at puppy school the instructor had us roll our puppies over on to their back and hold them there for a little while. There was a lovely Akita there with two little girls - one looked about two - the instructor showed the littliest how to do this and told the mum that it was really really important that the whole family did this every day to the dog. Maybe all the kids could do it. Others may have different ideas though here.

that's great news!!! Amazing Onsy was really good with Tilly too for a while after although he can play quite rough with her. Must have a sixth sense or something :-)

you are feeling exactly like I felt after both Onsy and Tilly were done. But it was only for an evening and they were both fine the next day. I still felt the meanest mum in the world though. Just keep her quiet, have someone at home with her for the first few days and she should be right as rain. She will just want to sleep tonight and be quiet, and wrap her warm if she is cold.
-
she'll no doubt be fine, be a bit miserable tonight and just want some tender loving care but tomorrow back to her normal self. I wish some vets were more sensitive or at least the vet nurses. Tilly was being desexed, got back into the office to find a message to ring the vets. I ring, the girl I am supposed to speak to wasn't there so I asked the receptionist if Tilly was okay with my heart in my mouth, the girl said "I have to put you on to so and so I can not tell you what the problem is" well by this time I was absolutely panicking - turned out all it was was whether Tilly could take part in a survey about pain levels :p

i am so so sorry to hear this news, how devastating. She probably had the happiest 12 months of her life living with you. May you go quickly to rainbow Bridge Daisy and join my little Daisy who is also waiting up there. Hugs to you Openarms.

olll he is absolutely gorgeous!

so sorry for your loss RIP Cindy

when my cavalier had her teeth out the vet said I could give her aspirin for her pain relief. straight aspirin though. But ring the emergency vet first. poor poor dog, hope he finds some relief soon.

My pup only got a collar on the weekend because previously the older one would always go for her collar and pull it off quite violently. Then chew the collar. So far so good with the new collar BUT now I am leaving it off her when I'm not home. Thank you for that information.

this is making me cry how could anyone treat a little golden retriever puppy like that or indeed any pup!!!! All the advice that has been given has been great. One thing I found my two golden retreivers did differentiate in temperament, my boy pup was always going to the bathroom to sleep for hours and hours yet my girl pup was always with me. Just take one step at a time, baby step, make a safe haven in the laundry and follow everyone elses advice!

I took Tilly back yesterday to get her stitches out, I'm sure they told me to bring her back in 10 days time to get her stitches out, BUT she has no stitches only internal ones - I felt such an idiot but the vet said they tell people to bring them in 10 days time to make sure the wound is healing. It must have been dry blood that I thought was stitches and which I thought she may have pulled a couple out! She was only really sore for one night then back to normal high energy Tilly speed!

that was my suggestion. It's easier said than done but perseverence. As you are aware you can't have a big dog jumping up on people. My goldens are always made to sit before they are patted by anyone especially children. The oldest automatically now just sits if he sees children because he knows he will then get a pat even if it is only by mum. The youngest one is proving more of a problem but she will get there. One thing I have never let the dogs jump on me so they learn. After Tilly finished puppy school she got a bag with treats and one of the things was what I owuld call a house lead which is a lead with collar in one. It's easy to keep by the front door and easy to slip over her head so I have some control over her when people come to the front door. Also obedience school is a good idea, we have just started so hope that it will settle Tilly down.

my cavalier spent her puppyhood sleeping come to think of it she spent her adulthood sleeping too what sort of puppy is it? that may make a difference to answers.

solution solved Bella Baby get two cavs for company!!!! I found my cavvy quite difficult to housetrain but eventually she got the hang of it. I did find though even when she was older that if she had been to the kennels for a few days that she "forgot" when she came home and I had to "retrain" her but it didn't take long. With my pup now I just took her outside regularly and even though she is now six months old I still take her out if she looks like she is getting a bit restless, although touch wood we haven't had any accidents for a couple of months now excpet when visitors arrived and my attention was diverted. stay with her and lots and lots and lots of praise when she performs, really go over the top and they soon get the hang of it.

tilly's tummy is still a bit swollen but otherwise she is back tonormal I wonder why some dogs stay overnight and some don't - guess it depends on the vets.

my golden retriever, Tilly, was desexed yesterday. She went in the morning, and I picked her up in the afternoon. She was quite sleepy and sorry for herself last night, she threw up quite badly too for a little while. probably just getting rid of the anaestitic (sp?) this morning, back to her normal can't sit still for a minute self and running around wildly with my other dog - I'm trying to keep her quiet as per the vet notes!!!!! I did take today off work just in case but only enjoyed a day off, no nursing duties :-) she turned six months old last week.

I think the class sounds interesting, wished I still lived in Canberra! people's minds do tend to wander no matter what, mine does!!!!!! The class is at night, most people would have had a very busy day, it would be cold out so people are beginning to think about being able to go home and relax for the first time that day, I don't think it has anything to do with your teaching. The main thing is that the people are interested enough to come every week, if they weren't they wouldn't! good luck!

can sympathise tremendously with you. same thing happened when I took my swf, she was laughed at and I thought she did really well at training but she was ridiculed by the trainer she shouldnt' have had to be perfect, she was only learning too! and she was pretty good! sadly no longer with us stick your head up high and go show them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Onslow at 20 months of age has never lifted his leg in his life - he squats. Vet said he never had a male role model to learn from. He was also desexed at 4 months old, don't know if that made a difference. Daisy my maltese though, although she was a desexed female, lifted her leg at everything whilst we were out walking! Ons. never cottoned on though.

I guess all puppy schools must differ because all I had to take was Tilly on her lead and collar. They provided chicken for the training and there were no toys. I would phone and ask. It was great though, first time I was able to go to puppy school because of where I lived before and although I have owned many dogs I really learnt alot. Tilly was much older than the other pups because we have only just moved but she enjoyed the socialisation with the people, she really is very breed racist and will only associate with golden retreivers and wouldn't play with the other pups but on the 3rd night was more interested in them so if there was a 4th night she may have even played! have fun :-)

they probably have their more junior vets on on public holidays which is probably why the vet said she wanted another vet to look at it. hope all goes well!!!!

Come to think of it Tilly is scratching far far less than she used to since being on eaglepack large breed puppy. and she loves eating it, took her one night of not really liking it (but I think she may have been fed dinner already that night as she was at the kennels up until 5.15 pm). But the way she hoovers up food it's a wonder she tastes anything! I'm still waiting for my sample packs to see whether Ons. likes it but Tilly will be definitely having EaglePack.

unbelievably I got a fussy golden retreiver!!!!!! Who would eat very little. The only kibble he would eat is Optimum which comes in a variety and is at the supermarket. The vet said that wasn't too bad and he seems okay on it. Since being joined by a very gutsy little sister his eating has improved dramatically, nothing gets left for later on! that might be a solution as well, a companion will soon get her eating! good luck!

my puppy, now 16 weeks old, growing up way too fast, was throwing up flem first thing in the morning so I always make sure I give her a bone biscuit before bed. No more problems! Just think their little tummies get to empty otherwise. Oh and now I could never forget the bone biscuit, she goes outside then runs into the kitchen waiting - guess she will for the rest of her life
