I won't do the icon - Tilly has always eaten chicken wings, chicken carcasses and chicken drumsticks without a problem. A few weeks ago I gave them chicken wings for dinner. About an hour or so later hers came back up in a huge yukky mess - half undigested chicken wings - gross. I thought maybe she gobbled her dinner way too fast without chewing properly, new dog, Flash, in the house may have thought he would take them so put it down to that. tonight I gave them a chicken carcass each and I stood outside and watched them all. As soon as Onslow was finished I locked him away so Tilly wouldnt' think he would get hers, Flash was eating his slowly on the deck - never had anything like it - and Tilly took hers down to the lawn undisturbed. She was eating it slowly I thought. About two hours later - yep up it came - but not nearly as badly as the chicken wings and it looked sort of digested. any thoughts why this is suddenly occurring? I'll have to give her something else for dinner tomorrow night as it was chicken carcasses on the menu again, Ons will be happy he can have two.

Dogs Feeding Together Any Suggestions?
Ons replied to BlitznBear's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
"We also do this with feeding them raw bones or pig ears, just before when I let the older pup out the back after eating bones he went straight for the young pup, grabbed him on the neck, (he had already finished his bone) As soon as I yelled out NO he let go and sat straight away, so I brought him away from the back and have now seperated them." This was happening with my Onslow towards my Tilly, amongst other things. Basically Onslow thought he was the boss of everything and everyone. I sought professional help from Steve at K9 Force who retrained me! Best thing i ever did. So that's my recommendation, go and have a lesson with a professional trainer and learn how to nip any of this behaviour right from the start. Interestingly Onslow never did it towards Tilly about food bowls, only bones, pig ears etc. -
I owned a darling litlte cavalier for many years (well maybe not enough years) RIP Poppy I now own golden retrievers yep they moult as much as the retreivers but certainly both beautiful dogs

I would never have a dog not crate trained again! it is fantastic, I know where the dog is i didn't crate train my goldens but always slept my fosters in a crate, they adapted very very quickly, i knew where they were and they weren't destroying the house even now with my fosterfailure boy, he sleeps in a crate and if i go out at night, like tonight, i put him in a crate and let the goldens have run of the house. They are trustworthy, he is not and it is too cold at the moment for him to be outside at night. It will make it so easy when we go away and he also will feel secure because his "bedroom" arrangments haven't changed.

Name: Joanne Age (optional):  Location: near Kootingal Rescue Group: fostered for Coolibah Coolies Time in Rescue: since beginning of this year Who can vouch for: Coolibah Coolies - have fostered for Preferred Breed: medium to large Experience (if any): fostered four dogs for Coolibah Coolies, have had childhood dogs and dogs myself for the last 11 years Another update with more information, due to a wonderful suggestion by a DOLer Should of put this to discussion or vote before I went ahead with the thread Microchip if not done already there is a lady who lives nearby who can do them Vaccination my fosters all get vet checks and vacinated if need be Desexing would not consider anything else Heartworm test at vet check worming yes flea treatment automatically in summer, if needed in winter vet work if required yes basic training/teach manners. definitely, anything that will help a dog get a wonderful home house train dogs ditto Dogs inside the home or outside. inside whilst i am home, outside whilst not, crated at night Are you prepared to give extra care for a submissive nervous dog. my first foster was a very very submissive nervous dog and it was the most wonderful experience to help him develop and find a home where he is the most loved pet ever I can't foster long term anymore as I adopted my last foster but I can do overnight/very short term care. I also have done transport for Coolibah Coolies and Staffy Rescue as sometimes go to Sydney and then come back home along the New England Highway. Also helped get a crate back to it's rightful owner after it was used for rescue. done a yardcheck and likewise my yard has been checked by someone associated with Coolibah Coolies. Will help when i can now.

I'm sorry I don't have a solution but remember these problems well with my own precious cavalier, Poppy RIP. She hated going outside too when it was cold and rainy, little princess :D gosh i miss her.
-
i'm sure it was scourban but could be wrong. In any event as far as I am aware only the vet can prescribe it so he/she woudl know. I wouldn't be feeding the pup tonight, only water if only just to give the tummy a rest and if she is still not better in the morning to take her straight to the vets if you cant get into night.
-
good luck, let us know. With my little maltese RIP she was always getting tummy upsets, runny poo as a pup. The vet, whether rightly or wrongly, said that small dogs do tend to get upset tummies easily. No food for 24 hours then chicken and rice only for a couple of days along with scourban used to fix her up pretty quickly.
-
vets get busy i would make an appointment now for her to see the vet because you can always cancel the appointment if not needed can you get an early mark, suddenly develop a nasty migrane or something because i would be trying to get home to check on her asap. hopefully she may just have a little tummy wog or something, good luck with her!

