  1. Ive been told that the RC is a different formulation sold in vets than in shops. Apparently the vet stock is buy 4 or 5 bags get one free, however pet shop you need to buy about ten bags. Will find out for you Mel on the w/end and get back to you. I'm also on that IAMS thing for the price, I think RC is about $105, so a fair chunk more than the IAMS.
  2. The essential difference between the two (Epi and Aloveen) is that Aloveen is a superfine colloidal oatmeal suspension. This means the oatmeal has larger surface area than other oatmeal products (e.g. products you can see the chunks of oatmeal) and therefore absorbs many more allergens. It also contains aloe vera which has natural anti inflammatory properties. Aloveen is also registered with the APVMA as an anti itch product (unlike many of the other oatmeal products) so has therefore gone through rigorous testing to prove it does work as an anti itch and soothing product. I've used the Epi before with no problems though, I was just curious about the 'bits' that get left behind which is why I looked in to it.
  3. Awwww, gorgeous photos! My swf wouldnt eat his kibble either. IAMS have a gravy product out which he loves, I pour a little bit of that on top and he practically inhales it. I used less and less of the IAMS gravy and so now he will eat kibble plain (most of the time).
  4. This has happened to me before, I rang the vets and they were more concerned about the foil packaging than the actual pills. Dog was fine
  5. Hi Tiggy, Yes you can buy Malaseb at your vets over the counter LB - all I could suggest is thorough drying of Godzy's feet and in between his paws after going outside, but I'm sure you're already doing this. Little cotton booties sounds like the way to go with your boy as I know you have tried everything else :D
  6. Dermcare have just released a new product which I have trialled and it is fantastic. It is Pyohex Leave In Lotion. Great for situations like these, Angus' paws have been fab since we've been using it.
  7. I personally dont like it and have never had a dog who would touch the stuff. I feed Eukanuba, my guys love it.
  8. Definitely a vet check. Is his hearing okay? Victoria is deaf, so I have to wake her very carefully, or she gets a fright.
  9. They can build up an immunity, but in the case of paralysis ticks the immunity is lost in between seasons so people in tick areas shouldnt get too complacent.
  10. Dermcares Aloveen Shampoo and Leave in Conditioner is great! It's soap free and smells like coconuts. Made by a veterinary dermatologist, so very mild, no harsh additives etc. It's great for bull breeds who have a tendency towards dandruff. The conditioner acts as a barrier for the skin and soothes any dryness. It's also great for inbetween baths to "freshen" the dog up a bit.
  11. Oooooo, I didnt know this, I always squash the suckers. Will be sure to drown them instead! Thanks for that
  12. I've always had them done and no problems, but I think the general consensus here is that they are unpopular. If you do a search on here, you will find quite a few discussions and info about it.
  13. Next time you are at the vets, buy a tick remover. Very cheap and no risk of leaving the head in
  14. I can sooo sympathise Shekina. Did you try what I mentioned on the other list? Of making sure the food is raised? I had a Rotti pup who refused to eat and she got terribly skinny, had blood/urine tests done, all to find out that she simply had heartburn which she grew out of I know how worried/frustrated you must be, it's awful thinking they aren't getting adequate nutrition especially as a baby. I'm sure he'll snap out of it soon enough, but good luck in the meantime
  15. Are Oz vaccinations exactly the same? Therefore is it okay if we follow that protocol? Just curious... I dont vaccinate yearly and my old girl has already had her last.
  16. Malaseb is milder than Pyohex, they are very similar except Pyohex has a higher level of chlorhexidine in it so it's better for infections and as your vet said good for cleaning wounds etc (altho straight chlorhexidine is better for cleaning if you have it). Pyohex is the one which helps with the treatment of mange. If there is no sign of infection (pus) then I would use Malaseb, if it is simply itching with no sign of redness then I would use the Aloveen. With all three shampoos I would use the Aloveen Leave In Conditioner after each shampoo. It creates a barrier and helps prevent dirt settling on the skin, soothes the skin and helps prevent more itching, plus moisturises the coat as both the Malaseb and Pyohex tends to dry it out if used regularly.
  17. Oh Trace, have just found this thread. I am so sorry about Stewie ;) He is one of those dogs you just want to reach through the screen and give him a cuddle and scratch behind the ears. Pleased that the health management is working and you are managing to keep the osteosarcoma at bay.
  18. Thanks lcprgf. Glad you had a good time..... I think we're all about ready for some new Nell photos when you get the chance
  19. I charge $50-$60 for a Saint Bernard, $70 for a Newfie. It all depends on where you live aswell. $60 for a Goldie could quite well be the norm in certain areas, although my previous client base was an affluent area and I only charged $40-$45 for a Golden and that was the norm for that area. I've found someone to come and wash my Saint tomorrow as I dont have the time, she is only charging $35 Told her I'd dry her as it's so cheap
  20. I also use Malaseb for Angus' feet. I just wet them, then lather some Malaseb in my hands and massage it well in to the paws. Let him run around for ten minutes then rinse it.
  21. You might want to check out the spelling of your puppies breed Dogue Sorry lcprgf, it's just since you've gotten your baby, I've noticed quite a few others call then 'Douges' aswell as that's what you always call Nell. You could be starting something here ;) What does the Livamol do? Wherabouts in Blacktown? What exactly are the horses doing? Would love to show my daughter some ponies soon. (and pinch Nell for a cuddle!)
  22. Oh Brigantia, how tragic RIP little man
