  1. BARF is not a trademark just an acronym that is why DR B uses Genuine Aussie RAW. Dr B doesn't make his BARF it is made by Bigdog Petfoods. It is a bit like in America where BARFWORLD own the right to DR Billinghurst BARF DIet and they make a BARF.Why not here. The difference is of course that a true barf is not all with chicken bone and beef offal that is why I changed as well to Canine Country BARF so many dogs have chicken allergies . Are you trying to say that real barf has no chicken bones?
  2. Don't worry Jen, you'll cruise through them. I had done it all in 2 days. You doing the Sydney block training?
  3. Nah, I only feed fish we catch. (Well, fish my brother catches.)
  4. Dogs 1km away. How does a clicker distract them?
  5. The thing that always gets me is that those who disapprove of e-collars usually have no issue with desexing. Both make life easier...
  6. Quite a few dogs don't "get" fish. Go grab an entire fish with scales and see if your dogs will eat it. Axle took ages to figure it out.
  7. Definitely need to take in the rest of the body language but the more actions/"tells" that I can interpret the more confident in my evaluation of the behaviour I can be!
  8. I feed all different types of fish heads. Usually my dogs just rip the insides of the head out and eat the eyes then roll around on it.
  9. If the big dog does something wrong remove it (the big dog), fun is gone.
  10. Every bit of information I've read says that a dog being attacked in its fear period will leave a lasting impression, why risk it?
  11. Yeah. but I'm bored. I changed into the SYD block training and the first one was full so I've had like 6 months before my first block training Looking forward to my first block though.
  12. You don't need to worry about corrections at 12 weeks. They come later. Some how I managed to forget how old it was :D Correction = Punishment.
  13. Learning Phase -> Correction Phase -> Proofing Phase
  14. 1) Recall work, if she knows how to recall and chooses not to then you must always be in a position to correct her. You've taught her to recall under no distractions and now you need to retrain her recall under distraction. Same method, use a long line and teach her that even when there is something else she wants to do she HAS to return to you. 2) People don't like their dogs playing with others in parks because quite often the owners are clueless. They don't watch their dogs nor do they pick up on the signs of an impending dog fight. I'd avoid it and just socialise him/her with dogs you know. I take my dogs out before their vaccines kick in. They need to be socialised - I consider it an acceptable risk, others don't and their dogs turn out fine. Personal choice. 15. Hey,nice shopping spree Yeah, it wasn't cheap either! Got a few tugs and stuff as well, they didn't seem to add much to the postage (which is already super high) so took advantage of the good dollar
  16. Dunno, what was the letter? I emailed him the other day asking him what he does with pet vs working dogs (as everyone was telling me differently.) I think that's all I've asked him. ETA: Yep, that was me. But I got more than those in the end
  17. Thanks Kelpie, from memory the NDTF body language bit didn't touch on this but it makes perfect sense. Do you know where she is doing the seminar? I assume it is in Melbourne? I might be able to go down for it but I'd have just had 2 weeks off work for the NDTF course so I'll be pushing it. Will look up the book.
  18. I'm watching Dealing with Dominant and Aggressive dogs right now (leerburg) and he said that the lifting of the front feet is a submissive behaviour. I've never heard this anywhere, on DOL or in my basic research. Is he correct? I know it isn't ALWAYS a submissive behaviour... I have to add this disclaimer every time I post now... Is this GENERALLY a submissive behaviour? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for books on dog to dog communication. I'd prefer a thorough book. Something full of information and not much "filler".
  19. Could it be that he just likes the rain? Lily would lie in the rain if I let her, and Axle used to go out in storms/rain all the time and sleep all day.
  20. I use a clicker, but I am starting to wean myself off it.
  21. Hmmmm. I am sure Steve will post in here so.... Have you ever considered recording the seminars and selling them? Sort of like uni lectures?
  22. Downloaded the pet talk audio but I haven't listened to it yet. midol[at]sibehuskies[dot]com I probably will get the first set of vaccinations, just to be safe.
