  1. Gizmo doesn't get washed unless he needs it. Like when I was away we had a flea infestation... He got washed then.
  2. Hey Lord Midol, I'm bringing my Husky x Golden Retriever pup for the weekend but he's not attending the workshop. All I did was check with Ann at Camp Tailwaggers if it was OK and she said it was fine as long as he wasn't a barker. My hubby & kids will be at the cabin for some of the time so Mojo's going to hang out with them while Hershey and I soak up all the info at the workshop. Mojo is very friendly and thinks he's a bit of a superstar, so anyone is welcome to come over to my cabin to give him some love! Ahhh, I'll email her as well just to be safe. Montu isn't a barker, unless someone walks into the Cabin... Then he won't stop till he is let out of his crate and can investigate.
  3. Bah. I work 10pm->5am on friday night so I won't have much input on Saturday or Saturday night (as I would have been awake for over 32 hours by the night time one).
  4. Hope so. He won't really be able to meet people - well he can but he has to be ignored... Like he doesn't exist. I'm not sure of spot is capable of such a basic thing.
  5. Anyone know if I can bring two dogs (but only one for the seminar.) Mum can't handle Montu (like literally, he has no respect for her.) If not I'll just bring Montu but he'll have to stay at the Cabin.
  6. Ahh, you've nailed it sort of. They don't care much for the chase, or the stalk... But they do it because they know it'll help them get to the item to kill and eat it (Gizmo eats, not sure if Lily does.) We've got chooks here so I'll try some of their feathers.
  7. dogdude, it's possible it's related to their history. I don't know anyones history except Montus here though so can't expand emma, Gizmo eats feathers but wont chase them. lab, Montu is a working like GSD. Giz is a rescue sibe, Lil is from a breeder (sibe).
  8. That's not a problem with food, that's a problem with the way you trained. And I'd never attend a club that didn't embrace all methods of training which is also why I'll never attend a club. If they're worried about people flicking food around then have smaller class sizes. Irresponsible clubs.
  9. Huskies. I'd do it with them, I just cant motivate them to do anything. You'll be able to find partially fenced locations but nothing with full fencing. I'd offer our place but we've got too many trees and no fences (and we're 10 minutes from Nambour.)
  10. I was one of them, and I stand by my suggestion to him. Yeah, just a pity I have trouble keeping my mouth shut
  11. Ohhh, sorry - misunderstanding then. I tend to do that - I don't put enough background information in.
  12. HERE Ahhh. I've owned the collar for months. If I wasn't taking my time I'd have used it by now. I haven't. ETA: Only replying to this because I don't like people lying about me. I won't be posting on here about Montu at all anymore... Unless it's an issue completely unrelated to training. Another stupid comment: "N: What happens if LM is very subtly just a little off the mark. Something a professional trainer can see but he may not." One would hope the professional trainer I'll be seeing once a week would pick up on something I am doing wrong. After all, that's what he is paid for. EDIT: FFS. Steve DID NOT tell me not to discuss the e-collar on here. I don't recall Steve saying ANYTHING related to that. Steve is NOT my trainer for Montu. I saw him for the e-collar. I am not driving 28 hours on a weekly basis. If he was closer then he would be my trainer though
  13. Isn't a correction in the perception? I mean, if you're out in the sun, it gets too hot so you go inside. Do you feel you were punished/corrected by the sun? Or do you feel rewarded because when you went inside it was cool so you felt better? The latter example being of course the negative reinforcement component. I wish I had your way with words I know what I want to say... I just don't know how to put it.
  14. How is that not a correction? The dog doesn't like the sensation so it changes its behaviour to stop it happening again. I use negative punishment, particularly time outs. Time outs work because the dog doesn't like being isolated from the pack. I don't call it "giving the dog some personal space", it works because the dog doesn't like it. Let's not bull**** ourselves. Completely different scenarios. You put your dog in time out AFTER it does something wrong. I turn the stim on BEFORE the command. The dog has done nothing wrong so I am not correcting it for doing something wrong. Terminology. Don't call me a liar. ETA: And the sin bin places more stress on Gizmo than the prong or e-collar ever will. He HATES it.
  15. What type of fence is it? Lily can get over wooden 6ft fences, but not chain link. Does she clear it in a jump or does she climb?
  16. thanks for that info Lord Midol!! Are we going to see you come alone to flyball?? pretty please also do you know the exact address of this area?? does it have a conact sign or anything??? I drive past it every time I work so I'll stop and look next time. I know dogs aren't allowed on the soccer field but I think they can go on the other side. Finding a fenced area near Nambour will be impossible. The only fenced dog park is complete crap. Our best bet would be pestering the council to fence in a bigger block of public owned land. Joe Natoli(SP) was going to fence in more dog parks but he wasn't elected. I wouldn't do flyball as I don't have any dogs which would be willing to do it, but I'd still come along so I can learn about the training that is involved with flyball
  17. "GSDs take a while to mature. Why push it? And like I said why use an E-collar are they going to stimulate the dog into defense earlier by supressing the prey or just use it as a corrective aid?" I'll be following the method Steve from K9Force uses. I don't really consider it a correction. Low stim on, dog complies, stim off. The stim isn't high enough to take the dog out of drive. That's basically how I understood it all squished into one line
  18. Lmao, I can bring a broken dog... But Lily is such a snuggle bum!
  19. In person my vocab consists of: "yeah" "yah" "ah huh" and.... "yep"
  20. Am I going to be the only one with a normal dog there?
  21. Because all those helping me are telling me too. You just seem to be anti anything I do. I find it odd that you seem to think I am doing everything wrong, yet every other experienced security & schuhtzhund trainer I've spoken to has no problem with the speed I am doing it at. And also, the majority of trainers I speak to consider 12-14 months the usual training length. I am starting to see why I was repeatedly warned not to post about Montus training on here. It doesn't matter though, I'll follow the advice of my trainer and those who have been helping me all along.
  22. I was really shocked when I saw how much handler praise motivates Montu. With Axle, he couldn't have cared less if I was happy with him Montu seems to think it's the best thing in the world. Though, as soon as possible I am putting an e-collar on him (minute fear period is over)
