http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/someones-always-watching--internet-vigilantes-spark-privacy-fears-20121016-27oyx.html 'Someone's always watching': internet vigilantes spark privacy fears She was not the sort of dog to stray. So when Buckie the British Staffordshire bull terrier went missing from the driveway of her Bondi home, her owner, Grace Barnes, started searching the streets and beyond. She put up posters offering a $1000 reward for her purebred pup. Her Facebook page – Help Us Find Buckie – has drawn hundreds of people into the hunt, among them a psychic "animal communicator" from Germany. But things took a novel turn when Barnes, a 28-year-old naturopath, spotted a security camera outside a building near her apartment. She approached the building manager, who let her watch and copy CCTV footage from last week that appears to show a boy with short, brown hair in a sports jumper carrying Buckie down the street. Barnes posted the grainy footage on Facebook and a childhood friend who saw it then contacted her with details of someone resembling the young teenager and his secondary school, in Sydney's eastern suburbs. Police plan to interview the boy and his mother today. Advertisement "Someone's always watching, that's the thing to remember. You can't get away with anything these days," Barnes said. But the NSW Deputy Privacy Commissioner, John McAteer, criticised the increased use of social media and CCTV footage by the public to catch alleged criminals. "It's concerning that people would post images of children online without the consent of a responsible adult," he said. "Law enforcement is a matter for law enforcement bodies and members of the public shouldn't be taking matters into their own hands." Social media is being used more often to identify alleged offenders or find people who are missing. Images posted on Facebook of four-year-old Nambucca Heads boy Riley Martin helped find him after he went missing this month. Last month, two thieves who broke into the Annandale Hotel were arrested after CCTV images uploaded to Facebook by the pub's owners were shared thousands of times. Barnes said she hoped only that Buckie came home unharmed. "We have no intention of hurting this kid in any way. We just want to get the dog back," she said. "I think we're a bit beyond privacy in this day and age, aren't we? No one's got any privacy." Now if it was a child and not a dog that had been nabbed I wonder if the NSW Deputy Privacy Commissioner, John McAteer would still be critical?

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/dogs-freed-from-pound-woman-arrested-20120924-26flp.html A woman has been arrested twice at the Mildura pound this morning after allegedly breaking in and setting loose dozens of dogs. Police were first called to the Mildura City Pound about 12.30am and were confronted by about 25 dogs that had been set free from their kennels. Officers searched the pound and discovered a car with three dogs inside, and arrested a 44-year-old woman hiding in a nearby shed. The Merbein woman was taken to Mildura Police Station where she was questioned and released while the investigation continued. Advertisement But police were called back to the pound just before 5am following reports of another break-in. A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the 44-year-old woman was arrested in the pound again and taken to the police station, where she continues to be questioned this morning. No charges have been laid. Police managed to catch all of the dogs and returned them to their kennels. Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/dogs-freed-from-pound-woman-arrested-20120924-26flp.html#ixzz27KsaJuqM

Should I Leave The Puppy Out With The Big Dog?
Fit for a King replied to pare's topic in General Dog Discussion
pare - slightly off topic - did your breeder decide on desexing at 6mo? I personally wouldnl;t with such a large breed....puppies I place out must wait until after 12mo before they are desexed to allow optimal growing time.... -
What Breed? - Shelter Dog
Fit for a King replied to Michelleva's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I don't see the harm if you are so keen of going back - asking to speak to the Shelter Manager and making further enquiries. If there is a court case pending indicate you are willing to wait etc......show your interest and keep in touch and see how it all plays out...... -
A HUGE apology to anyone who turned up for training at Caboolture on Wednesday night 4 July - I was supposed to take it, got sidetracked with dog issues at home and completely forgot........ sorry sorry sorry guys
-
oh just remembered a judge up at Toowoomba who said, in front of her steward, writer and exhibitors picking up challenges, as she washed her hands ringside "I hate judging group X dogs - they all drool and smell" - wtf?????? certainly there are some droolers in the group but majority aren't and certainly very few smell.....person is an idiot who has trouble identifying breeds anyway.......

What To Do With Non-dog Neighbours?!
Fit for a King replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had this with my ex neighbour - at first all was rosy - she had a dog, I had several - no dramas. Then her daughter started ropping her unregistered super aggressive ACDs off every morning and it all turned to hell. The ACDs kept attacking the chainlink fence and trying to get through. I got increasingly concerned and tried talking to her about it to no effect. I reinforced the fences and kept an eye on things but these two would spend all day at the fence line growling and barking. Then her grandson got a puppy but because he and his father were living in a flat they couln't keep it at their place so it started being dropped off at her place as well for days and nights at a time.....it turned into hell - puppy locked on the verandah at all hours crying and howling, ACDs tearing up the fence. After trying to talk to her civilly and being called a number of names I spoke to the ranger. He had a chat with her......advised her to keep an eye on fences, perhaps keep puppy inside etc, get the ACDs back to her daughter etc etc ....all very neutral. Well next I started getting notes from her saying one of my dogs barked from 9.02am to 9.03am, from 11.12 to 11.13 etc etc and she was going to report me....I dropped her a note back saying by all means do so - two came keep a dairy and I advised I had recorded each and every incident with the ACDs and puppy ......she went to the ranger who came out and sat outside my house for nearly two hours. My dogs barked for approx a minute when he arrived and then went back to sleep. The ACDs and puppy, however, barked non stop for the two hours - he fined her for 4 unregisterd dogs (even her own dog wasn't registered), excess barking and a couple of other things. It was priceless - I think the fines were about $1200 from memory (it's a few years ago now).....she continued to be an absolute bitch for the time I remained there - when I sold and moved I left her a present......several large bags of dog poo...upended on her driveway.....I know I know it was childish BUT man it felt good...... -

Have they read the breed standard? Was it the correct one? I had a judge start quoting a breed standard to me - only problem one it wasn't the correct one...sigh.... Do they know what breed they are judging? You might be surprised! I have seen dogs judged and non-awarded as the judge didn;t know what he was judging.... Are they rough - esp with babies? No excuse for this IMO Do they seem to be judging dogs and not handlers? And we all know that happens.... Do they appear to be judging to a type? If they all over the map in a breed it really makes me wonder whether they have a dog eye.... I also give judges a miss if, for instance, over say 3 or 4 appointments they only pay the same dog for BIG - regardless of how strong a lineup it is.......one judge has openly admitted to me that she is "afraid" not to pay a certain exhibitor if he puts a dog under her.....total madness......
