the magical pill cure - give the dog a tablet every morning for two weeks and his behaviour will suddenly become perfect. Wished it worked that way, but no it doesn't and I know that the hard way from my experiences with my male golden. And yes I sought professional help (from Steve at K9) and yes he taught me not Onslow and yes it was hard work and time consuming and i had to be consistent and not namby pamby Onsy and yes i work full time but still managed to do it AND it all paid off with a happier me a happier onsy and a happier tilly. I travelled 6 hours by car to see Steve, surely someone from Penrith if genuine about wanting help would. But I guess what centitout in her post says is correct - they want help that involves,no cost and no time and the dog comes out perfectly well trained

Vet Just Told Me What I Am Feeding Is All Wrong
Ons replied to Veanna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
that vet is odd! when I had my maltese and took her to the vet, the vet TOLD ME to make sure that I fed her lots of chicken wings because even little dogs need the bones to chew on! And Daisy always had fantastic teeth her whole life, complimented on by various vets. -

maybe pm Steve from K9 Force and see if he knows anyone. All I know he was a dogsend when I had huge problems with my dominant male. In the meantime can I suggest you get them to read Steve's website and start the TOT and NILIF - that really really worked for my boy (as well as other suggestions by Steve designed for my situation) -
Onsy, Tilly and Flash are here whinging that they should get a packet of 4 paws each like the other DOL dogs! They love it but I make a packet last for two dinners between the three of them - not enough they say! They do have their biscuits with it as well.

i take mine for their annual checkups and they get thorough examination. Temparature taken, ears, eyes mouth, teeth all checked as well as heart. And I am asked if there have been any problems. I have never timed it but I would imagine this would take at least 20 minutes, never felt rushed either although i have had to wait sometimes a considerable time. I would be looking for another vet.
-
that was a quick answer even by DOL standards thanks Staffy Luv! eta i note that they do phone consultations. I'll find out the name of the stones and give them a ring. It wouldn't hurt!

The vet on on Sunday morning didn't know what sort of stones Tilly had, I was supposed to ring Tilly's vet today but I was out of the office all day. I will ring tomorrow. All I know is that the stones are the sort that can be dissolved by diet rather than taken out by operation. I trust this vet and I saw the stones on the ultrasound myself so I know that they are there. I just wished that there was a better diet for her. I googled on the weekend and all I could find was what diet to give her after they have disolved so they don't reoccur. She needs to go on a low protein/high salt diet. I understand the salt is so she will drink lots which will flush her bladder out. Thanks everyone for their help. StaffyLuve where are All Natural Holistic vets? In Sydney? If so, I might take her down there after a month if the diet isn't helping. If anyone heres of anything please let me know. Thanks again.

yep, it's on special order due in on Tuesday or Wednesday I asked the vet about dried food and he said no only tinned

I went on holidays for 3 1/2 weeks and the dogs were left at the kennels, same kennels I always use. When they arrived home, I noticed Tilly, my 20 months old golden retreiver peeing a lot so I took her to the vets. As she wouldn't pee there he gave her an ultrasound and found bladder stones in her bladder He has just rung to confirm from a urine sample that Tilly does have an infection for which she will be given antibiotics and the bladder stones are ones that can be treated by diet hopefully and then to see what is happening by another ultrasound in a month. The diet is a special tinned food and that is the only thing she is allowed to eat for a whole month! She never really likes tinned food anyway and hates the same food day in day out. She normally has Advance Dog biscuits with home cooked meat/vegie/pasta/rice stew on top or occassionally Four Paws or rarely Natures Own tinned dog food. I asked the vet if she could have vegies and he did think about it but then said no. Does anyone know of a better diet than this tinned food that will help with the bladder stones? eta I'm also worried about giving her this tinned food as she does suffer from itches and hotspots which I can mainly control by watching what I feed her.

Certainly no flaming from here but a thank you for doing all that you did for Iko. It sounds like she was very happy but too many demons from her past still haunted the poor little darling. RIP Iko, run free at the Bridge and hugs to you Spikespuppy and your mum

I think that there probably are better products out there for the money BUT I generally use Advance as it is readily available here rather than me having to prethink and order other dry dog biscuits to be posted up which is normally Eaglepack. I also fidn it is one of the products that doesn't give Tilly the itches. I normally get the chicken and add a few of the new Dentabone large breed biscuits to it, they didn't like them on their own but happy mixed in. I'm pleased to read the other good reports about the product.

one of the flysprays now has some sort of ball in it, that rattles when you shake the can, it's supposed to do something to make the spray better or something. But it's great for shaking at Onslow when he is misbehaving, he is absolutely petrified of it

RIP Holly what a beautiful dog and what a beautiful life that she had with you and your mum

I want a photo of him swimming in the tub before his bath Off topic - but he certainly is a beautiful looking little dog! good luck with clearing up the skin problems.

Hi Colleen I'm in the same situation as you. Dogs are welcome to go to parents beach house (no longer their sydney home, well dad used blood and bones then wonders why they dig up his garden ) but they are not allowed to sleep inside. So far it has been only when I had just Onslow and he has just accepted that and stayed out at night. I put his bed for him in a sheltered spot on the back deck and he lies on it and goes to sleep. He does get more exercise and time spent with his mummy so he is pretty tired by the time night comes. It will be summer time anyway when you go and he may prefer sleeping outside. I think they accept different environments quite readily particularly when they are used to spending time outside, mine are the same as yours, inside at night time, outside during the day when I'm at work.

sending you all best wishes for your visit to the vet today.

the onslowsmums gang only like King Island Dairy Cape Wickham Double Brie No Coon, Kraft or Bega for them

the diet extras sounds like the diet of my three mmm sounds like the Royal Canin may well not be the problem unless they changed the formula and yes the hot spots do develop scaringly quickly, I noticed Tilly's, by the time of the vet's appointment it was only 2 hours later and it was red and weeping and horrible Onsy, touch wood has never had one! hope the problem is solved soon.
-
when did she start getting bad ears may answer whether it is the kibble or not. Did they change the formula at any stage or indeed did you change "flavours", that may assist you to know. I'm not sure what you are feeding her? If it's not an additive/preservate etc free one you might like to give that a go and see whether that helps with ears. Just a suggestion :-) I've learnt from trial and error with Tilly mostly how to avoid hot spots, itchies and ear infections
-
just as an aside she isn't allergic to her kibble is she? I know my Tilly got a very nasty ear infection when I changed her to another brand of food when we were away on holidays because of unavailability of her normal brand? Also there are so many dog ear drops out there, I would be using them, with vet's approval, rather than those made for humans.

Mortein flea bombs were really good when I was innundated with fleas a couple of years ago Just from the supermarket follow instructions as per the packet from memory you had to leave the house for 2 - 3 hours after, i'd probably leave for longer than that and do it on a fine day so you can open all the windows when you get home again
-
she's not constipated she rarely throws up, only just chicken bones/frames - that's what's wierd - and she never used to. I'll just stop giving them to her for awhile and then reintroduce later on.
