really, a minimum of 5-10 minutes of quietness).

Failing To Comply With Known Command

Just wanted to know how big she was (for no reason at all) If I was you I don't think I'd correct yet. I'd move into new environments and do some training in new environments without doing it on the walk (Just to be 100% sure she knows what you expect). If you have done this, then I'd start punishing for disobedience but seeing a trainer will be the best idea. They're not too expensive and will help a great deal. -
Ohhh, not really my kind of sport. But everything I read just said release the dogs and let them chase. Seemed like an odd thing to call a sport

Lmfao. You wouldn't say it like that "I organised a dog training seminar with multiple of Australias leading dog experts attending." sounds way cooler.

I don't smack my dogs at all anymore. Hard to say what is appropriate. I use a prong collar, but there are a range of options. If I was you, I'd try and see a local trainer for just a session and find out what tool they think is the best, whether they think one is required & they'll show you what level corrections to apply - ohh, also how to apply one properly with the tool. But like I said, I use prong collars. What breed? -
Failing To Comply With Known Command
Just Midol replied to CoffeeChoc's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Won't happen. She will learn that listening to you means she avoids the correction so she is even more motivated to obey. The motivation isn't high enough. Assuming she does know what you're asking but choosing not to because something else is more fun. Motivation includes the reward and the punishment she'll avoid if she complies. Personally, I'd keep doing what you are doing and/or introduce corrections. Common. My dogs aren't motivated by much at all either. I have to stress, do NOT correct unless you are 100% certain she knows what you're commanding. -
Lmao. Huski, wouldn't this be something you'd enjoy as it'd look good on a resume for a marketing job  I'd offer to organise it but I'd have no idea where to start, or end.

How Can I Get My Puppy To Go On Walks With Me?
Just Midol replied to fishy fishy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sure. -
From my brief research it appears that there is very little to no training involved in lure coursing. Is there?
-
Lmao. We got a bit less on check chains though, because of the fires. Are you allowed to redo it?
-
Hijack away  ETA: Erny, you has a PM about the head collars too

Attacking Through What Appears To Be Jealousy

Hmmm, okay then. Oops, that appeared to be a smart arse reply. I was trying to acknowledge that I read your post. Thanks  -
Attacking Through What Appears To Be Jealousy
Just Midol replied to Ojay's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Why a vet behaviourist? The only thing a vet behaviourist can do over a normal behaviourist is prescribe medication, from what ojay said what made you think medication would be required? -
I feed my dogs heaps of things on the "bad" list. That list is mostly, imo, a load of shit. It attempts to scare people in to moving away from foods completely rather than using commonsense. Most of them, imo, are like peanuts in humans. Some are effected, some aren't. I also feed chocolate occasionally as a treat. If I want to give him a few M&Ms or a Malteser then I will, it's not going to harm him. Dogs, especially large dogs with slow metabolisms need a huge amount of normal milk chocolate to be even remotely harmful. It's a lot more than 10g/kg, and it depends on whether you believe the figure of 100-200mg/kg of Theobromine released by scientific studies or the 20mg/kg released by the ASPCA.