I would ask your breeder to take the pup back for the week it's been my experience that normally breeders are happy to do this.
-
where are the pups located? I know when I was looking for a golden retreiver pup I rang the NSW golden retreiver club and they have a lady who you rang about pups, if she is a member that's another option. That's how I found my Onslow, whilst Tilly was found by an advertisement in DOL breed pages so that's another option.

now I understand what the diet is but I'm glad you are taking the dogs to the vet for a checkup, that would be my first port of call just to make sure there is no underlying reason.
-
and I'm sorry i don't quite understand what diet you are feeding your dogs. Are the maintenance biscuits like the large shape bone ones? Anyway can you advise what you are exactly feeding the dogs.
-
I don't know why you would be ruling out that is not the new diet particularly as you are saying it happened after the new diet was introduced whether he is now eating the biscuits or something else, if his stomach is upset he may not be able to tolerate any foods at the moment. As it has been a month i would recommend a vet visit ASAP I have two golden retrievers, one has no problems with any sort of biscuits, the other gets diarroreah from various different sorts so all dogs are different. But i don't have any problems with her with the super premium brands so that is what I stick to for both of them. what sort of biscuits are they?
-
Onslow and Tilly like it too, i have it in the fridge as a back up for when Mummy's home cooked stew has not dethawed or mummy has been too lazy too shop and cook. But a packet lasts 3 nights around here with their Eaglepack as well of course. The only thing is it does make their biscuits dry which they don't like so i have to put a bit of yoghurt in as well. I'm always around them when they eat but thanks for the information about the choking, mine are big dogs but if mum's cavaliers come visit and have some I will be extra cautious.

does the dog springer work well? i'll have a look at Ebay too, good thinking!

Pup Doesn't Think Much Of Eukanuba
Ons replied to samoyedman's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I changed my dogs to Advance coz I could just get it up the road so for convenicence. Both dogs were always hungry and putting on weight, mind you I could only use the Advance that did not have corn in it because of Tilly's allergies and the biscuits were very small. I've gone back to Eaglepack and Pet Deli, no affils whatsoever, will post it to me and it arrives 2 days after i Have ordered it online. If I know i'm seeing my mum and dad they deliver to the doorstep in Sydney northshore, not sure whereabouts you are. so i'm going to stick to eaglepack from now on. and the dogs like it much better, they thought it was a treat when i was handfeeding them it to see whether they liked it or not. -
Innova Large Breed Puppy
Ons replied to hollythegoldenretriever's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I fed it to my golden retreiver Tilly when she was a pup, I bought it from Pet Food Direct which is an affiliation with Pets Paradise but the Pet Food Direct in Tamworth does not sell any live animals. It was awesome stuff The vet told me at Til's 3rd injections that she had never seen a healthier pup, right weight, great teeth, shiny coat, and her fur was so so so soft. I did change her at 6 months over to Eaglepack though because I wanted her and my boy on the same food. Gomez I did email the company about the problem of it being sold at Pets paradiese but never received a reply -
How Do You Clean The Dried Muck Under Their Eyes?
Ons replied to Sally's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i was interested in reading this coz I thought that there may be a professional way other than picking it off but appears there isn't that's what I do Also, Sally when I had Daisy RIP my little maltese I used to keep the hair under her eyes really short, she got used to standing very very still whilst I cut it with blunt scissors -
my yellow tins were 69 cents - not fair guess that's country pricing for you

Tilly would like to thank everyone for this information about sardines. She had them for her dinner last night for the first time and thought they were especially yummy, she kept licking out her bowl for hours after just in case one suddenly emerged Onsy thought they were pretty good too. Their mummy was gagging as she was dishing up the dinners but i'm allergic to fish/seafood and can't stand the smell. 69c for Black and Gold sardines at IGA, I'll see if they are cheaper elsewhere because, despite the smell, I'll feed them regularly to them. I'll also see if I can find them in the springwater
-
i'm so sorry to hear this Tilly it's the saddest thing to have to do just enjoy your boy for as long as you can knowing that he had a good life with you at the moment although he is unwell he sounds like he still has some spunk in him and he is eating.

Ons replied to aussiegoldenlily's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
it's such a small small world, I thought it was and just had it confirmed. My friend in Iowa bred the puppy in the video, his name is Jules and he would be about 4 months old. Martha had a webcam going so I got to see pictures from day 1. The lady who now owns Jules, another Martha lives near Seattle, she took this video just before she got on the plane to go home. Lucky pups in the USA are allowed to be carried on inside the plane up to a certain weight. Jules lives with another golden retriever and a wolf cross and has a very happy life. Here are recent photos of him and Jazmine his sister.
