  1. So Limited Register = Idiot - an interesting interpretation. Tralee - you must be so lucky that not one person who has ever bought a puppy from you has turned out to be not what they seemed or done the worng thing.......and just how many puppies is that pls? ....
  2. I went to a country show last year and saw all the spots ringside roped off. I was told that the keenel club concerned had in fact sold them to various members for their sole use at shows.......over the two days of the show a few spots sat empty - people who "owned" them never arrived but noone else was allowed to set up a gazebo....completely ridiculous.....
  3. I love my neighbours BUT their bloody cats wandering everywhere, yowling in the early hours of the morning and setting the dogs off, killing the local wildlife etc really bloody annoys me.....they won't hear of locking them up or keeping them inside however as the hubbie is not a cat person. I don't agree with this idiot killing them but trapping them and handing them over to council may provoke the owners to do something about their wandering ways.....in our area you now have to register cats but I doubt many people bother...so many cats wander around our end of the street.....
  4. Nope - I don't even let people come to the house to look at dogs until I have met them somewhere neutral and developed a "feel" for them...if I don't get the right vibe they don't come to the house and don't get a dog....
  5. ''Wood Green Animal Shelters The Charity is sad to report that on the advice of our vets we have had to make the extremely difficult and sad decision to end Floyd’s suffering. Floyd was abandoned outside the gates last weekend in one of the worst animal neglect cases ever seen by the Charity. Vets today confirmed that Floyd had been experiencing a great deal of pain which would not respond to treatment. Floyd had severe hip dysplasia and arthritis which meant that walking and even standing would have been very painful for him. He also had a number of other medical issues that were causing him considerable distress. Our only comfort is that in the last week he was given the best care and love from our dedicated staff. We’re so disappointed that no matter what we did, it was too late for us to save Floyd and undo the pain and suffering that he had already endured. Unfortunately, Floyd is not alone in his suffering, every week the Charity is seeing animals that are in pain due to owners not knowing where or how to get the support and help they need before it’s too late. Wood Green would like to take this opportunity to advise pet owners that we understand that pet ownership does present challenges, and whilst the vast majority of people take on pets with good intentions this is not always enough to provide for all of your pet’s needs. The Charity would encourage owners to seek help at the earliest sign of a problem in caring for your pet so as to avoid reaching a crisis situation. Wood Green, like many other animal welfare organisations, offer non-judgemental advice and guidance to existing pet owners and those considering welcoming a new pet into their home. Wood Green are continuing to support the RSPCA’s investigation in seeking justice for Floyd.''
  6. That's it I have done the maths - the Kangal people are satisfied to bring in their own semen and new lines and they are NOT the ones pushing to have the breed brought back togther......seems you just proved my point...the Anatolian people want the lines to further their breeding...........
  7. Lilli - self confidence is one thing...arrogance has a category all of its own..... and your posts smack of arrogance - of the "I know better than anyone else".... I don't believe anyone has the right to make that claim unless they have been in the breed for 50 years, know every pedigree there is and are known world wide in that capacity....everyone else is and should be, learning as one goes about their respective breeds and listening to opinions........the ANKC saw fit to separate the breeds so who are you to say it shouldn't happen?.......as I said that decision is being reviewed and I hope it is reversed....I can't help but wonder whether the Anatolian people are hell bent on getting their hands on the Kangals to get the bloodlines....mmmmm...... As for the breed differences.....why if they are identical are the breed standards different??? Anatolian - All colours acceptable Kangal - The head invariably has a black mask. Body colour ranges from dun to steel grey. A white chest blaze may be present. The Kangal Dog is never white or spotted. Height and weight differences.... Body description different....... People can make up their own minds......I have no intention of continuing to argue with you....let people make up their own minds....and at the end of the day we are all dictated to by the ANKC anyway.......they get the final say......
  8. My understanding lilli that this decision is now under review because of what transpired at the ANKC conference and information now at hand...... As an aside you seem so angry and determined to denegrate anyone who believes they are a separate breed....I really have to wonder why. Unless you are the world authority on the breed and not just a breed enthusiast then let people do what they want to do within the CoE of the ANKC...it really isn't up to you or me to tell them otherwise. There is a separate breed standard which still stands as of this time.
  9. The Giant Schnauzer from Sat night was Gr Ch Wulfgar Royal Finn.....
  10. I have 11 - 8 of whom live with me full time.....all large and coated so lots of grooming....and some more 'spirited' than others making life interesting....
  11. Gayle - it's not a question of the breed as a whole but people's care of their animals.....I know people with DDBs, labs and staffies whose dogs stink even though they are being shown - they are just not bathed regularly - I avoid touching them if possible.....if I'm judging I find an occasional Kelpie, ACD or ASCD who is unwashed...and yes it is very unpleasant.....
  12. OOps - I'm in lala land....I am asking for a friend who just emailed me and told me it was the 16th.....I need to check my diary....will let her know....thanks
  13. Given it is now 16th here anyone know if the free shipping is still in effect?
  14. I have just collected and frozen a 9 yo boy.....still good quantity and quality........he also sired two litters earlier this year.....
  15. It was a great video - the only thing i didn;t agree with was their statement about killing every chimp in the world to save one street junkie with AIDS....mmmmmm
  16. I currently live with 8 dogs, have another of mine coming back next week - all large breed....I have a toy coming in January.....I am solelyresponsible fopr feeding, washing, grooming, exercising etc.....not easy but definitely worthwhile....
  17. I had this discussion with a girl at work recently....was AIing her rottie.....dog is registered (limited register) but she isn't a breeder and has never had a litter....ans has absolutely no clue what to do. She decided to have the litter to recoup monies she spent when the bitch had pyro...I asked why she just didn't desex her at the time...no no had decided a litter was the way to go.....what's worse - no health tests done at all and using an 8mo old dog - also untested and not registered......I got mad then realised it was all falling on deaf ears...sadly I think if she does have pups and nmanages to sell them she will do it again....I asked if she had the $ in case she needed a C-section - she looked surprised and said she didn;t know dogs had to have those......eyes rolling.....

  19. Guys - all fine suggestions based on physical attributes but man there are some huge variations in temperaments......the OP really needs to pin down a little further what sort of temperament he/she wants before then going for looks....
  20. Is she even permitted to have pets? Do you know the landlord? maybe a word in the RE agent's ear might head off the disasterous plan....
  21. "Is there any larger breeders that don't druel or shred excessivley that you can recommend?" I don't know many breeders that drool...albeit after a few drinks anything is possible VBG..... There are large breeds that don't drool but what are your other requirements? And is size all that really matters?
  22. Where is the nearest University Vet school? Is it possible to get in to see someone there????
  23. is there another vet clinic you can consult - perhaps ring and ask if any of the vets at the next surgery have actually treated strangles so know what they are looking for.....
  24. I was present at a conversation at a show on Saturday where a woman spoke to a friend of mine and explained that her daughter's show dog had just died but she couldn't afford to buy her another. Another breeder had apparently given them a puppy but the woman said - and I quote - "It isn't good enough to show but that's okay we'll just breed with it"...god help us.....
