  1. i think a female golden retriever would be ideal
  2. your third loss I'm very sorry, hugs to you Persephone happy quacking at Rainbow Bridge little Bill
  3. I read the first post and thought maybe my 10 week old pup is behind the 8 ball but then read the other posts and I think I'm doing everything right I'm making everything a game for Latte, she is settling in, getting to learn the ropes here and the other dogs. She is also learning toilet training, how to sit, fetch, her name and how to come. Now I will begin to teach her how to walk on the lead and down. Although she can't be shown because she is a coolie she was lucky enough to be asked to come to show classes so she can do some socialisation with other dogs and had her first class tonight. That to me is alot for a little pup to digest. I want at this stage learning to be fun and not a chore. take you time, teach little at a time frequently with lots of rewards
  4. I was wondering how she was going. Good to hear on the mend and I hope by now totally on the mend! It's a worry when our beloved pets are ill
  5. in a pen when you are out in the fully fenced houseyard when you are home only way to contain him, you will have some difficulties now because he has learnt its "fun" to wander
  6. sad week indeed RIP Molly Run free at Rainbow Bridge
  7. are you sure that he isn't doing this to get to you rather than wanting to be inside? What does he do when you are not at home? Can you spy at him from a neighbour's house and see?
  8. good post Bundy's Mum This is where problems occur in a pack when the dog things that he/she has the upperhand and you give in to them all the time. Trust me, I know this all too well firsthand with my Onslow who tested me and I gave in. Now he knows I'm boss and we all live fairly harmoniously.
  9. I have the same with my two golden retreivers Onslow who is now six is so laid back and has always been Tilly is still bouncy and on the go although at nearly 5 she has slowed down a little bit I got a third dog, Flashy, but only because he was a foster dog that fitted in so well and Tilly loved him and played with him and i had the means to have a third dog (and now a fourth ) With Bitty encourage her to play on her own. I had a fantastic foster dog early last year that would just happily spend his day grabbing a toy then doing zoomies in the backyard by himself, I guess he had no one ever to play with so he learnt to entertain himself. I guess the way to do that is to do some playtime with Bitty but at other times ignore her.
  10. I'd like to be involved two owner of two golden retreivers and two coolies the two golden retreivers and one coolie are just much loved albeit lazy dogs the second coolie is the one that's going to be the high achieving one in the family (she is only 9 weeks old at the moment )
  11. that sounds great about the townhouse I'm a big fan of a cavalier, kid friendly, does what the famiy is doing but quite happy to be sleeping as well. My parents cavalier, Kyra, at 13 still goes on big walks with tail wagging the whole way but then sleeps most of the other time. Also have a look at a tibetan spaniel, my friend's daughter has just got one to show and it seems to fit in with the family very well.
  12. I'm so sorry CL RIP beautiful BElla, run free at Rainbow Bridge.
  13. It sounds like everything is being done that is possible for her physical ailments I'm thinking it sounds like a bit of stress together with hot weather if she was my dog I would keep her home in air conditioning rather than taking her out to the vets which could stress her more and mean she is out in the heat unless something changes I know that I do tend to have a bit of a wait and see attitude with my dogs but am lucky enough to have a vet that will answer my calls at anytime. If she isnt' better in 24 hours or things go dramatically downhill that's when i would think about going back. PS: I think also the diaroreah (sp?) is just her getting rid of the sedatives in her system.
  14. I was thinking about this my lovely vet only charged one consult fee plus the price of 3 x kennel cough vacinations for my 3 when I last took them in You guys talk about having coffee with your vet mine has just spent three days at my family's beach house with me and my family she might drop that consult fee next year :D but I actually don't expect her too. She kind of hinted about a few days away over the chrissy break and I invited her. She was a lovely guest but was definitely on holidays, Onsy had a bit of a tummy bug but she wasn't interested
  15. do tibetan spaniels have hare feet? that was a question from ages ago
  16. didn't Joanna Lumley own an afgan or am I imaging it?
  17. You're speaking jibberish Poodlefan come back and save me from looking like a raving lunatic! That is so badass.... stopping to show his dog for the other question, I'm guessing some sort of german dog maybe shnauzers but aren't poodles french, who knows what breeds Poodlefan has (apart from I"m guessing poodles )
  18. not even trying gosh this thread is great isn't it! We are all learning so much about every one's elses breeds!
  19. I've sneaked on at work whoops Well done Ruralpug! And how interesting about your family connection to coolies. that was interesting about border collies as well. The border collies I see around my country town look nothing like the border collies you see in the show ring. Having said that, there was a lady from Inverell at Gunnedah Show who had border collies and she said she used her collies for working sheep as well as for showing, just lovely to see. They were stunning dogs. Australian cattle dogs, from memory, are born white too but I could be wrong. eta Sorry poodlemum I missed your post about the ACD born white, I'm now nearly 100% sure they are. also isn't that why Cruella De Ville didn't want the dalmation puppies because they were born white and she wanted fur with black spots
  20. Ireally must go to bed and doubt I will be on line until late tomorrow night so if you want to answer my question I will check tomorrow someone will have to post the next question though
  21. really I thought they were bred in Scotland? Off to do some googling I need to go to bed, can you answer my question
  22. if you think about it there are quite a lot of australian breeds developed here and all are really awesome dogs
  23. oh I'm sorry of course, just know more about working dogs I guess Tenterfield terriers I met a lady who lived in Tenterfield about 14 years ago who was working hard to get the breed going umm a question (actually two) which was developed first, the c/koolie or the kelpie and what was the name of the first dog to be considered a kelpie?
