  1. would you mind posting this website ArtyFarty? For my goldens at the slightest sign of a hotspot (although I missed Onsy's completely until I noticed he had a swollen neck then completely panicked what it could be) is antibacterial wet ones and then curash baby powder. It has worked for me to stop them. But I'll try and gel - that sounds good!
  2. my dogs really adapted well to living in a pen when i was at work they always had the run of the backyard but early this year we moved into a friend's place whilst our place was being finished built. whilst I was at work the dogs would go into the pen, after a week they just went in there as soon as I told them too in the morning. Now when I go stay with my friend's they still just go into their pens when required to.
  3. I enjoyed going to puppy school but I think it would have been better if it was 4 weeks not 3. Tilly was by far the biggest puppy there but she was scared of all the other puppies except she started playing with a pup at the end of the 3rd week. she loved all the people though especially the little girls. There was free play, then we learnt sit, stand, down, discussed any problems, more free play, more lesson work and then free play. No puppies were allowed to bully or corner any other puppy. It was at the vets surgery out the back so the pups could get used to that situation, run by the vet nurse but the vets would come out and talk as well. on the last night the pups were put on a table for an examination and given bbq chicken so they would experience positive. Even today if we are at that vets Tilly peers out the back and wags her tail in hope I thought it was well run and had positive experiences. This was my first puppy school, although I have owned dogs before I have never lived in a town with puppy school when I have had a puppy but I still learnt things
  4. i'm using it at the moment on my foster dog Blossom who has demodedic mange. Once a week. I'm hoping it is working, I think it is It's horrible stuff, smells so badly and Blossom who is very good in the bath jumps when I pour it on her, it must sting. I wash her in the bathtub and keep the fan going. I wash her first in malaseb, then pour it over her and keep scooping it up and pouring over her again. Last weekend I put some diluted in a spray bottle and sprayed some on her as well. I think that was an effective way if not long process. I use rubber gloves and lock all my other pets well away from her until she is washed and dried. Then I change my clothes and wash them together with the towels I use. I would hate to be using it on a struggling dog, lucky Blossy is pretty good about it all.
  5. my mum says when she switched her cavaliers from Eukaneuba to Eaglepack that cured the problem at her place
  6. I use liverwurst, just a little and the cheap one. No problems with dogs taking tablets. And they can't get the tablet out of the liverwurst unlike sliced cheese. My old maltese RIP was a terror with taking tablets but this is the only thing that worked for her. It's probably very bad for them but it works, it's only a little and it's only been when tablets have had to be used twice a day.

I'm so so so sorry to hear about Angus. I used to love looking at his photos, he was such a handsome boy. He will be so missed. Hugs to you Danois
  8. my friend lives in a very heavy tick area and her dogs wear tick collars and spot on treatment as well. as recommended too by her vet.
  9. she looked such a sweetheart RIP Miss Powerlegs
  10. my laptop computer at home has died for some strange reason so I am slowly reading these at work Thanks everyone for their input I will wait to hear from you Peibe before taking any steps. In the meantime I'm being careful about Blossy's diet and just continuing with what the vet has given. thank you again from myself and Miss Blossom. I was lying on the couch last night and she was tucked behind me just sleepy and enjoying a cuddle and Hyacinth the cat on top of me, and they were kissing each other, it was a very special moment. Oh forgot to add Peibe ring me on my home phone, i will pm you the number, Onslow chewed my own mobile phone lucky it wasn't the work one! How would you explain that to the boss!
  11. middle of last month all my dogs including Blossom and the kittens got Revolution spot on treatment as recommended by the vets. This is to kill mites.
  12. help would be greatly appreciated. Blossom is really a sweet dog but unfortunately her mites are not getting any better, she has been going to the vet regularly for scrapings. She also had basic blood tests becuase I was really worried about her constant need to drink then constant weeing - and I mean constant and large amounts! The vet initially ruled out diabetes and UTI. The blood tests came back okay except her white cell count is slightly abnormal but the vet put that down to her mange. And over time her constant drinking and weeing has reduced considerably and the vet said that it could well have been psycomatic (sp?) her way of coping and she is less stressed. She is presently on invermectin daily and cephraxin (sp?) antibiotics twice daily. She has been on invermetcin since mid July and the antibiotics since the first week in August. Since she has arrived she is much less smelly and not as hot as what she used to be, although she has been occassionally smelly and hot. Not as bad though. She has also been bathed once a week in malaseb and the vet said that was sufficient. She has been fed Advance chicken biscuits and I will start feeding her just raw chicken as well because she appears less itchy when she has that. Apart from that she is a very bouncy happy dog. I have never seen a dog before bounce across the room with all four legs off the ground at once  She really gets on well with my other dogs especially my girl and they play together for hours. Even grumpy Onslow likes her. Loves carrying soft toys around as well and woos woos woos at you - lol - I think the soft toy carrying was from my golden retreiver and the woos woos woos from my coolie Bit slow in the toilet training and does tend to toilet where she likes rather than where my 3 go but half of that is because she doesn't really like grass and she has never been taught otherwise. When I'm home she is allowed in the house and she sleeps in a crate at night which is inside the family room, Tilly sleeps on a couch nearby so she is not alone. She does not mind the crate at all now. Inside the crate is a woolen blanket and a mat. so all in all I think her stress levels have decreased considerably but her mites havent. So any help would be greatful
  13. oh that is so sad, poor poor Tamsyn RIP at the Bridge
  14. I cant see any coolie in him may in "dog" though be different than a picture but I see one absolutely gorgeous dog, he really is beautiful!
  15. awww what a cutie and a clever boy. Gosh if he is 7 months old, he is going to be a very big boy when he is fully grown!
  16. oh how sad, hugs to you Sally certainly looked a beautiful horse. RIP and run free of pain
  17. please, please take Chopper to the vet as soon as possible. I don't want to alarm you and all may be well but that was the first sign of my cavalier's renal failure. However I'm sure that you have a far better vet than I did who kept telling me that the weight loss was good despite me saying no there is something wrong and then the vet not doing anything until it was too late.
  18. RIP Angel run free at Rainbow Bridge
  19. Onsy is 3 1/2 and never lifted his leg - he wees like a horse! front legs forward, back legs back! And he has had plenty to learn from - my little girl maltese (RIP) lifted her leg up all the time and my other male, Flash lifts his leg up.
  20. sounds exactly what Onsy had. I was absolutely panicking about what it was and took him to the vet and it was a hot spot  his first one ever and looked nothing like the ones Tilly ever has. But he is a large golden retreiver and in the middle of a week of rain and in summer Wierd, I hope you find out what is wrong. Unless being in a warm room could have caused a hot spot?
  21. hasn't harmed any of my dogs. They all love apple, particularly Onslow. Good healthy treat for them.
  22. I'm no expert but I thought that you had to keep golden retreiver puppies protein down to about 26% will stand corrected. Onslow grew up on Optimum Puppy, I didn't know much about feeding them as I do now but he did okay on it. Tilly was allergic to Optimum, it upset her stomach and made her itchy - same with Supercoat which her breeder fed. So she got EaglePack Holistic large puppy breed - by mail - she did very well on it. Now both are fed Advance only because of easy availability and both do really well on it, nice shiny coats and generally healthy dogs Both are golden retrievers
  23. My sister and I were members of it 30 odd years ago i feel old now But it was a good club then, used to meet in East Wahroonga. I'm glad it hasn't changed. They were really nice to my sister in helping trial her shetland sheepdog
