My vet also supports my use of glucosamine + MSM (human formula) plus I add fish oil tabs per day - MUCH cheaper than joint support or sasha's blend etc.....

Anyone with concerns should consider giving Mark Sheppard a call - he is the Govt and Agency Liaison officer with DQ who is responsible for negotiating with the various councils. he has done an excellent job in my area...Moreton Bay....and he's very easy to talk to....phone 0458 065 174, Email: [email protected]

Getting A Dog And Stuck On Breeds, Advice Appreciated
Fit for a King replied to Ozone's topic in General Dog Discussion
thank you Clyde for your input but the OP has also made it clear she will be heavily involved with the dog.....and if something should happen to her folks I would imagine she will end up with the dog.....and again I say as a breeder I wouldn't sell her a guarding breed -
Getting A Dog And Stuck On Breeds, Advice Appreciated
Fit for a King replied to Ozone's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just my 2 cents worth..... If you and your mum are not experienced dog owners I wouldn't opt for any of the traditional guarding/utility breeds - rotties, gsd etc and frankly I wouldn't sell you one as a breeder... Unless you are going to commit to regular attention I wouldn't opt for a coated breed such as a Collie Rough etc - it's too easy to say "oh I'll get to him on the weekend" which then becomes next week and the week after and then you have a matted mess that requires a complete shave off......you REALLY need to think about time commitments - you will be at Uni and then home studying etc....having time with friends....will you fit in a few hours a week to groom? As a few people have said a short coated dog can easily be kept warm with a coat..... In my experience working dogs do need regular exercise - especially when younger....or you have a potentially bored, noisy, destructive dog on your hands.....there may be exceptions but I live in an area where there are a myriad of BCs, ACDs etc all living in their yards, not exercised and many are bored barkers, escpae artists and pests.....I have two working dogs here - luckily I am on acreage and they have the opportunity to run themselves stupid..... I too think a greyhound may be a good fit for your needs...alternately a Golden Retriever - less demanding coat-wise than the full coated breeds, softer in nature than the guarding breeds but will certainly alert you to visitors....still need regular exrcise though.....but in MY EXPERIENCE don;t seem as destrcutive as Labs when young.... -
Bear in mind this is an American product originally so the pics would probably be from the US. IMO the dog is a Briad with cropped ears....The dog that dancinbcs is talking about (I think) is the one doing the pet food ad currently - the wet food in the plastic container...just can't remember the name of it..I can picture the container - has a dry food as well.....imo that dog is a Briard cross....is very light eyed - Briards have a much darker eye...

Do I believe face judging occurs? Absolutely.....I had a recent heated discussion with a judge (nearly all breeds now) who openly admitted she "plays the game" and puts up the dogs she is "expected" to - ie the known faces and known dogs will continue to do so until she reaches all breeds then will put up what she wants to and really thinks is best....as a fellow trainee I was mortified by that admission and told her so......if from the beginning you don't judge the dogs on the day and be true to yourself why on god's earth would you continue? For the glory of being a judge? For the dwindling open show entries when people become disillusioned with you putting up "same old same old" and not thinking for yourself? Will I give this person entries at open or champ show - nope - on principle alone......will I play that game - nope - and if that means that I never elevate so be it....

Showing Breeds In Different Groups?

Mini Schnauzer? Min Pin? -
Lionel told me would be where the showbag pavillion is currently.......with a drop off zone for people to drop dogs and bags before going to park.....my concern with this (and I voiced it) was that it may end up being a lot longer walk to the carpark AND therefore people may need to take an extra person perhaps to wait with gear/dogs etc......I'm not sure they had thought about that....sigh......

and don't forget Bianca was an absolute trooper handling many dogs for people....expertly may I add........ and why would you not be in Brissie next year????????

Thanks BMP...I was very chuffed.... S & D's - I totally agree VBG but then I am very biased!!

My brag is: Own the BOB Bred the RUBOB Own and bred the Puppy of Breed Own and bred the Baby of Breed Own and bred the dog that was second in one of the Sweepstakes VBG
-
Hesapndabear - have you asked council why they made that decision? I would. Anne-Marie Boyd is very approachable and I'm sure would listen to reasoned argument if you wanted to keep more..... I have 2 acres - am permitted for 8 (large breed) but am also aware they will allow me more if I ask.

Breed Suggestions Wanted Please
Fit for a King replied to Sunnyflower's topic in General Dog Discussion
A Briard - they don't call them "hearts wrapped in fur" for nothing.....providing you are prepared for daily exercise.... -
"Very hard :-) should the general public be bringing their dogs to the show? Rules up here state a dog must be entered to be on the grounds. Unless they have permission from the show manager." You'll find that only applies to DQ members - they can't control the general public bringing pets as it is public land.....well owned by RAS but you know what I mean...I personally think it ridiculous that the GP bring their animals to dog shows...can;t see what purpose it serves....

Fit for a King replied to sandgrubber's topic in In The News
If that's a GSD I'm a pygmy.....at best a cross.... But in terms of the story...mixed feelings about gun use but I haver to say I would do whatever it took to protect one of mine from an attack..... -
Southern Ovchaka Leonberger Irish Wolfhound Otterhound Bergamasco Clumber Spaniel I'm definitely a big dog person......apart from the Clumber VBG

The 'worst' Potential Puppy Purchasers
Fit for a King replied to PomsNZ's topic in Breeders Community
I receive an email "I am very interested in owning a dog can you advise the process" I reply "err are you asking specifically about a particular breed or just owning a dog in general?" I receive an email "Yes im interested in the XXXX XXXX" (gets the breed name completely incorrect" I reply (by this time begrudguingly) "err try XXX XXXX - why do you want one?" blissful silence.... I have had people ask me to breed specifically for colour; for a timeframe (so they could go on holidays and come back to a fully house trained older puppy); for a dog that will never get sick - from anything ie genetic, environmental, stupidity etc; for an 8 week old puppy fully house broken and obedience trained....and the list goes on...... I am so over puppy people at present.....current people on this list excepted..... -
Ah Libertybrook I hear your pain.....I still have a person who wants a pup from my current litter but is making all sorts of demands....am at the point of cancelling her off the list and keeping the pup until the right home comes along....she wants to argue why the pup has to be on the LR, wants to argue when it can be desexed, isn't satisfied with my health testing, wants to know why an 8wo puppy can't be hipscored...and the list continues....I have until now tried to be polite - and this is since she changed her mind several times from bitch to dog, from yes taking pup to no need to wait......the more I type the more I realise I just don't want to deal with this woman LOL edited to add that she just called again - still wants the pup (Lord help me) BUT I'll have to keep her here for another few weeks as she is going on holidays.......have said that may not be acceptable and I will need to ponder on it...unbelievable.....
