  1. Sharpei Rescue used to do rescuing in the Newcastle/Central Coast area and did rescue some crosses. I'm not sure when they closed but they certainly were going about 3 years ago
  2. I know my breeder is playing very safe at the moment with this question She is judging gundogs next Friday Neither her mum nor I are entering our griffons that she bred on that day although they will be in a different ring.
  3. my baby Latte gave me an early MOther's Day present on Friday and on the Saturday my Mocha won Challenge Dog Breed :) so it was a Happy MOther's Day here with the other 3 being pleased they were absolved of having to get mum anything
  4. I'm going to Dubbo Ag Show but showing a griffon - that's the only thing I have ever shown in a show ring I did go to a bit of show training with my golden retreiver, I'm used to big dogs if you do get really stuck more than happy to help
  5. thanks for that looks like Mochy will be the only boy griffon again, I know who the other two griffons entered are If you see a lady with a male griffon sitting with rottweilers - that's me :) I'm getting really excited about the show :)
  6. no age limit in NSW the fees from limit to main reg. are just higher for the older dogs. In NSW you need to get your breeder to sign a form to say that she/he thinks that the dog is a good example of the breed My Tilly is six and I was going to do this as her breeder really wants me to enter her in neutral classes so I have been investigating all of this.
  7. what an absolute cutie! If he is half as much fun as my griffon you will be on a winner for companionship and for laughs
  8. whatever she is she is cute! She seems to have a long body? or is that just the photo coz I can see some daschy in her.
  9.   she doesn't have much stuff! surely she could have packed a toy and a bowl    what a gorgeous little chi and great that you have become such good friends with her mum :)
  10. a smmooth coat griffon ticks all the boxes as well and they are such characters
  11. don't forget also if asking for the health certificates understanding what they actually say and mean I knew when I got my first golden retriever that I had to ask for a hip and elbow score certificates. No problems getting that so I thought everything was fine. Only trouble was I had no idea what the scores meant  lucky all was okay and now i know what to look for :)
  12. cuter than cute! I love jack russells - they are on my "to be owned" list one day but I'm rescuing one that is 8 years or older  don't know if I could cope with the energy of a younger one (and I own coolies so I know energy  )
  13. I have both males and females, I had never owned a male dog until I got my Onslow but now I own 3. To me it depends on the breed as well. For example for some unknown reason I have never found a male cavalier that I have liked yet have owned and my mum has owned female cavaliers and I adore them I prefer male griffons and male coolies (although I wouldn't swap my female coolie for the world) Golden retreivers I was told males were cuddlier and sookier - I think I got a broken one coz he is very independant and standoffish (although loved to pieces) but the two golden retreiver males that came to visit on the weekend were very cuddly and sooky. I wouldn't mind either a female or male in golden retreivers.
  14. oh those poor little darlings I'm so glad that things are looking up for them now :)
  15. it's great to see that you have done your homework and still enquiring and taking advice :) alot smaller but how about an Australian cattle Dog? It may suit your needs. Although personally I love big boofers myself. Have a chat to Fifi about irish wolfhounds :)
  16. about 8 years ago I used them for a night still the same owner from what I understand and I found them really good I guess you are going up Buckets Way. If you are going up New England Highway I can highly recommend Tamworth Boarding Kennels. Run by a "showie" and my dogs loved going there when I used to have to board them. Big grassy runs outside, nice large kennels inside
  17. I always ask to pat a dog at a show but never when the people look extremely busy - sure sign they are about to go in the ring or when they are sitting back half asleep and the dog is too I've even learnt not to pat poodles on the top of their head - whoops - that lady did get a bit snarly but having a short coat myself I forget how long it takes for that beautiful top knot look. Now i just pat the coated dogs gently on the side.
  18. he made me smile, what an absolute sweetheart. I thought bernese mountain dog x at first too but I think they were too rare 9 years ago to people cross breeding with them? Not sure. But I would think a bit of golden retreiver, a splash of kelpie, some more of this and a a little extra of that = one gorgeous fellow :)
  19. or crate them inside with the telly or radio on? large crate, toys, blankets, water, treats I used to be so against crating for long periods of time however my coolie loves her crate and goes in there in the morning more than happily. I try to put her in an outside pen with two of my other dogs which would give her more room but she won't have a bar of it and runs away yet happily walks herself into the crate In my old home my dogs were outside during the day when I wasn't home and inside when I was and they adapted fine.
  20. I get blank stares with coolies too. So I often say "Australia's oldest working dog, commonly known as the German Coolie as Germans developed them in South Australia and they look a bit like a kelpie and alot are blue cattle dog colouring" I normally then whip out my ipod touch and show pictures of my two with my griffon I say it's the dog out of "As good as it gets" but mine has a smooth coat. Never had to explain what a golden retreiver was
  21. AWDRI rescued a golden oldie cattle dog last year which I fostered She found a home quickly with an older lady who loved the loyalty of cattle dogs but didnt' want the energy of a young one A letter was received showing a very happy Gemma with a note "Gemma needed me and I needed her" Perhaps an older working dog would be easier to adopt because people like their loyalty and obedience (generally) but don't want one tearing up the backyard in boredom. I know I hanker after a jack russell and will adopt one in the future but he/she will be about 10 years old because I know I couldn't cope with the dog otherwise  maybe try to promote that with a golden oldie you get the qualities that people like in a dalmation with none of the nuttiness of young dogs
  22. I've taken dogs straight from country pounds and fostered them, probably not the most ideal situation but no alternative really I have always spoken to the pound and made sure that there has been no recent cases of parvo - this probably isn't any use but it reassures me a little the dogs are always vacinated by the vet on the way home from the pound the dogs never left my yard for at least two weeks after they come into my care and are not put up for adoption during this time because I think it takes about two weeks for their real personality to come out. The worse that happened was that one of the dogs had kennel cough and my girl got a mild dose for 1 or 2 days, the boys were fine. and I never intended to have young puppies who would be most at risk. But where I live now there are litters of puppies born so I would not be able to foster unless the dog was fully quarantined for at least two weeks
  23. So counting here (and running out of fingers), 11 dogs inside the house? Looks like we have a winner, ladies and gents! See Ma? With six dogs, I'm relatively normal My mum doesn't think I'm normal either  I think there are eleven - my lot Onslow, Tilly, Flash, Latte, Mocha - her lot - Clutch, Manny, Gudge, Bella, Mikey, Brush - yep. Oh I have 3 cats as well who are presently living in the large kitchen/pantry - my housemate has cats but they live outside so not sure how many
  24. I have five although it's only really four and a half as I co-own one,, expecting another one in a few weeks and my co-owned girl is expected in May so i will no doubt keep one of her litter. I own two coolies, two golden retreivers and a griffon (who thinks he is a coolie but the size of a great dane  ) My housemate owns many many dogs, all coolies, but six of them are housedogs. All our dogs get on really well, even the little one and the coolies are forever playing together :)
