Thanks to Steve my Onslow knows that I am the leader of the pack, my Tilly is a very happy girl, I have added to the family, foster as well and we go and stay at my friends place who has masses of dogs and Onslow is great with all of them. He used to be very dominant and a bully but now he knows that he can't get away with that behaviour at all or he finds his mummy staring at him and he then just goes to water :D All techniques that Steve taught me how to deal with him there is a testimonial written by me on his website The best was about a month after the weekend we had with Steve the dogs had to go board but I didn't tell the kennels about the lessons I had. When I went to pick them up the kennel lady asked me what had I done to Onslow. She never said this to me before but apparently he was not a nice dog to board, they dreaded having him and he thought he could do anything he liked because he was the boss. But that time and since he was very respectful, did what he was told and listened to them, they loved having him.

I'm Curious.....about A Discussion Oh And I Were Having...
Ons replied to Bluefairy's topic in General Dog Discussion
don't forget also that because of the internet and this Forum amongst other things we are much more aware of dogs illnesses. Growing up we only really knew our dogs and the neighbourhood dogs and the relatives dogs. Now we know all the ins and outs of dogs world wide including all their illnesses so maybe dogs with allergies etc were always around, we just didn't know about them -

my current dogs don't get any more visits to the vets than the dogs we had growing up did - they are two registered golden retreivers and a pound puppy - coolie, growing up we had two registered shelties. But I am glad that I can feed them better food than the dogs growing up had. I agree with GayleK, robust dogs are always going to survive. -
I used to think that a behaviouralist was overkill until I consulted one as a last resort before considerig whether I had to rehome one of my dogs for her own wellbeing . Best .Thing.I. Ever.Did.

leaving aside the question of protecting our wildlife what is wrong with people letting their dogs just wander willy nilly wherever not to mention the dangers of being run over for the dogs themselves. Don't they care about them! My dogs escaped for 5 minutes last night when kids left the front door open and I was panicking about that, not only for their own safety (even though I live in a quietish area) but the nuisance they were causing for my neighbours by running through their front yards. and that's not even putting our native wildlife into the equation, wildlife that has the right to live a peaceful and quiet life with what little land they have left. Just makes me angry ;) Oh and my dogs normally aren't that bad if the front door is left open and normally do come back, it's just the foster dog thought the bid for freedom was wonderful and two of my dogs manners just went straight out the window (my coolie was a good boy and stayed home )

Did you chat to Leith or Ruth? I think it was Leith, Ruth is my other coolie mate so I could be confused. Coolies are awesome dogs, can't wait to own my second one, I just love my coolie boy so much, it's a pity that I didnt' know about agiility three years ago but when I start to train the pup I'll start doing stuff with him as well. He is a smart boy and will learn quicklly. Thank you so much everyone for all this information. I'm compiling a list, it's been so helpful if bits of it not confusing Im in for a steep learnign curve I think!

another one who agrees a dog run is the best and safest option, room for your poodle to move in but most of all be safe from any visiting kids especially if you lock it. Dogs get used to dog runs, mine did very quickly when they go and stay at my friends

the photos are stunning! Most of the whippets are muzzled. Can I ask why? It's not compulsory to muzzle them like greyhounds is it? I would imagine it's just because with the high excitement of racing and lots of dogs safer to do so?

My dogs have a tough life no beer fridges or air conditioning during the day for them Last summer they were outside but there is a garage for them to go into and a patio with shelter. I trust them alot more in the house now and with the cats so with the rainy weather I have been leaving the side door open so they can come in or out. This summer I will do the same.

I had a very dominant arrogant golden retriever 2 lessons from Steve at K9 Force, alot of hard work from me and him I now have a wonderful respectful boy So I am another big advocate to take her to Steve at K9 Force

beautiful, just stunning (your baby is cute too ) good luck in the show ring!

I'm sorry you had to rehome your dog as for snakes, good luck to people who think they can keep them out. I have no idea how one would, yes you can minimise risks but as for keeping them out totally :D another one to suggest a coolie ;) awesome dogs, so obedient and wanting to please. My coolie was about 2 years old before a cat came into our home and he and the cat are now best of friends I have added two other cats to my household, two he doesn't chase, one he does occassionally (yes I have posted a post tonight about thinking he scared her today) but a pup can be trained and coolies are so willing especially if they are not left unsupervised with the cat around.

would someone please be kind enough to make a new signature out of this? thank you so much! Once the pup arrives at my place I'll change it to include all my pets - thank you!

Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad
Ons replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
Moselle I'm so sorry to hear about Sophie. RIP Sophie, run free at Rainbow Bridge. My Tilly's mother (golden retreivers) was taken to the vet for her annual checkup, everything perfect, six weeks later was put to sleep because of cancer :D My Onslow's Dad (again a golden retriever) died of cancer. It's a horrible disease hitting our beloved. -
I asked a similar question in an agility thread and was referred to the Volhard method, and found this webpage http://www.volhard.com/pages/pat.php that may help go with the breeder's instinct as well

I hate seeing that ;) I always feel like going up and yelling at the owners that the pup is far too young to be out and put it on a leash! I could take my Flash (a coolie) for his walk everyday without a leash on at all, he would not leave my side or be no further than a metre in front of me, even if there are other dogs around. But I don't because it's against the law and whilst I trust him 99.9% to stay with me I'm not going to take that .1% risk on my boy.

My Onslow, a golden retreiver, would be a perfect candidate. Sometimes I feel if he got more relaxed he would be in a coma ;) and he is like that whether we are at home or out and about. Sadly we live too far away, he could go for a holiday to his Aunty Lou who does live in Melbourne but I think he would miss his mummy too much Good luck with all the research!

what a sad situation and I didn't know that pugs shedded that much apart from allergy testing could you board Ollie for a couple of weeks because that may determine whether Ollie is the problem or not. all the very best for the decision you have to make

a loving tribute for a loving dog RIP Archie, run free at Rainbow Bridge

Emmy definitely plays a huge part in Charlie's recovery. We took her to the specialist with us yesterday and the specialist saw first hand how much Emmy helps. Emmy was playing with a toy and decided she wanted Charlie to play too, so she walks over and invites him to play (her invites means whack him across the head with the toy)... while the humans were talking about Charlie's diet, the dogs were playing bitey face with each other or tug. We had to speak louder in the room over the growls and danced around the dogs while they pulled each other up and down the room The specialist fell in love with Emmy. Ask if we can bring her to Charlie's next visit :D this made me laugh I'm so glad that everything is going so well for Charlie :p
