  1. It's not necessarily the deep sea fish, any of the fish higher up in the food chain. Most of them are deep sea fish, but many shallow water species also have the problem.
  2. I've always just gone for distraction, it's all you really can do other than physically moving both dogs.
  3. Thanks all for your suggestions. Now to cut my order down a bit. $904 US
  4. I've never seen a Turkey leg I want a Turkey leg I've got a chest freezer in the kitchen for the dogs. I just fill it up whenever I cbf going to the butcher. I've run out of bones though
  5. I'm putting in an order @ dogwise shortly and my main focus with this order is Dog Aggression, Genetics, some health stuff, Dog Anatomy, Head Collars & the evolution of dogs Does anyone have any recommendations for good Aggression books or DVDs on dogwise that I can order? The ones I am eyeing off: CANINE FEAR, AGGRESSION AND PLAY DVD - Jean Donaldson AGGRESSION IN DOGS - PRACTICAL MANAGEMENT, PREVENTION & BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION - Brenda Aloff CONSTRUCTIONAL AGGRESSION TREATMENT - SHAPING YOUR WAY OUT OF AGGRESSION DVD, 2ND EDITION - Dr. Jesus Rosales-Ruiz and Kellie Snider AGGRESSION IN DOGS SEMINAR DVD SET - Brenda Aloff DOG-DOG AGGRESSION SEMINAR DVD - Patricia McConnell Then these which aren't aggression but sort of come into the same realm which I am also looking at: THE LANGUAGE OF DOGS - UNDERSTANDING CANINE BODY LANGUAGE AND OTHER COMMUNICATION SIGNALS DVD SET - Sarah Kalnajs AM I SAFE? - THE ART & SCIENCE OF CANINE BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENTS DVD SET - Sarah Kalnajs So, if any of these are complete crap or you know of a DVD/Book I'd be better off getting (but it has to be from dogwise) then let me know! Try not to recommend the most expensive stuff on the site, dog education material is bloody expensive. I swear this has to be the most expensive hobby ever. Hopefully one day I can make some of this money back
  6. Huski, I thought you said turtle legs and was about to rip into you for feeding your dogs turtles
  7. I agree. I've never fed my dogs 3 meals. Actually, I cut back to 1 meal at about 4 months as well which is a shitload earlier than most.
  8. I've always changed food instantly with my sibes. They've never had any trouble with instant food changes. Some do it gradually to prevent upset stomachs, but in sibes my experience is you don't need to.
  9. aacs, do you know what brand of roo it was. Huskyheaven, roo is just lean with very little fat. My sibes put on weight uber easily so it suits them well. A piece of roo tail is an entire meal. The bag comes with 5 pieces so 5 meals for $4 as they actually consume the tail bone.
  10. If you're going to be in Gympie doing one then I shall come (assuming I've gotten my dogs to a decent level of obedience).
  11. Ummmm. With Huskies I'd try and not feed too many wings unless you're certain they chew them. Mine do chew them so I am fine with feeding them. My male husky gets two and the girl gets three (and that's their food for an entire day). Do you have trouble keeping weight either on or off? I am about to shift to Kangaroo with both the sibes as their food intake is ridiculously low yet they still keep gaining weight. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, IGA has decent Kangaroo & Roo tail. $4/kg for the roo and the same for the tails. I also go to a butcher who I get bulk quantities of beef + chicken pet mince for the shepherd @ $1.00/kg and I get my wings there for $2/kg, human grade mince for $4/kg (but I'm moving from this to kangaroo) and chicken frames vary - usually free as I buy a shitload at a time. They also give me fish heads for free or very cheap depending who is on. ETA: Huskies have uber low metabolisms so if you switch to 100% barf then you'll only be feeding about 250-400grams TOTAL each day to start with imo I feed 180 & 250 to the two sibes.
