Puppy Medication, De-sexing
Fit for a King replied to Matthew_B's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I heartworm every month and I used to use HG but now use Valuheart - not a chewable tablet but just as effective and half the price - makes a big didfference when you have multiple dogs. I am very anti applying flea prevention every month if the dog and the surrounds do not have any flea activity. If I see a flea on any of the dogs then everyone gets a dose as does the surrounds but otherwise I leave them alone. I believe dosing every month because you can is over medicating the dog. I also use tick collars as I have previously found the applications are ineffective in ticks. Gastro worming as prescribed in your post is my usual method. Desexing costs vary from vet to vet. You will need to ring around to get the best price but remember cheap doesn't always mean good In terms of age I leave my lot until after their growth plates close before I desex - I will leave it to the Lab experts to give advice on your breed. -
You like harlies Ashanali or just her? She has a lovely head.....

Aggressive Dogs And Group Obedience Classes
Fit for a King replied to ruthless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Years ago I attended group obedience at Fairfield RSPCA - there was a 15mo (from memory) rottie there that was HIGHLY dog and human aggressive - dog was muzzled even in the owner's car as it had bitten her a number of times....the "trainer" and I do use that term lightly used to have the owner lie on top of the dog (and this woman would have been in excess of 100 kilos) while the dog laid on its side on the ground...rest of the group were encouraged to walk up to the dog with their dogs etc and even step across it. Poor rottie would be frantically trying to get up - was the most diabolical thing to watch - I along with a few others refused pointblank to participate and protested to both the head trainer and to the facility manager. Got us nowehere - they believed it was the "only" way to control the dog. As an owner there is no way I would have done that to one of my animals....I went training elsewhere. -
from the site it appears Kuraby is the only place lure coursing occurs - is that correct?

Anyone know of any lure coursing or tracking being offered north of Brisbane or Brisbane northern suburbs pls?

Need To Update List Dogs That Kill In Aust
Fit for a King replied to kylielou's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm curious why you are posting this? To prove pits aren't on the list? To highlight the number of breeds involved in deaths? I fail to grasp the rationale for the thread..... -
Um fuzzy - given that these are your partner's dogs I certainly hope he is reimbursing you for all the money you are spending on HIS dogs???? if his family crisis is over then HE should be doing all of this....not relying on you to pick up the slack!

blockage in stomach or bowel perhaps? The arched back certainly is a sign of the discomfort..... Hope Harry is okay.....

Prefix Search Australia Wide Www.prefixsearch.com.au
Fit for a King replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
what about adding the breed(s) concerned and the State? make it even more helpful for people tracking someone down...... You could also contact each state association and ask if they are interested in supplying you a list of prefixes registered...a lot of work to add them in but..... -
Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (hod)
Fit for a King replied to :ange:'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a boy go through this at 6 months - I changed from puppy to adult food to lower calcium etc...he couldn't tolerate NSAIDS (ie Metacam, Rimadyl etc) so my vet used a set of shots of Cartrophen (an anti-arthritis drug) - kept him quiet for a couple of weeks and hey presto - was back to his puppy best. He turns 6 in December - has had no further problems, no sign of arthritis or lameness of any kind and I sure as hell expect he will be around for another 6 - 8 years..... Have you sought a second opinion if you don't think your vet is getting it right? My boy's diagnosis was via x-ray...... -
Obedience Training In Brisbane
Fit for a King replied to Deleted's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oxley used to - Sat mornings from memory - but that was a few years back - you may need to check a few sites.... -
works like a dremel.....I sold mine as my dogs freaked out at both the sensation and the noise...also with long coated breeds easy to get the fur curled around the tool as it spins. Other people use them very effectively though......

What Do You Think Of Colouring /dying Dogs
Fit for a King replied to roxyporsha's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think it's pretty stupid - like dressing up a dog - but then as a kid I decided to give our Pom a haircut - problem was I did it with my Nana's pinking shears....he looked quite a sight! Went from being called Snowball to Shithead because he developed a complex from people laughing at him...poor buggar....... -
I only just saw this Anne - I know how much she meant to you and how words can seem very empty but know that I and my hairy gang are thinking of you and your girl... Run free Sophie and know you were loved with every inch of your Mum's heart......
-
Even if hubbie then spent yesterday on phone with breeder after meeting her Sunday (all supposition) did he research the breed at all????? I agree - buying on a whim is a dangerous thing to do....hope it works out.
-
I'll play devil's advocate...you knew nothing about the breed yet bought it on the same day anyway?
-
I feed at night - mine can bloat so my theory is if this is to happen I would rather be there - know it happens and react in time. If feed in morning then I am gone for up to 12 hours - by the time I got home it may well be too late....
-
I have an imported girl who came from winter into the end of our summer and started to shed undercoat....that has slowed but the top coat is far softer than I'd like....anyone recommend a good shampoo or other for toughening up the coat without loosing the health of the hair (if you get what I mean)....? she is also switching from puppy to adult coat which isn't helping matters.....

Old email that has been doing the rounds for years. Cocoa mulch not in Australia - incident happened in US......
