  1. bitch(es) in season - either she/they go/goes to a boarding kennel or the dog does. I don't believe in showing bitches in season so I'd send the bitch(es)
  2. sandgrubber - nope - my guess is she and the b/f would have blown the dough on a night at the pub or an x-box....
  3. Comment that annoyed me "maybe instead of sensationalising this we should look more to the reasons this woman came to this action. obviously there are not enough options for people who find themselves in financial difficulties as the pets are usually the first to suffer. the article clearly states this woman was turned away from a vet clinic and with the fees incurred from the surrender of a animal to local council it's no wonder they ended up in a bin. " comments at the bottom of the article - not on DOL......
  4. t-time - the CCCQ have been rabbitting on for months about how anyone and everyone with a particular breed being welcome to attend the breed lectures. certainly many of the coordinators are also repeating the message as I believe they have copped stick for only having their favourites there in the past. I'll be surprised if this is different for Gp 1. I'll email one of them and ask if she has heard anything to the contrary but certainly in 2, 5, 6 and 7 the coordinators are all on the same page with respect to this......
  5. Crazy Daisy - go toward the club house - down the bottom of that buildng near the BBQ area you will see a roll up door with a couple of people standing behind a counter - they'll have numbers and catalogues
  6. I can't believe one of the comments writers who defended her...bloody hell......I'm sure if she was asked you can bet money she drinks, smokes and has Foxtel (and yes I am making huge assumptions based on the photo) - far more important than being able to feed and care for living creatures.....
  7. t-time - not true in Qld. There is an open invitation for anyone to take their dogs to breed lectures and frankly that it what many trainees prefer as they get to see a range of dogs - not just a hand picked selection by the coordinators who may have a particular "type" they prefer or a friend in the breed who only ever gets to display his/her breeding.... Jed - nope there is an appointed lecturer or lecturers on the night so others bringing dogs don't have to speak publicly. They will be asked to stack their docks for inspection and move them singly and with the other exhibits. Of course they can speak to the trainees to stress one thing or another but frankly we have to know the standard asnd apply it to what we see without help from the owners......but in saying that we also want to learn - for example - it's great and all to know what physical characteristics to look for but we also want to know particular attributes - for eg - don't stare at X, don't approach in a certain way, don't teethe in a certain way, make sure to separate coat at a certain spot - all the idiosynchratic stuff........... Oh and no Sherry - tea and coffee though
  8. The rarity of the breed may also be influenced by the breeder's willingness to breed just because someone else wants one...that is - they take long periods of time to accumulate people they think are suitable for the breed - not breeding because they have enough people wanting them.....with some breeds that is, IMO, very important as some breeds are not for the first time dog owner, inexperienced dog owner or owner unable to recognise the very specific needs some breeds have.... If that keeps the overall population iof the breed down that's the way it is.....
  9. was in the Spet issue of Dog World...
  10. KK - if it happens again make sure you have your Smith & Wesson on you - then yell "gun" - when everybody ducks for cover shoot the little bastard. I'm sure the parents could have another....second time they might be lucky and get a nice-un.........(said tongue in cheek but I would have been tempted to knock the little bastard's head off)..........
  11. This is all great information BUT your friend also has to consider what sort of dog she wants - that has to be part of the decision - not just low or non shedding. No point in getting a non shedding high energy dog if she isn;t prepared for it......I know it makes it hard but......
  12. Quit Itch - made for horses and dogs - shampoo in, leave for 10 minutes then rinse. It's an orange colour so may stain light coats....
  13. Highly unlikely to see Bernese at Durack - last time I saw any berners at all was at Brisbane Royal and before that probably 2 years earlier at Durack......might get a few at Toowoomba Royal as the breeder is a local....
  14. I have trouble understanding some posters who seem to think because he was a cop and depressed he deserves sympathy. If it were your neighbour or Joe Bloggs down the street everyone would be baying for blood (and rightly so) - his occupation and state of mind (unless he was so psychiatrically ill he couldn't appreciate his actions) should be irrelevant, he had a duty of care and he failed badly. End of story. If he was that psychiatrically ill what the hell were they thinking leaving the dogs in his care? It smacks of double standards.....
  15. You also have to wonder what abuse his own dog has suffered that would make it attack and eat kittens.......bloody hell I've had dogs chase cats but once they had them cornered didnt know what the hell to do next.....
  16. is't this the dog that was on that nutty American show - the greatest dog in the world or whatever it was called. They all lived in a mansion - had an elimination each week.......the owner of Tillman (if it's the same dog but this Tillman was a skateboarding Bulldog so strongly suspect it was) - was convinced they would win. Got bumped fairly early.....
  17. I too buried a dog - 2 m down....8 months later one of mine dug her up...partly ate her and everyone had a roll in her. I don't bury anymore - I cremate instead.
  18. There are some school programs that have instructors who bring in dogs and try to educate kids. Ironically though I know of one guy who still does it but the kids are told from the beginning "don't touch my dog he bites" (and he does). This fellow runs an obedience school. It seems bizarre to me to be using such an animal as an educational tool when there are plenty of friendly dogs that could be used to teach kids to approach and touch appropriately.
  19. If indeed they gopt the dog as a pup - may well have been a rescue or poundie or donation as an older dog.....
  20. Bear in mind some councils have limits on the length of leads also - 2 - 3 m.....you might want to check the bylaws in your area....
  21. How old is the dog and what breed? what training have you done to date? Puppy school etc?
  22. Frankly 3 sets of vaccs by 16 weeks of age is WAY too much anyway. Do one set now, one set at 16 months and the dog will be fine for a few years.....
  23. I'm a scpetic - the dog will be used to promote a funds drive and non cruelty campaign then euthanised because it suddenly became vicious or they suddenly decide it is a pitbull and therefore illegal in Qld....either way I think the poor thing is doomed.....