  12. Lmao, you made that sound as though you weren't going to go if your OH wanted to.
  13. Pretty sure you get them from the dogwise site? I think you linked me them once. I'm planning a big order once I get back to work for Aggression dvds and books so will chuck his dvds into the cart as well. Just to make sure, it is these ones, right: http://www.dogwise.com/ItemDetails.cfm?ID=A137
  14. Been meaning to get the Balabanov DVDs. Will grab em when I get a next load of them. I'll watch more of his DVDs (leerburgs), I just won't pay for them.
  15. I've got a digital copy on my laptop, he definitely says "This is the level we'll use" and then the screen flashes saying "stem too high". He uses the e-collar differently to us anyway, he uses it on medium rather than low and considers low level -r to be cruel and old school.
  16. About $25 a week for my three dogs, will go up again as I am moving one dog to a kangaroo diet.
  17. I differentiate them as well, but cruelty is cruelty whether it is done to a poodle or a rottweiler.
  18. I don't need to live with the man. I've seen how he treats dogs in his DVDs and the methods he uses. If he doesn't advocate the methods, don't demonstrate them in his videos. He constantly pushes his DVDs, and at multiple occasions in his DVDs he doesn't explain things he simply refers you to another DVD which means if you want to understand what he is saying you're required to buy another DVD. When I asked questions relating to his DVDs via email he referred me to other DVDs he sold rather than answering what I now know to be rather simple questions that could have been answered in 2 lines. He hits dogs over their heads with shovels in order to cure dog aggression. I've never heard of that being an accepted form of rehabilitation. Can you comment on that Tony? What would you say if I hit Montu (a hard dog) over the head with a shovel because he wouldn't stop barking? Is that an acceptable form of punishment? The man is abusive & going by his personal views has no real value for life. He isn't a man I want to listen to or learn from. I like to keep an open mind, but my open mind has limits. Kelpie & Larael, I'll shoot both of you PM's once I have it done. Could be a while as I'll wait for the other 2-3 dvds to come in.
  19. Will do you a set as well, again, no money needed. Do you guys want DVD player compatable stuff or PC compatable stuff (PC is .avi files.)
  20. I'll rip them over night. A few of them (including the e-collar one which is the worst) is out right now (from lending them in the general thread) but when it gets in I'll do it as well. Don't worry about blanks, they only cost like 20c each anyway Lou Castle has a scathing review of his e-collar dvd on his site as well. Under Articles -> Books and DVDs.
  21. Interesting Midol. I personally don't have too much interest in Leerburg and the fact that he labels everything as a "drive" but why don't you like his work? I believe he is abusive to his dogs, and borders on being a puppy farmer (imo). His DVDs are great, if he isn't the main person in them, actually, they are great if he is not in them at all. The only DVDs I actually liked were the drive related DVDs for Schuhtzhund/Protection but the "pet" type DVDs are riddled with mistakes and inconsistencies which even an amateur like myself can pick up. People make mistakes, but when you're releasing educational DVDs and selling them for a great deal of money mistakes are not acceptable. You can edit mistakes out. In one part of the e-collar dvd (which imo, in this dvd he abuses his dogs) he says on the dvd "This is the level we want to work the dog" and then a caption appears saying this level is too high? Wtf? And that's only talking about his training, I can write even more on him as a person. Have a read of this page if you want to know more about him as a person: http://leerburg.com/war.htm So to summarise: (1) He is a terrible teacher. (2) I think he is abusive. (3) Too many mistakes in his DVDs (the ones which feature him, the bernard flinks ones are great.) (4) I consider him a puppy farmer. (5) He is a terrible person. All in all, imo, he is in it for money and not for the dogs or even to help other people. If he can't make money, he isn't interested. Others might not consider him abusive, I do, he is cruel to his dogs and my personal morals restrict me from buying or supporting someone who is abusive. Kavik, I am more than happy to post you my entire Leerburg collection if you want to watch it, or I can just copy them for you. Don't really care if I break the law copying his DVDs. I have eight of them. http://leerburg.com/qaaggres.htm I don't give a shit what your dog is doing. Hitting it over the head with a shovel is cruelty.
