  1. it's a pity that Blacktown pound didn't refer the gentleman to a rescue group, i'm sure that there are lots of dogs looking for homes that have been desexed and vacinated and microchipped that would have been suitable for the family and the price would have been about $400.00 for a dog that is "known" rather than "unknown quantity" at Blacktown pound. I fostered a couple of coolies from Blacktown Pound for a few days that had the worse kennel cough. And they were supposed to be desexed but weren't so the head rescuer had to pay the price to get them released of undesexed dogs pounds should desex all dogs before release. You would think that they would get the message that this would end up making less work for them in the future.
  2. sounds like something reacted to in the garden or something? did you take your dog somewhere different yesterday? I'd take the photos and your dog to your normal vet and seek advice what you can give if it happens again. Hope everything is okay now.
  3. we are about to get a plague here I fear but lucky I have a coolie here! Only hope the well fed spoilt brat likes locusts gorgeous photo Persephone!
  4. i've heard this about jack russells, but aren't they the most beautiful dogs! My dream is when I live on acres to have a wire coated (not sure this is the right expression) jack russell but adopt when about 8 years old so hopefully a bit quieter are all terriers as lively as jack russells? Esky did the dogs have an "off" button? or were just full on on the time?
  5. what are the characteristics and personalities of a terrier? What are they like to live with? now I know that is liking comparing bananas with apples and expecting all to be the same but just generally. it's just every time I say to a friend that I like a certain dog she always replies with "that's a terrier, don't get a terrier". I can't get a straight answer from her about why not to get a terrier. They are an extremely popular group so they must have good things going for them. And some of them are just so gorgeous looking, I saw at the show last weekend the most beautiful wire haired fox terrier, it was the most glorious looking dog - but I learnt later that they can take 12 hours to get their coats ready for showing thank you, looking forward to the replies
  6. awful awful awful thing to have to go through wishing you lots and lots of strength missypriss and lots of hugs as well.
  7. wish I was in SA too I'd love a touch up lesson with K9 with my guys and would gladly have put my hand up I also recall from when I did book lessons with him that K9 is very very upfront about conditions and terms part of his professionalism ;) hope you manage to find a buyer Cassie and anyone thinking about it go for it is my advice, you won't regret. PS: however if Zephry was thrown in permanently with the ticket I would fly to SA to do the lesson
  8. another recommendation for the coolie and Pandii summed them up perfectly they seem to fit in beautifully with different lifestyles as well contact Ruth as Pandii suggested, she also has a friend with a litter on the ground as well.
  9. I was lucky enough to do some transporting for Greyhounds4U in February. The girl I transported had been a blood donor for vets near my place. she was so beautiful, I fell in love with her, really sooky and sweet temperament. A greyhound is definitely on my want list. I had never met one before. I think that alot of the public need some education about greyhounds as well and what beautiful animals they are. Now my dad isn't the most animal loving person in the world (although he adores his two cavliers) and when he saw the greyhound instantly moved away from her and said they bite. I asked him how he came to that conclusion and he replied because they have to wear muzzles yet my sister who lives in a trendy suburb in Melbourne came racing in to see the greyhound and was most disappointed that she had left already, she says that there are lots of rescued greyhounds around her area and she adores them. Well done Trish for the publicity.
  10. I found my golden retreiver friends who sound like they were up to lots of shenigans as well on the friday night - something about running out of alcohol
  11. I have thought of so many breeds but I am thinking especially after talking to some of the judges at the Show that I will go for a breed that i know and that i know i will have two mentors in it. It's also a great motivation for me to get fit as i have to run around the ring. A golden retreiver Okay i'm not sure that i looked there Dotty - i looked everywhere else but didn't think to look there - lol

  16. i use Revolution monthly because it does fleas, worms and heartworm. We don't have a tick problem here This month though i'm changing Tilly over to Sentinal Spectrum - i worried that she rubs herself on her back after putting the spot on that it wouldnt' be that effective so i'll try the SS with her. it came with some free capstar.

    Bloodhound

you are welcome Centitout and now I have seen a bloodhound. certainly talking to Centitout briefly yesterday she stated that one thing that she did not tolerate was agression particularly in such a large breed. The pound ranger seemed a nice bloke. But I don't think that rangers in country pounds are there all the time, they have other duties, could be wrong. thinking back the kennels were a bit dark, if he had a few pens to do, he may have just hosed the pen out, fed Spanner and given him water then go on to do the same with the next pen rather than looking over him properly. I don't know. He seemed to like Spanner though and described him as a big pissing, pooping, eating machine in a kind sort of way. Maybe Spanner was okay at the pound because sadly felt safe there and didn't have much human contact. But he just can't cope with the real world. give Spanner a pat from me please Centitout, any decision made on him I know will be the right one.
  23. hope he finds his owner today OMD it's lovely that you are looking after him in the meantime, lucky dog knew where to go when he was lost

    Bloodhound

nope I don't think that the pound did tell Centitout about his condition. poor boy when I picked him up I could tell something wasn't right with his back legs how they were to my very unobserved eye it looked poor nutrition as a pup but I think Centitout thinks that is only one of the causes. I was hoping that the agression was only from going from the pound into my car then being moved from my car and he was very confused but it sounds a bit more serious than that he was a nice looking boy, or would be if he had a bit of a fair go in life.
