  1. kelpie australian terrier australian cattledog and one more although not registrable - coolie
  2. another one who suggests a roofed in, concrete floored dog run, if he isn't escaping when his family is home.
  3. Maggie my foster kelpie was desexed a couple of weeks ago. No overnight stay for her, no antibiotics, in fact I dropped her off at 8.30 am and picked her up at 2.30 pm, probably normally earlier than a vet would like but the vet knows me well and knows that I would know if anything was amiss. Just keep your girl quiet for a few days (or try to) and she should be well recovered. I think you did the sensible thing too.
  4. Tilly's breeder would be a bit two face if she refused to sell to someone who worked full time as she worked full time herself. Onslow's breeder was a full time mature aged student. I have a great relationship with Tilly's breeder thanks to Facebook I've lost contact with Onsy's breeder but that's not due to any fault, just life, and if I needed to contact her Tilly's breeder knows where to find her. I am a great believer in a dog having company of another dog/s though whether a person works or not but that's just my view. And good point about being comfortable with your breeder. It's funny but before I got Tilly I was looking for a chocolate labrador and the couple of breeders I contacted I just didn't seem to get a rapport with even though it was by email. Yet Tilly's breeder everything done by a phone call and then email and a rapport was built.
  5. not illegal as far as I'm aware but a bit of consideration is needed I don't let my Flash (he is the only one who lifts his leg) pee on anything he likes, no trees except for the fully grown ones at the vacant block of land and no cars except for the Telstra truck, I always let him pee on that
  6. on a golden retreiver forum I am on a lady has two golden retreivers living in an apartment, no back yard at all but I think she has a balcony. My sister has a border collie and a tiny townhouse courtyard both these peope take their dogs for long walks, my sister to her horse each day and the other lady to the dog park each day. I think if you are going to make a conscious effort every day to exercise the dog no matter the weather that a dog living in an apartment would have a far better life than a dog stuck in the backyard all day with no attention. Then on the other hand I know that my guys who live inside and outside would miss being able to wander outside at will, lie in the sun, have a zoom around and then go back to sitting on the couch.

what a beautiful girl resting peacefully now, not in pain, away from her demons, running free at Rainbow Bridge and she passed on knowing she was loved, any dog could not ask for any more than you did for her Koemi Hugs to you Koemi
  9. she was a pretty girl RIP Rinse I'm so sorry for your loss
  10. and if you do decide to get a cavalier - and they are absolutely awesome dogs - some of them surprisingly do have high prey drive so make the guinea pig enclosure a fortress. My little Poppy Cavalier RIP was the sleepiest quietest dog until she saw a bird in a cage or thought that there was a mouse in the house even embarrassed me thoroughly at a friend's place trying to find one and yes there was one (we were living in the country not unclean houses!) I think the dog you do get is going to be very lucky!
  11. Wow, he is gorgeous! I've mostly only ever seen black & tan huntaways, never anything as exotic as a merle, so I'm guessing the merle must have come from the koolie parent? But of course it's not a registered breed, so no one who breeds them would care if they were pink so long as they worked really well. :D I love huntaways, they're fantastic working dogs. I would say the coolie x would be a blue merle tri. My boy is a blue merle tri - he has a blue merle body with ginger legs . My new girl is a red merle tri. Just because the coolie isn't registered doesn't mean that people don't care what they look like, they are becoming popular outside working homes and in the right home are awesome dogs. and people are working on trying to get them registered just takes a while
  12. what about a coolie? have look in the thread in general discussion about them but if you get a pup from a good breeder you will have a perfect pet (with bit of training of course like all dogs). GP's would need to be secure but coolies are bright enough to know that you would be very displeased if they were harmed. Also Australian Working Dog Rescue main base is in Cairns, have a look on there website to see if anything takes your fancy. www.awdri.com.au
  13. could your mum's cavvy come and stay for a little bit, it may give Tara some comfort another canine. All I can suggest is that you are around as much as possible for her I wish I had a solution but I don't and have vowed myself to always have 3 dogs
  14. he looks mischief but absolutely adorable
  15. ;) :D what a wonderful tribute to a beautiful boy RIP Sam Hugs to you Tara and Sam
  16. mmm wouldn't you know that two months ago before you got the dogs. I wonder what their history is, maybe they were doing someone a favour by taking them and found them to be too much. Poor poor doggies, I hope they find a wonderful loving home.
  17. try and take some comfort in this. I am very very sorry for your loss :D Hugs to you and Sarge RIP Millie, run free at Rainbow Bridge
  18. I'm taking my golden retreiver Onslow with me over to the Coast for Christmas. We will be away about 5 days. I've realised that his monthly preventative medication doesn't include ticks so what's the best thing for those few days? We live where there are no paralytic ticks. He is a large golden retriever. I doubt, much to his disappointment that he will be swimming whilst he is away. Thank you
  19. poor little fellow I didn't go today, too much rain around although it hasn't rained at all yet. If it clears up a bit i'll go up tomorrow
  20. I think all dogs react differently Maggie the foster kelpie was desexed yesterday. She was groggy and sleepy yesterday afternoon. Today she is back to her normal self, I was hoping for at least another day of quiet - but nope ;) Hope Hoover is feeling better today
  21. My understanding is that the first mating between the corgi and the daschund was accidental but the Royal Family liked the combination so had more litters ;)
  22. if it's this wet tomorrow I won't be coming up. I'm surprised that I actually got home from Gunnedah today as we have had so much rain - at least I had the dogs with me but my poor puddy tats were home alone I'll see what tomorrow is doing! Stay dry everyone!
  23. your dad really needs to see a doctor. I honestly wouldn't send Abbi to see a behaviouralist, she is 10 not in good health and it is something that can be easily managed as you seem to have done yourself with you and your husband, put Abbi safely away when machinery is around. Your Dad just needs to come on board too and know not to start the machinery unless Abbi and all dogs are away so there can be no further barging out doors.
  24. crate, crate, crate a godsend when it comes to pups go into the training area here and read, read, read - there are specific threads on what puppies need make your breeder your new best friend, she will be able to help you with diet and any questions that you have run, not walk, into the spitz thread and ask if there are any health checks on spitzs that you should find out about before you accept the pup - I know many breeds the parents are tested for,, but have no idea about spitzes. And most of all, take a deep breath and enjoy your puppy! I am about to get a new puppy myself and haven't had one for four years and am also thinking
