Hi agree. It also relaxes the owner in to a false sense of security and they often slack off with the daily checks....

Also some Malamutes and Huskys don't come out of anaesthetics well at all. I've seen some heart rendering recoveries with this breed. Banging heads against walls from thrashing until bleeding etc....

Hi. I just cup my hands over the dogs eyes and place the lower part of that same hand across the nose and gently hold down...so that the dogs nose is facing the ground...this way the ears end up downward too...stops water getting in both ears and eyes

I clipped my little fluffy back to the skin yesterday. He looks very funny, but he is so much more comfortable and it grows back very quickly.

Ticks are horrendous in my area (Northern Beaches)! My neighbours cat died a fortnight ago, and I nearly lost mine last week!! Thankfully he made it and is now back at home (indoors!!) Divine Angel, if the head remains in when pulling the tick off, it is ok as the poison runs from the body, therefore no more poison is injected in to the animal. However you do then need to keep an eye on the head, as it can get infected as the animal then has a foreign body. My parents are also in this area, and they have a very leafy garden, lots of ferns etc, so my dogs dont go there ever! However visitors have ticks on them from walking from their car, down the garden path, to the front door. Very scary stuff!! Edited to add: a friends dog died as he had a tick inside his anus, and another from a tick on their gum!! Front line was used on both these pets, plus daily checks.

;) Every four baths or so, I mix in some purple shampoo in with Victoria's regular shampoo (Aloveen), and this brings the whites back up. But from memory, she still has a bit of the pink elbow thing happening. Will have a look later and see. :D

Just a quick note, Pyohex would be better than Malaseb for the more "serious" hotspot, as it has higher levels of chlorhexedine in it.

Several of my clients swear to a daily wipe of water and borasic powder. On a grooming list I am on, someone else recommends feeding from stainless steel bowls only. They feel this has worked for them........... Apple cider vinegar in their water too apparently helps.

Pyohex should only be use if there are signs of infection ie. pus. Otherwise the level of Chlorhexidine is too drying. That's really the difference between Malaseb and Pyohex.....Malaseb for dry skin, Pyohex if there is pus etc.........

I'm also a fan of Malaseb, but believe regular washing of the entire dog with it can be a little too drying. The same company (Dermcare) make a fantastic, soap free, oatmeal, shampoo and leave in conditioner which is great for regular washing of dogs with sensitive skin. It is called ALOVEEN. Available from your vet and some pet stores.
