  1. very very funny I have two boy dogs and I don't have this problem, Hope I haven't jinxed it now!
  2. I always have back up tins of dog food in the cupboard, maybe they would get one once a fortnight, sometimes more often, sometimes not one for ages. i tend to have sardines as well so they woudl probably get them more than the tins. it's just convenient at times. But having said that I use only the small tin between the 3 of them so they only get a bit of a taste on their biscuits. I use Natures Gift or My Dog or Optimum, depending what is on special. I don't mind the smell of any of those tins and they dont' seem to upset their tummies, occassionaly they cause Tilly to be a windy though.
  3. I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful cat RIP Ellie
  4. Is it my imagination or are shetland sheepdogs smaller and frailer since the 1970's? Our family had two growing up, awesome dogs. And I don't recall them being barkers though. My sister used to obedience trial hers. And as an aside, I visited Shetland islands (awesome place to go) for the purpose of seeking shetland sheepdogs in their native home - I could only find one
  5. once a month whilst i'm at work a very nice lady pulls up in a very cute hydrodog bath van and 3 doggies get their wash mmmmmmmm they smell nice after it! when i win Lotto I'll get it done once a fortnight, for now once a month suffices.
  6. I felt like you at times too Ruthless particularly when I was having huge huge issues with Onslow when I first got Tilly and even now there are times when he frustrates me but he is 100% better than what he was and he loves and listens to me, Tilly is no longer scared of him and he knows his place and yes things will improve especially as you are dedicated to the "cause" and not going to give up sure you have a few steps back but then something happens and you know that you are on the right track
  7. poor Chopper have you tried leaving him with a different combination I had four dogs last week so was doing the two first then two next. Normally I would walk Flash and Tilly first then onslow and Lizzy. Not a problem, ons and Lizzy would get locked outside, then when I came home Flash and Tilly in the house and go round the side and get Ons and Lizzy. Flash didn't make a fuss at all. Last week Flash and Lizzy were playing outside before the walks so I locked the door and take Ons and Tilly. Well I could hear Flash howling loudly over two blocks away I wonder if as he is protective of me and Tilly that he was concerned, or he was just being a spoilt brat. Anyway getting back to topic, i'm just wondering if Chopper was left at home with a different combination he may react differently. Otherwise he may have to come on all walks to reduce self harm.
  8. who on DOL was selling tuff toys? Someone in Canberra? Can highly recommend them as well, although I have goldens the main aim for one of them is to destroy everything, he hasnt even tried on this one.
  9. the freedom but it doesn't help at all have you thought about fencing off part of your yard so that Willow doesn't have access to the side gate so if the kids do leave the gate open she is safe? Also if my Tilly gets out on the rare occassion she does the same thing, lucky i live on a very quiet road but what I do is call her in a very very exc ited tone and she normally comes running to see what mum has coz she sounds more exciting than anything else, yes you sound like an idiot but it is more than worth it.
  10. awww what a cutie! have fun with him! eta that the best toy we have had is a teddy bear that came in a puppy Kong pack with a puppy kong and the teddy bear. Certainly worth the money spent on it, it is now nearly five years old and still being played with by various dogs. It is the only toy that has lasted in our house apart from the tuff toys but I have larger dogs, one who trys to rip everything up.

  12. mine get different too because of Tilly's tummy and they don't complain Just feed in separate rooms if you are worried
  13. gorgeous looking girl! Sounds like she has been through the wars though have you tried just chicken and rice to see if that will get rid of anything bug in her once she gets off the scourban. It may be the kibble not agreeing with her. I know when I got my Tilly that she was being fed Supercoat Puppy but I found that gave her the trots so I switched her, from memory to Eaglepack. She now eats Advance and is fine with Natural Supercoat but every dog is different and some dogs are far more sensitive to food than others. My boys have no trouble with what I feed them. it may be an expensive exercise but I would try her on a few other kibbles, gradually of course introducing them to her. I am assuming that she has been wormed regularly? And I would be taking her faeces back for checking and asking them to do it properly this time! just my opinion and what I have had learnt from having a dog with "upset tummy" and other food sensitivites issues. She had a huge flare up just before christmas, everything was coming up or going straight through her and stuff she could tolerate before she couldn't, this lasted a couple of months. This is just my very misinformed opinion but I think she did pick up a tummy bug, got rid of most of it but just a little bit was still there ready to flare up, the vet gave her extensive tests which showed nothing and really were for my own peace of mind. I knew the problem was food and I was extra extra careful about what I gave her and still am strict with her. good luck!
  14. nope, mine get fed when I'm ready to feed them but always in the evening. I don't feed at the same time just in case I get held up at work or something and late home. In summer i feed much later than winter because I wait til it's cooler before I walk them and I like to wait at least half an hour before end of walk and dinner. Winter they are walked as soon as I get home from work.
  15. I am so so sorry to hear of this how absolutely tragic RIP Ruby - run free at Rainbow Bridge Hugs to you Longclaw, Mr Longclaw and Tommy
  16. awww they are absolutely beautiful! Very very cute!
  17. best thing I ever did for learning how to cope with my dominant dog was take lessons from Steve at K9 Force, he has a website too and it worked!
  18. Sage looks such a beautiful golden oldie and will be so badly missed RIP Sag, fly free at Rainbow Bridge
  19. my mum feeds Eaglepack to her cavaliers, think the light chicken one. She has two cavaliers, one that would eat anything, the other a very fussy eater and both love it.
  20. A male golden retreiver desexed may be an ideal companion, mine gets along well with the cats now he knows what they are, not sure about birds but a puppy could be trained. He loves his walks but doesn't mind if he misses a day, he loves being outside or inside and is very gentle with children. As for a cavalier, I was going to suggest them as well but some have high bird prey, mine certainly did and my mum's cavaliers have just been visiting and went nuts over my cats. Mind you a puppy trained may be different. PPS's suggestion was great, go to a show, have a look around, talk to breeders and take it from there
  21. I've emailed for a form Uralla is less than an hour away from me, I have a couch potatoe who is actually of working dog extraction and he has shown to me he has good eye coz he is very good at rounding up the cats So he can have a go on the real thing

I am so sad to hear of your loss RIP Mahli, run free at Rainbow Bridge
  24. I'd worry about her being restricted in a pen outside, you may not realise that the sun could move around and be beating down on her during the day. I would still put the pen out there though, just leave the door open so she can get in and out and move to shade if she wants to. First up I wouldn't leave her for the whole time, if you go out on the weekends for a couple of hours I'd start her off then and then gradually increase the time. I'd have a radio that she can hear playing as well. And I don't think I would leave such a little pup yet outside, perhaps when she is about five months old then gradually. Please also check that pool fence thoroughly, that she can't dig under it? In Better Homes and Gardens last month's edition I think it was they showed steps that dogs could use in case they did fall in the pool.
  25. I was thinking along the same lines as Nekbet as well I'm also wondering if she may feel safer if put in a crate at night? with a warm blanket and some water, that may make her feel more settled and less inclined to bark. poor little sausage, I hope a solution is found
